OK, people!  Let's get cracking on re-creating two years worth of pissing, moaning, insulting people, jumping to conclusions, and every other insanity we've written over the past two years!

Our host had a major server crash.  I don't know what can be retrieved and what can't.

I think there should be a full scale investigation into this. After all the controversy in this morning's "Yay Me! for 10,000 posts" thread from Tommy, I think its a little too convenient that the host crashed. I think Brian Fein should be investigated ;)

I think Tommy is down to the low 3,000's again. I'm down to 4,000-something.

2008 has been a great year!!!

There are a lot of users that cannot log in right now.  I'm not going to do anything until I know the full extent of the crash and what can be retrieved.  Everyone just sit tight for a bit.

I honestly can say I don't think I've ever used the abbreviation "LOL" , and when most people use it, I doubt they are really "laughing out loud".

But after reading this, I must type "LOL" and I actually mean it!!

Wow that's great, thanks for helping to prove that in the past 2 years, I posted some 4000 posts and Tommy nearly doubled it.

In seriousness, the guys (Fau and company) are working feverishly to restore their customers, and we'll hopefully be a part of that.  Keep in mind anything posted today will be overwritten if a more recent backup comes to light.

Dave, do you think it might be appropriate to try to find a "current" (2008, not 2006) memberlist and send a mass email?  Is it even possible?

Dave said he has all of the site's files backed up on his computer, but the databases are the big thing.

I would gladly email all members, but the list is saved on the server.  I have a feeling that this is all we're going to get.  I am holding out a slim hope that Fau has a backup somewhere, but I'm not counting on it.

I'll also have to put back any new settings and spam-reduction that I'd had.  We haven't had a fake member trying to sell some product in a long, long time.

STL is gone too, and Defense5499, BoSoxGrl, and Brians Stalker and a crapload of other people.  It sucks.

I have a confession to make...this is all my fault. I had gotten really tired of Hoodie's inflammatory posts, and was wondering how I was going to deal with him. While watching the sci-fi movie "A Sound of Thunder" on TV last night, the idea hit me. If I could go back in time a couple of years and step on a prehistoric butterfly or some shit like that, I could totally erase Hoodie from existence.

Apparently I miscalculated the overall effect the time ripples would have. I also wonder why I now have these gills on the sides of my neck...

Maine, i will also make a few predictions. i predict the pats will go 16-0 in the regular season only to be upset in the superbowl, i know it sounds crazy, Brady losing in the superbowl, but i have a gut feeling.

I have the strangest feeling that the Dolphins are going to hire a succession of sucky coaches culminating in a 1-15 season.

This is going to work out great for me.  Despite being one of the original members of the site (Jan 22, 2003), I am only now reaching the 2000th milestone.  I was sweating over putting together a memorable post .....and now I don't have to think about for another 500+ posts.  While I'm sure Tommy could knock those 500 out in a week or two, it's likely to take me a year or more.  Hurray for technology.

There is one other small side effect of the Server Wars... All my private messages are gone. I kept "more than a few" PMs that contained things like member phone numbers, personal email addys, that sort of thing. Now I am going to need to recreate my PM contact list again.

I hear ya, Stroke - I had 860-some-odd PM's saved up there and now they're all gone.  I feel liberated, in a way, but nothing there I can't recreate, I don't think.

Are you going to tell me that Rick STILL hasn't implemented a RAID system on his webservers?  This is like the 4th or 5th time he has had a server crash.  When will he learn to invest in his infrastructure?
