Title: Miami Dolphins Draft Database
Post by: hordman on March 25, 2008, 09:05:15 am
anyone check this out:

Miami Dolphins Draft Database
http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/football/pro/dolphins/ (http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/football/pro/dolphins/)

I find it most interesting, that since the year 2000 draft, we've only picked up 2 QBs!....Josh Heupel (all 5'7" of him) and John Beck....wow

now I know we picked up journey men for all those yrs at QB, but what is most disconcerting is that we never took the time to develop a long-term QB, to get him in a system and work with someone for the long haul.

I think the most glaring problem for this organization for the lat 8-10 yrs is there has been no ability to draft and produce good, solid players thru the draft.

while, I'm no big dave wannstadt fan, I think coaching for all those yrs has been decent (not great) but they haven't really drafted players well and that all starts with dir. of player personnel and input from the coaches and research on players.

you can have a great football system (ie ne patriots), but if you have chicken shit for players and a great chef, he's still going to make chicken shit out of what he has and not some gourmet meal.

I think rick spielman set us back many, many yrs.

Hopefully this draft will be the one where they finally answer the QB issue.

if rick set up back many many years, Then Wanny set us back a century.

If Wanny set you all back, then JJ certainly set it up. He was brought in as the Assistant Head Coach after Wayne-Dead Hyuzenga coaxed him up out of the the Keyes

I was just about to post this.

Check out the QB drafts. Miami Is pathetic at paying and drafting top QBs take away Bob Griese and you get a hodge podge of busts and never will be anything QBs.

John Beck tops the list.

And I don't understand all this Man love for Dan Marino. All his records have been broken and he has as many superbowl victories as me.

This post has inspired to create a Dan Marino UTUBE video exposing the real Marino!

Dan Marino was a leader and a great one at that.

You want to know why Marino doesn't have any superbowls, go look at the ring of dishonor and look at Tom Olivadotti, he was one the main reasons why Dan marino didn't have a ring.

I bet you're also a multi-millionaire who doesn't live in his parent's basement like Marino.

First off, I totally disagree!!!  But what this sounds like is someone who only watched Marino past his prime.  If all you have to go on is the later years of the Marino era, then I can understand why you may feel this way.  Keep in mind that you would still be wrong!!!

I have been saying for years that Speilman may be the only GM that is worse than Matt Millen.

Here are a couple of recent draft moves that have made me sick, and what I hoped they would go for:

2001- We pass on Drew Brees (the 1st time) and draft Jamar Fletcher, even though we have Sam Madison and Pat Surtain in their prime and locked up for a few more years.

2006- We take Jason Allen over Antonio Cromartie.  This isn't something I have thought about since Cromartie's sick 2007 season.  I always thought he was a CB version of Shawn Taylor since their UM and FSU days.  The way Taylor and Cromartie took over games from the defensive backfield was Ed Reed-esque but with more size.

By no means am I defending Spielman- but he didn't make those moves. Spielman only had final say in the draft for one year (the year we got Carey). Wannstedt is the one who passed on Brees, and Saban is the one who took Allen.

You're supposed to follow "we never took the time to develop a long-term QB" with "we should get rid of our current young QB and start over!"

He already played in four games.  Don't we already know everything we need to know about him?  ::)

For all the grief he's taken, Jason Allen played fairly well towards the end of last season. He has a chance to ultimately become a decent and valued player for the dolphins. Not a certainty by any means. This season should tell us whether the pick of Jason Allen was a complete waste or not.

But I agree, Saban should never have picked him in the first place, but too late to cry over spilled milk.

And passing twice on Drew Brees makes me sick. I don't  think they'll be a third chance.

First off.  Can you imagine the whining had Miami drafted a player who made one start in his entire college career & that one being almost two years prior to be drafted & on top of that coming off a torn ACL?

Sorry, while AC had a great '07, but lets see how things play out.  Ints are a funny thing.  Anthony Henry had 10 his rookie year & it took him 4 years to get his next ten.

At draft time Allen was the better pick & for the sake of Miami lets hope he turns out to be at least arguably the better pick.

rivals.com still has Miami drafting Matt Ryan. I hope this comes true and look forward to Miami addressing an issue they have ignored for a very long time.

When did not drafting a position IN THE FIRST ROUND become synonymous with ignoring that position?

Miami has NEVER drafted a center, TD, kicker or punter in the first round so I guess we're going into our 4th decade of ignoring those positions.
