Title: The return game
Post by: dolphins4life on March 11, 2008, 12:54:14 am
We discussed this on the radio show Saturday Night.  Somebody mentioned something about how if Ginn keeps returning kicks at the rate he is going, he could get injured.

I think it's far too early in his career to worry about that.  He's got the speed now.  As he gets older, he may lose a step or two.  We might as well take advantage of his abilities while we have them.

Or, we could use him solely for punts, the way the Patriots did with Welker.  Ginn had a really good punt return average last year. and it would have been even better if 2 returns early in the year had not been called back.

It seems foolish to not use his speed in the return game in some way.

We do need better blockers on both returning units.  Something we can address during the second wave of free agency.

I don't think you can live in fear of your guys getting hurt.  Besides, Ginn isn't exactly lighting it up on offense.  He's decent, but it's not like he's a game-changing player.   The reason we drafted him is for the differences he makes when returning the ball.  I say that we use him 'till his legs fall off.

Better to have 100% of a guy for 5 years, than to have 75% of a guy for 8.
