Report: Jake Long doesn’t want to play for Dolphins By Tim Graham | Tuesday, April 15, 2008, 01:13 PM Fox Sports editorial consultant John Czarnecki, who’s on the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s board of selectors, writes in his latest column that Michigan tackle Jake Long isn’t too fond of the Dolphins and doesn’t want to play for them. Czarencki reports “There’s a special honor in being the first pick, so Long’s agents continue to talk.†If it’s true that Long doesn’t have any attraction to the Dolphins other than the glory of being the top selection next weekend, then what do fans think about drafting him now? Title: Re: Report: Jake Long doesn’t want to play for Dolphins Post by: Sunstroke on April 15, 2008, 04:24:20 pm A few thoughts on this... 1) Who the fukk is Czarnecki anyway? And what is his relationship to Jake Long? Last time I checked, Jake wasn't in the hall of fame yet, and if he made those comments as part of a Fox sports piece, where is the direct quote? 2) If Jake really didn't want to play for Miami, I have a hard time believing he'd let things get to this point in the negotiations. Don't want Miami to draft you? When the team calls and asks if you'd like to negotiate a contract before the draft, tell them "no thanks...if you draft me, we can talk then." Voilla...Jake isn't coming to Miami! 3) I'm still waiting to see any comments from Jake, or someone associated with Jake, before I take this report as anything more than some guy yacking to hear his lips jiggle. Title: Re: Report: Jake Long doesn’t want to play for Dolphins Post by: bsfins on April 15, 2008, 04:45:41 pm I have a hard time believing Bill Parcells would be talking contract with a Guy that doesn't want to play for the Dolphins....(IE Strokes number 2 point)

Title: Re: Report: Jake Long doesn’t want to play for Dolphins Post by: CF DolFan on April 15, 2008, 05:50:43 pm From Fox Sports .... "John Czarnecki has been the editorial consultant for FOX NFL Sunday since its 1994 inception. This season marks Czarnecki's 30th year covering the NFL. He is one of 44 selectors to the Pro Football Hall of Fame"
http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/8036808/The-pressure-is-on-for-Pacman Quote The word on the street is that Michigan offensive tackle Jake Long doesn't want to play for the Dolphins, who continue to negotiate with him as the first overall draft choice. There's a special honor in being the first pick so Long's agents continue to talk. Of course, there is a deadline to these contract talks and then the Dolphins will move onto the next person on their board. Apparently, it isn't Virginia's Chris Long. Title: Re: Report: Jake Long doesn’t want to play for Dolphins Post by: Brian Fein on April 15, 2008, 11:42:32 pm hypothetically, if Jakey doesn't want to be in Miami, then he can suck a fat one. I hate the guy already. Don't wanna be here? fine - there's plenty of others who do. Peace.

I hate the guy already. Don't wanna be here? fine - there's plenty of others who do. Peace. Come on, Brian...don't let one writer's opinion, and vague reference to "word on the street" put acid in your gut for Jake. I've always been of the opinion that if "word on the street" had any brains, it would get the fukk out of the street. Title: Re: Report: Jake Long doesn’t want to play for Dolphins Post by: ARamsFan on April 16, 2008, 08:36:37 am I think players should have some sayin where they play. Let him.
Title: Re: Report: Jake Long doesn’t want to play for Dolphins Post by: MaineDolFan on April 16, 2008, 09:29:44 am If that were the case no one would want to play in for the Rams and the team would have to fold. Great idea!
Title: Re: Report: Jake Long doesn’t want to play for Dolphins Post by: ARamsFan on April 16, 2008, 01:08:15 pm Yeah, sort of.
I remember my first favorite Wilson football with, do you remember Roman Gabriel? Where Merlin Olsen, the Deacon, Fred Dryer and George Allen all either played or coached? Those guys sure seemed to want to play. Actually my football had Brodie, but WTF, fans aren't all that important to team success, except for ticket sales. Its the players playing bro. It'd be a lot more interesting if they determined more things ... more realistic I think. Title: Re: Report: Jake Long doesn’t want to play for Dolphins Post by: YoFuggedaboutit on April 16, 2008, 02:17:12 pm If that were the case no one would want to play in for the Rams and the team would have to fold. Great idea! Actually he does have a point there. Take for example a Harvard Law School graduate. He gets to pick and choose the law firm he wants to work for. The same cannot be said for NFL players.... or NBA, MLB, and NHL for that matter. Title: Re: Report: Jake Long doesn’t want to play for Dolphins Post by: StL FinFan on April 16, 2008, 02:23:49 pm They have a choice to sign or not to sign with the team that drafts them.

