I love it.  It gives teams a chance to play other teams that they would not otherwise, and visit new cities in the process.

It also renews city rivalries such as Yankees-Mets and Cubs-White Sox.

It also may be the springboard to doing something about the DH..... either eliminating it or putting it in both leagues.  I'd love to see it put in both leagues, but there seems to be quite a few people on this board who would rather see it eliminated.

My favorite parts of the season minus the Red Sux/Yankees series'.

I enjoy it and it brings energy to the the first portion of the season.

Love it. Keeps things new and fresh. It gets a bit boring everytime I look the Marlins are playing the Nationals for the 56th time.

I think they should make the entire season interleague play.  And abolish the DH.  Dumbest Rule Ever.

This is why I say that it's no coincidence that your name rhymes with Einstein...

Lose the DH, expand interleague play and stop using a popularity contest (all star game) to determine something as critical as homefield advantage for the freakin' world series.

And, while we're at it...

* Add batters who are hit by a pitch to a pitcher's WHiP. Free passes are free passes, whether it takes 1 pitch or 4.

* If an error is commited by a pitcher during an inning, and runs score as a result, those runs should be earned runs.

* Taser Hank Steinbrenner...repeatedly.

I like Interleague play, and don't know why there isn't more of it, with so many games.

I'm kinda torn on the DH rule.  I think it's kinda interesting to have different rules for different teams.  It's something unique to baseball.

Having a pitcher up there flailing away helplessly at a 96mph 2-seam is the dumbest thing ever.  Pitches, from the day they step on campus at a college (and perhaps earlier) stop swinging bats.

Having a pitcher with a bat in his hand is the dumbest thing ever.

Within five years the NL will adopt the DH.  Mark this thread.

And, therein lies the problem...

Pitchers should be players just like every other position on the field.  Why can't we DH for catchers too?  They have to catch 90 MPH pitches, all while crouching down on their knees.  It takes a toll!  We should DH for catchers.

Hell, why not have all separate offense and defense like football does?

::)

I agree the DH is a dumb rule. Why do pitchers quit swinging bats? Every other player still take BP while practicing their position, so should pitchers.

Brian - have you noticed the overall talent pool of pitching is generally bad, bad, bad?  Arms are gold.  Pure gold.  You protect those at all cost, hence why pitchers don't touch bats once they hit a certain level.  Some states have the DH in high school at this point as well.

Originally the DH was put in place as a gimmick by the American League because the only people going to games were the players.  The original idea stunk, yes.  The overall concept at this point in time is good.  There are non-traditional players that have out of this world power numbers (second basemen hitting 20/90?  Geez) and the reason why?  The overall pitching sucks.

Let pitchers pitch and hitters hit.

DH was a gimmick to get people to watch the AL - that says it all.  The NL will NEVER adopt the DH.  BTW - a couple of our pitchers are good enough hitters that they have been used to pinch hit.

Interleage play is ok, but they need to quit trying to make the Royals and Cardinals a rivalry.  We just don't care.  Our hatred is spent on teams in our division.

I like the idea of both leagues using a different rule. The DH works in the American league and pitchers hitting in the national league works. There are pitchers who can swing a pretty good bat, theres even some who can jack a home run. I say keep it the way it is, it is neat to see your team go to a national league team and use their pitchers to bat, it also plays out with your pitching staff late in the game, do you pinch hit for him or leave him in ?
Keep it the way it is , it works.

Try paying a little closer attention to the meetings going on.  The NL almost adopted it for next season as it is.  There will be a DL in the NL within 5 years.  Take it to the bank.

I would say Maine has a little insight on this issue then the most of us. Maine are in favor of this or do you like it the way it is ? I know you like the DH position and so do I, but I like the idea of seeing pitchers hit in the playoffs, it really challenges the coaching staff.

Do you think there'd be backlash if they got adopted the DH in the National League.

I think more people I know like it when pitchers have to hit.  It adds so much more strategy.

Hey, I'm not saying it in a bad way - just a FYI way.  The talks have gone on behind the scenes forever.  Back in the day the NL and AL had seperate governing bodies and commish heads.  Now it's all one front office.

Yes, I think a severe one as well.  One of the reasons that it'll get "talked about" for a couple years before done.

I would think the DH rule has given the AL advantage over the NL, all we need to do is look at the recent world series winners, the AL has been dominate lately.

Oh you mean like 2006?

Make all the arguments for it that you like, I still won't like it and most NL fans will have a fit if they institute it in the NL.

Hard to tell, with no cap.  It could just be that the best teams are in the AL.

A more accurate representation would be all of interleague play.  How does that look?  ...still not a great measuring stick, but better than world series wins.

the DH takes all the strategy and consequence of a pitching change out of the game.  Your pitcher is sucking?  In the NL, you're forced to think about your batting lineup, the players on your bench, last outs, etc, before you can change your pitcher.  In the AL - sure take him out, its just a pitcher.  He has no affect on anything else anyway.

This isn't true at all.  The games that are played in the NL park do not have the DH.  The AL team is at a huge disadvantage as they play the rest of the season with a DH and rely on that offense.
