Title: Celtics win title Post by: simeon on June 18, 2008, 12:07:06 am I have to admit I do not care about basketball, and I really believe LA would win.
But congrats to the Celtics on winning the championship by a blow out tonight 131-92. Title: Re: Celtics win title Post by: Thundergod on June 18, 2008, 02:16:24 am Frickin' sweet!!!! I am happy as hell, (for my dad) he's been a C's fan since the beginning of time. Way to go Boston! I continue to be jealous of your sports teams. Who's next? The Bruins? :D
Kobe has his 3, time to experience the other side buddy! WOOOOOO! Title: Re: Celtics win title Post by: landlocked on June 18, 2008, 02:58:56 am WOW!Kudos to the Celtics and Doc Rivers who totally outcoached the zen master Phil Jackson in this series.I never expected to see a 39 point win!

And everyone says the Celtics won in spite of Doc Rivers. Title: Re: Celtics win title Post by: SportsChick on June 18, 2008, 08:27:58 am I guess the book I have on my shelf by Peter May called "The Last Banner" (about the 85-86 Celtics) needs a new title now huh?
I'm psyched. This is awesome. Title: Re: Celtics win title Post by: MaineDolFan on June 18, 2008, 08:45:12 am Very cool. I ended up having to cover the game. I was pissed at first that I had to go. Yesterday was my wife's birthday. But she gave me her blessing and I'm glad that I was there to experience it.
Plus I got a hug from Ray Allen. That was cool. Title: Re: Celtics win title Post by: SportsChick on June 18, 2008, 09:00:24 am That is awesome Maine.
I think one of the touching moments was one of the TV cameras caught KG and Russell at center court and KG just said to Russell "I hope we made you proud" Somewhere, wherever he is, Red lit up a cigar last night Title: Re: Celtics win title Post by: MaineDolFan on June 18, 2008, 09:11:16 am ^^It was a mad house and we made the choice early on that we were not going to get any useful sound bytes until we got into the conference room. So it was a "let's just have fun on the court" thing. I happened to be next to Ray and I grabbed his elbow and said in his ear "thank God your child is okay, Ray. Thank you for being here." He turned around, hugged me, and said "it was scary, but I think things are good. You a dad, too, huh? I can tell."
Walker, his son, is freaking ADORABLE by the way. Title: Re: Celtics win title Post by: SportsChick on June 18, 2008, 09:21:40 am It looked like a mad house. but I so wish I could have been there. This team has brought back so many childhood memories for me, watching the great Celts teams of the 80's while being schooled in the history of the team by my biological father. When I was 7 or 8 he told me that to root for a team, you have to know the history of the team and where they came from. I am well versed in the history of the Celtics and last night was another proud moment
Title: Re: Celtics win title Post by: MaineDolFan on June 18, 2008, 09:36:53 am I'm the first to admit that I had lost interest in the C's over the years. I was a huge fan growing up. I still have my DJ jersey, he was my favorite player. But years and years of horrible management, bad drafts, terrible choices and really bad teams beat away my interest. I would pay attention to the team because it was my job, not because I wanted to. Last year was really tough. It was a joke, when someone drew a C's game to cover there were times we would literally pay someone else to go.
This team got my attention for obvious reasons. But I tell ya, title or no title, the thing that I LOVE about this squad is the defense. If they played great defense en route to 24 wins last year I would have respect them more. I love defense in any sport. Title: Re: Celtics win title Post by: SportsChick on June 18, 2008, 09:41:53 am I'm with you for the same reasons. I grew up bleeding Celtic Green. I would leave school dances early to catch games. I was insane.
I had the fortunate experience of meeting a bunch of players when I was 13. I had bought my father tickets for his birthday and at that time, they did their game-day shoot around at Brandeis University. The old man is a corporate travel agent and Brandeis was his account. Specifically, the athletic department. He was able to get us just outside the gym and as the guys came out, I got to meet them. I will never forget how tall Robert Parish seemed to me (well he still would, considering he's 7 foot, 1/2 inch) and how nice Rick Fox was. But that day, the best part, I shoot Red Auerbach's hand. He told me to follow my dreams and to not give up. That brief encounter is something that I will never forget. Title: Re: Celtics win title Post by: JVides on June 18, 2008, 10:31:19 am Kudos to the Cs for playing tough defense and kicking that Laker creampuff ass. If my Spurs couldn't...
Title: Re: Celtics win title Post by: EDGECRUSHER on June 18, 2008, 02:11:14 pm Way to motivate your team Phil. Guess it's not that easy when you don't have a bunch of Hall of Famers and the refs in your back pocket at all times.
Title: Re: Celtics win title Post by: gocowboys31 on June 18, 2008, 02:12:22 pm A great organization starts from the top. Our owners deserve alot of credit. They went over the luxury tax to put a championship product on the court. Paul Gaston was happy to make a profit, he had no intrest in building a winner. Danny Ainge deserves credit for drafting and acquiring the assets to pull of such a blockbuster deal.
I remember the lakers celebrating on our court in 85, that's why i wanted to close those fools out on sunday. Last night was special, it felt like the old garden. The crowd was rocking and it filtered to the players. Man 22 years people.......Len Bias and Reggie Lewis passing away. Rooting for teams with guys like Acie Earl, Eric Montross, Brad Lohaus, John Bagley and numerous other stiffs. Beating the Lakers means everything to me. Wacthing frauds like Will Smith, P.diddy, Spike Lee, and Justin Timberlake posing as laker fans makes me sick. The staples center is a place where you go to be seen, in boston we have diehard fans. We make noise throughout the entire game. We don't let the opposing superstar off the hook for having a subpar game. It's called CELTIC PRIDE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GREEN 17!!!!!!!!!!!! Title: Re: Celtics win title Post by: Dave Gray on June 18, 2008, 02:15:56 pm I really enjoyed watching these games. Not only do I like the Celtics, but I hate the Lakers. It was perfect.
I also like the end of the game, where the Celtics just kept piling it on, including reverse dunks and all kinds of other crazy stuff. The Lakers just had no answers. Title: Re: Celtics win title Post by: bsmooth on June 18, 2008, 04:14:03 pm When did Spike trade the Knicks for the Lakers? Also there are a lot of hard core fans in LA, but the prices there are very high and the media only focuses on the celebrities.

