I'm back.....

So I've been reading a lot of SI.com at work now that I'm back home.  I'm bored with the whole fucking thing.  I'll touch on Josh McCown later although if nothing else it's a decent signing.

Dear Bill Parcells,

Since we can't trade down which would have been nice given the whole fuckin team except Jason Taylor sucks, and whereas thou hath signed a bunch of serviceable blocking dummies to fill in some of the gaps until next year, I'd like to advocate us drafting Chris Long with the number 1 pick.  The more I see on the draft highlights and the more I read about this kid, the better feeling I get that he could well be the second coming of Jason Taylor.  He will fit in well with the "not 3-4" defense that's really a 3-4 defense that we'll be running.

Its not the #1 Pick I'm concerned about. I think Parcells and Company will pick a winner. Its that # 1 money that sucks. That's why the suckie teams stay suckie and the good ones stay competitive..........They manage the Cap way better picking value at a much more friendly Cap Number.  I'd like to trade that #1 for several Other draft picks because For the price of say 1 signed 1st overall pick of the draft you can have three or 4 signed #2's and 3's. If you draft well at those Numbers your team will be WAY better off and much quicker. And even if you miss on 1 or 2 its way better then having all your eggs in one basket.  ;)

Even if the Phins don't get the best trade they really should consider it. We need that Cap room to improve every year.

It's not that I disagree with you about the "#1 money sucks", but if you can manage to get a star player, the money is actually quite well spent.

In the end, I think sucky teams stay sucky for reasons other than being "stuck" with the #1 pick.

If you look at recent #1s, the Bungals did quite well after grabbing Palmer at #1. From the worst team in football in 2002, they went 8-8 in 2003 (in a very weak division), 8-8 in 2004 (in a much stronger division), 11-5 in 2005 (and then it went downhill again, but the team is still in good shape). And this from a franchise that has historically been quite adept at sucking.

The Chargers in 2004 have done quite well as well, although I guess you really should count that #1 as the Giants, since they're the ones who had to foot the bill (and got the player). In any event, that's one heck of a team today. One won the Super Bowl, the other has been (and is) among the favorites to win ever since.

The Texans, who picked Mario Williams (over Reggie Bush) in 2006, are also a team on the rise. From the worst team in football in 2005, they went 8-8 in 2006 and again in 2007. Whether or not they make something of it, they are clearly a decent team - and, let's admit it, they're not exactly stuck in the easiest division in the league... (I would argue it's the strongest).

That pretty much leaves the 49ers of the most recent teams (rookie contracts are typically on the order of 5 years, so the "damage" should be the most significant over that period, probably even less), since it's too early to tell what the Raiders will do.

Suffice to say, I don't think you can blame the JaMarcus Russell pick on the Raiders sucking, if they indeed continue to do so. And even though Alex Smith doesn't seem like much of a #1 pick, that's hardly to blame for the 49ers consistently being stuck in the mud. At least, it's not nearly the only reason...

Anyone else on this site think Vernon Gholston has more upside than Chris Long? I haven't heard any talk of Vernon going to the Dolphins, but he seems like a monster with inhuman levels of raw talent and athleticism.

I dont know, i would rather take chris over vernon... did you even see the results at the combine??? chris is a beast!

I would take Chris Long at #1, but ultimately, I want a trade-down. 

I know many disagree with me but I will stick with drafting Matt Ryan.

Here's the problem we have.

We have a #1 pick no one seems to be intrested (from what I've read) in dealing.

Most teams from what I hear will not take a defensive tackle #1 overall.  Aparently what it would cost you to sign the guy is way overpriced for what even the best defensive tackles in the game make.  We took Darryl Gardner at #20 in the first round.

I think that's why Parcells went out and got Jason Ferguson because he doesn't want to spend the kind of money for a DT a #1 overall would demand.  Plus he may think he can find one on the bench or in a later round.

