Title: Brett Farve rethinking retirement
Post by: simeon on April 03, 2008, 09:20:36 pm
Have you ever heard of the old saying, like a bad penny that won't go away.
This just in from yahoo sports.

BRETT FARVE RETHINKING RETIREMENT

LOS ANGELES (TICKER) —Brett Favre could be having second thoughts about retirement.

According to a Los Angeles Times report, the former Green Bay Packers quarterback, who announced his retirement last month, is contemplating a comeback with another team.

Citing NFL sources, the Times reported Thursday that Favre has been quietly talking with teams about their interest in trading for the three-time NFL Most Valuable Player.

On March 4, Favre, who played with the Packers for 16 seasons, announced his retirement during an emotional press conference at Lambeau Field.

However, Favre, 38, has yet to give written notice of his retirement to the league or players’ union.

Favre’s agent, James “Bus” Cook, told the Times he was not aware of his client’s possible interest in resuming his career.

“That’s news to me,” Cook said. “I don’t think it has anything to do with anything. He’s retired, period, point blank.”

During his press conference, Favre denied he retired because the Packers did not make a more aggressive attempt to sign wide receiver Randy Moss.

However, Favre’s decision came one day after the New England Patriots re-signed Moss to a three-year contract worth $27 million.

If you're Bill Parcells and you had the chance to get Brett Favre in a Dolphins uniform for the right price, would you?   I most certainly would. He proved last year he can still play with the best. Let Josh McCown and John Beck battle for the #2 spot, while Beck gets another year's grooming behind a future Hall of Famer.

I don't believe this one. Why would Brett Farve come back, only to leave Green Bay? First off, it would betray a bunch of Farve fans. Second, the Packers were a team who got to the NFC Championship, and are young. They'll be better this year. If Farve comes back, I don't think he would be back as anything but a Packer. This would make no sense if it happened.

NO MORE OVER AGED QB'S IN MIAMI!!!!!!
It would call for a trade, and because of his age it just isn't worth it.
BRETT STAY RETIRED!!!!!!!

This rumor has already been shot down. Both by his agent and people close to him.

Heck, even his #1 fan, Peter King, has reported that this is completely bogus.

But, by all means, let's get all worked up because some shitfaced reporter pulled a story out his ass instead of doing some real research.

He might SAY this is completely bogus, but the fact remains that he has not filed retirement papers with the league.

I thought his number one fan was Jtex?  ;)

Actually, I thought it was John Madden.

I don't want Favre in Miami.  Period, point blank.

Seriously, Tommy?  You'd bring his old ass in here to play on this shitty team?  Why?  So he can retire in a year and start over again?

Now if Favre stayed and Brady retired, then Jtex's head might be the lead role in Scanners sequel.

Of course.  He might do post retirement stuff.  Maybe he'll go on network telivision and call games.  Maybe he'll become a coach.  Maybe he'll get on the lecture circuit.  His agent negotiates all that.

I definitely hope this was just rumor and not true, but I wouldn't put it beyond Farve to come back if theres records for him to break. Farve isn't fulling me with the I just want win attitude, he has been in this for the records for a very long time.

Why wouldn't he just go back to Green Bay then?

Like I said I hope this is a false rumor the only thing that would motivate him is to break a record, not to win a championship as those days are way behind him.
Brett has wanted out of Greenbay for awhile now.

Brett has wanted out of Greenbay for awhile now.

Can you elaborate? Is it the weather? The management? I thought he was Green and Yellow at heart..........

Last year he demanded a trade after Greenbay did not persue Randy Moss.
I find it odd he announced his retirement when Greenbay did not persue Moss and the Patricheats signed him again. This man has been playing the media for years.

Two things I expected to happen and only one has...

Tommy saying he would bring him to Miami and a JTEX rant.

i heard a guy on fox sports bring up the fact that filing one's retirement papers is only about starting to receive one's pension and brett doesn't need the money yet.eddie george didn't file his for a long time, in fact,i'm not even sure he ever has.
favre is way over the hill and the only team that would be interested is the packers.and the way he fudged every year and basically held them at bay whether he was or wasn't coming back,i can't see them really wanting him back.they are a good young team and need to move forward with aaron rodgers at the helm.

If Packer's backup Air-on Rogers would have retained the starting QB position last year, I thought the Packers would've done even better than they had. Favre would just as well be a great vet backup player/coach to McCown, IF the Fins went with the WCO. Butt hel, neither situation is one of reality. With all the changes in Finfanland, you can only look forward to new things to come

It appears Brett Farve keeps changing his mind, I guess he loves playing the media and football fans.
This is from Yahoo Sports

If the Green Bay Packers are ravaged by injuries this season, Brett Favre might consider returning should the team reach out to him.

“It would be hard to pass up, I guess,” he told the Biloxi (Miss.) Sun Herald. “But three months from now, say that presents itself, I may say, you know what, I’m so glad I made that decision. I’m feel very comfortable in what I’m doing and my decision.

“Yeah, I can probably be up there doing that and playing, but again, I don’t know. It’s only speculating. I think the world of that team. I had a lot of fun, not only this year, but over my career.”

But if Aaron Rodgers went down with an injury?

“Aaron has fallen into a great situation,” Favre said. “And if that opportunity presented itself and they did call, it would be tempting. And I very well could be enticed do it.”

Favre understands the kind of challenge he would face should he opt to go back to the NFL after ending his record-setting 17-year career. And he made it clear he is not changing his mind at this time.

“But to think that if they called me in October and told me, ‘Hey, we need you this week.’ That would be hard,” Favre said in a story that appeared on the paper’s Web site on Tuesday. “I’m sure mentally, I would be refreshed. I’d be away from it for a long time. But mentally versus physically, the last thing I’d want to do is go up and it’s ‘Oh this is great’ and all that stuff and me be excited and then just flop.

“You just can’t show up and play.”

There has been a steady flow of speculation that Favre would have a change of heart in the wake of the March 4 announcement the league’s only three-time MVP was retiring.

“I guess the best response would be, right now no,” he said of a possible return to the game.

Favre added he would not return unless he was in shape.

“It would be hard to go up there at 38. It was hard to stay in shape. I say that, I worked out and I worked out hard,” he said. “Week in and week out, I was just drained. Finally, for the first time, I felt, not that 38 is old, but I looked around at practice and these guys are bouncing around. And I practiced every day and all the time people would ask me … `How do you do it? Inside I’m saying, ‘I have no idea.’ It’s a struggle.”
