Curt Schilling will have surgery afterall and is done for the year.

It's going to be a huge task replacing him this year, he has done a lot for the Sox enroute to an MLB best record.  Somehow, however, I think we'll get by.

In all seriousness, he was doing okay and had started throwing off a mound.  He had some tightness reoccur and, it turns out, he was right all along to want surgery.  Chances are better than not that he's thrown his last MLB pitch.  If that's the case - thanks for your help, Curt.  Two world titles in four years in a place that went 86 years in between isn't too shabby.

You think?  A lifetime 216-146 record, career 3.46 ERA and 3,116 strike outs to go along with three World Series rings?  He's 11-2 in post season all time with a 2.23 ERA. 

HOF pitcher?  No.  Well, debatable if you include post season.  But generally, in my opinion, no.  But one of this generations really good pitchers?  Yep.

I think Schilling will get in the hall.  I don't know a ton about baseball, but he is too big a name to leave out, in my opinion.

I'm not sure his overall numbers warrant a Hall nod, honestly.  You know him because he's current.  The 70's and 80's had a bunch of guys that had 210-220 career wins and never got a sniff at the Hall.

If the Hall factors in post season he has a shot - but there is no way he's a 1st ballot.  Not even close.

I think that there's more to the Hall of Fame (in any sport) than just numbers.

Schilling's contribution to the game, in general, has been big.  They marketed him a lot, he's won with more than one team, including the very high profile Red Sox.  Also, "bloody sock" type stuff adds to your legacy.  People remember that.

Schilling didn't have a lot of success until he got into his late 20's, so that hurt him. Plus, Randy Johnson won 4 Cy Youngs in a row. If Randy was in the AL, Curt would've had at least 2 of those.

I have to go with Maine on this one.  The HOF is not about name recognition.  Team glory does not always equate to personal glory.  Schilling does not have the unbelievable numbers to get him in.

1) The Damon signing actually worked out pretty well so far. Last year was more Torre's fault for not sitting Damon and letting him play through the injuries. When he got healthier, he was very productive.

2) Damon has outplayed Crisp, it's Ellsbury who is being ridiculous right now with his 900 steals in 800 attempts.

3) Overall, I think Boston has been better off in the long run without Damon because it allowed them to get younger and start guys like Ellsbury and Moss, but it's not Johnny's fault. Both teams won that deal, even if the Yankees still think baseball ends on September 30th.

I always liked Schill.Whether you agree or disagree with him,you gotta like a guy who is not afraid to speak his mind and stick by his comments.If he is done,I can seriously see him running for public office in a few years.

Good I hate Shilling.  Sox should have never signed him in the first place.

And any time you can douche for only a schilling, that's just damned good value...