You don't sign Josh McCown and then draft Matt Ryan, and they wouldn't have spent that money on a guard from SF (Rex Hadnot is ok but he's not exactly John Hannah) if he was going to take Jake Long OT (although I could see them trading down and still getting Jake Long)

I see the Rams taking either Jake or Chris Long, so I wouldn't be so sure about availability if we trade down.  I see the Dolphins taking one of these guys and the Rams taking the other if no draft position trades are made.

I think that's the most likely scenario STL.

I left the door open because I can't really predict all the variables.

  I think that evrybody wants a trade down.  However, if we have to stay at number one, Chris Long is the only pick that's worth $35 million in guaranteed money.

Yes Miami does have an issue with the QB position, this a position Miami has never addressed since Marino left, and don't through Beck crap in there, he is not our future, neither is McCown. Let Parcells do his job and finally give Miami a Francise quarterback.

I see alot of people having Matt Ryan falling like a rock in some mock drafts...something is scaring him away...I mean even Atlanta Resigned Joey Harrington (so they now have Chris Redmon,and D.J. Shockley also) Kind of gives me the impression,EVEN they aren't impressed with Ryan...

I'm fairly certain they will not draft him, so I figured I was safe.  In addtion, I couldn't say I would shit my pants or Tommy would never let it go.  ;D

You wont renounce ya fanhood.  Even if we do so Draft Ryan, he wont be starting for the next 2 seasons. Also, I highly doubt Miami will draft Ryan.  Dont belive Me kiper and is B.S.  ;D

I only would never let it go if you said it and the Dolphins actually took him, which I doubt they will do. 


If the Dolphins take Matt Ryan, I will spend the entire season ranting how Bill Parcells is a football coach masquerading as a front office guy, and should get his walking papers at the end of the season!!!!

I think Gholston is a bit more of an athlete than Chris Long, and a little less human than everyone else.  After seeing his combine and pro-day numbers coupled with his collegiate career, I'd be fine with taking him in this draft.  I look at it this way, if we take him #1, he may not command as much of a signing bonus as a Matt Ryan or various other over-hyped picks because he has just come on strong over the last 6 weeks (Think Mario Williams).

Just look at his numbers, he ended up running a 4.58, throwin' up 37 reps, and finished with a 42'' vertical!!  This guys weighs 270 lbs, that's nasty.

Vernon is doing a Mario Williams this year. Watching his film, MUC is dead-on...Gholston is a mutant beast.

I was asked earlier today if I would trade down from #1 to #3 to get Atlanta's disgruntled DB, DeAngelo Hall. I immediately said yes, because it would give us a pro bowl caliber DB in Hall, plus either Jake Long or Vernon Gholston at the 3 slot.

  ^^^  I agree with you guys that Vernon Gholston is an absolute beast.  He will be a dominant defensive player in the NFL for a very long time.  If we could trade down with Atlanta for the #3 pick and other draft picks, we should do the deal.  No way in hell should Miami consider DeAngelo Hall in a trade with Atlanta.  He will want Samuel money ( if not more) in his new contract, and is a locker room cancer.  He is a good CB, but his terrible attitude and stupid penalties outweigh his CB ability IMO.  Parcells said he does not want troublemakers on Miami, hopefully he sees Hall for what he is.

A couple of thoughts on that...

* I think the buzzphrase "locker room cancer" is misused and overplayed. I see DeAngelo raising a little hell on the field, but have never heard anyone in Atlanta refer to him as a lockerroom cancer.

* The penalties situation is way overblown. It was the one game against Carolina that he lost his cool against Steve Smith and committed three stupid penalties. The rest of his games...no more of a penalty concern than any other DB in this "don't touch the receiver" league. Bottom line on his play...he's a pro bowl corner.

You guys may want to see the negatives, but I'd welcome DeAngelo Hall to Miami with open arms...

I wouldn't mind seeing him in the aqua and orange.  He is not happy where he is, so a change of scenery would probably help him, also.  He would be a huge upgrade to our secondary.

Agreed.  I think miami will have to do a trade for him . I dont think the Falcons will release him on his wish.