Well sure...the NFL is a sports league, and the draft (as well as the cap) are designed to try to ensure a level playing field. You can't compare that to a non-sports industry like lawyers, where "level playing field" is a non-issue. Come on down, Jake...Miami loves you and you'll love Miami. Title: Re: Report: Jake Long doesn’t want to play for Dolphins Post by: dolfan13 on April 16, 2008, 06:05:58 pm it might be that jake doesn't want to play for the fins given the low ball contract on the table. maybe signing gholston to a pre-2007 jamarcus russell contract makes more sense to us anyway. less guaranteed money for these crying biaches...
Title: Re: Report: Jake Long doesn’t want to play for Dolphins Post by: Guru-In-Vegas on April 16, 2008, 07:38:36 pm I agree with Brian on douche rookies who act like that though. This is why I hated Eli Manning.
Title: Re: Report: Jake Long doesn’t want to play for Dolphins Post by: YoFuggedaboutit on April 16, 2008, 08:41:43 pm Well sure...the NFL is a sports league, and the draft (as well as the cap) are designed to try to ensure a level playing field. You can't compare that to a non-sports industry like lawyers, where "level playing field" is a non-issue. Actually yes you can. While you do have a point about level playing fields, you realize that both athletics, law, doctors, teachers, and most other stuff people go to college for are PROFESSIONS. Most professions, the college student graduates and gets his/her degree, then entertains job offers. Not so in sports. Title: Re: Report: Jake Long doesn’t want to play for Dolphins Post by: Guru-In-Vegas on April 16, 2008, 09:47:00 pm ^ So why do draftees hold out then?
Title: Re: Report: Jake Long doesn’t want to play for Dolphins Post by: YoFuggedaboutit on April 16, 2008, 09:50:07 pm ^ So why do draftees hold out then? To get whatever leverage they can....... but what they realize is that they'll re-enter the draft after they choose not to sign with the team that originally drafted them. That's a year out of football for them. Title: Re: Report: Jake Long doesn’t want to play for Dolphins Post by: Philly Fin Fan on April 16, 2008, 10:21:52 pm To get whatever leverage they can....... but what they realize is that they'll re-enter the draft after they choose not to sign with the team that originally drafted them. That's a year out of football for them. Tommy- the comparison is idiotic because players are required to join a players union, and the union has agreed with the owners that players coming out of college will enter the draft. Therefore if they have a beef with it, they need to hire one of those lawyers who can work wherever he wants and sue the union. And I'm sure that will get them very far. Also, you say that most people entering professions graduate with a degree then choose where to work. A lot of athletes come out early, and enter the draft. Show me a lawyer or doctor who "comes out early" and can start practicing without a degree. Title: Re: Report: Jake Long doesn’t want to play for Dolphins Post by: Spider-Dan on April 17, 2008, 12:21:22 pm That's not a fair analogy; the athlete "earns his degree" when he shows that he can play, not when he completes his academic courses. So it's virtually impossible for them to "come out early" in that sense.
Title: Re: Report: Jake Long doesn’t want to play for Dolphins Post by: StL FinFan on April 17, 2008, 12:31:12 pm I resent being compared to a professional athlete.
Title: Re: Report: Jake Long doesn’t want to play for Dolphins Post by: Philly Fin Fan on April 17, 2008, 01:01:39 pm That's not a fair analogy; the athlete "earns his degree" when he shows that he can play, not when he completes his academic courses. So it's virtually impossible for them to "come out early" in that sense. But its a decision the athelete makes (sometimes with the help of coaches, agents, etc) and sometimes the decision is made unjustly. There are a lot of players who "come out early" and should've played another year in college. Again, doctors, lawyers, and most professions don't have the option of saying "I think I'm ready to start doing my job and I am going to forego my senior year". Title: Re: Report: Jake Long doesn’t want to play for Dolphins Post by: Guru-In-Vegas on April 17, 2008, 08:43:50 pm ^ Yeah, really. There would be no such thing as a senior year!
