Title: NFL Retrospective - Eric Turner
Post by: ethurst2 on March 29, 2008, 04:10:47 pm
There aren't that many safeties that you can put into the category of Ronnie Lott, Kenny Easley, Larry Wilson , Paul Krause and Jake Scott.

But the late Eric Turner belongs with them.

Turner was a safety for the Cleveland Browns in the early to mid 90's and what a safety he was. He had unbelievable range, make up speed and was a great hitter. He was the perfect strong safety that didn't need help in coverage. Out of all the safeties I ever saw and even with his contemporaries (Steve Atwater) he was the best all around safety during his period which was very short.

Unfortunately, cancer claimed the life of Eric Turner too early. He would have been a sure fire Hall Of Famer.

He was taken from us far too soon.

Such a tragedy

tragic story about him & the cancer.
But objectively speaking, he doesn't belong in the HOF.
He had one great season in 94 & 1 or 2 Pro Bowls then was just avg after that.
Hard hitter, but we've seen plenty of those.
Very good player, but on the outside looking in
