Last year the New York Times reported on a widening gambling scandal in professional tennis that implicated highly-ranked players. Now, allegations have arisen that eight Wimbledon matches (the tournament begins Monday) were fixed by professional gambling syndicates:

I think David Stern wants the Lakers in the Wimbledon finals...

This stuff is getting out of hand, all the cheating and fixing games.
What is next, golf ? I can't wait until all this crap goes away and we can just sit back and enjoy the sports again, please don't tell me professional wrestling is fixed(lol).

The problem is that Tennis is a ridiculously easy game to lose at.  I mean if I want to lose a point, all I have to do is aim for the court and it will sail out!  These guys who can hit the lines on anything they like can easilly miss by a few inches.  and for the players who know they are going to get knocked out in the first round, the offer of a large sum of money to guarantee what they were probably going to achieve anyway is quite often too tempting.

The problem is there is a huge amount of money in tennis........but not for the guys who squeeze into the majors once a year.  For a lot of players doing "the tour" is expensive, and covering costs is difficult.