You could tell that all the real fans had been driven off by the money people during these finals. I'd like to call it the Miami factor, but L.A. did it first. What a bunch of fan frauds sitting in the Staples Center stands during games 3 - 5... TITLE TOWN BABY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wahat a game!!! The Big 3 did it. What more can you ask for! Thanks C's!!!!!!! The Forum opened up for fans who normally could not afford to attend games to come down to watch the game, and it was close to being full with true rabid fans, no rich people or celebrities. Title: Re: Celtics win title Post by: JVides on June 19, 2008, 04:44:06 pm I liked that KG thanked the fans in Minnesota during his post-game interview, and RIGHT after the game, while still on the court, when his emotions must have been out of control and his mind wasn't on "spin this nice for the old fans". It somehow makes me think he means it and has a place in his heart for his old fans.
Title: Re: Celtics win title Post by: BingeBag on June 20, 2008, 12:21:09 am I couldn't have really cared either way about this series. I predicted the Lakers to stomp the Celtics, but that shows how much I know about the NBA. It's nice to see my boy Posey getting a second title.

I seriously envy you. Title: Re: Celtics win title Post by: MaineDolFan on June 20, 2008, 12:06:14 pm I envy me, too. I wish my photo guy had been paying attention and not flirting with the cheerleaders and gotten a picture of me, it was great. I also think that Ray was caught up in the emotion of it all. 99 out of 100 times I say the same thing and the athlete smiles, says thanks and walks away.
Title: Re: Celtics win title Post by: SportsChick on June 20, 2008, 06:50:33 pm I saw that Ray's son was diagnosed with diabetes. Hopefully it's an easily managed case and he can have a very normal childhood with just some food adjustments
