Title: UFL
Post by: simeon on August 12, 2008, 11:39:12 pm
The United Football League was around in the 50's now I have been reading they are reforming and starting their new season sometime this month. I also read that would hire Vick in 09 after he gets out of the slammer. Do any of you know anything about this new league, it appears they are saying they will be the minor league of football where the players of tomorrow play today.

At least they are taking a better approach than Vince McMahon and the XFL. In my opinion, the XFL's critical mistake was saying that they were going to be better and replace the NFL. This league seems to be presenting itself as football after the NFL is over. If the XFL had taken that approach, they would likely be in their 8th season.

They seem to have some interesting ideas and it'll be exciting to see how it works out. They have a hard cap on player salary ($20 million) - and one on coaching salary as well ($3 million). Head coaches are expected to be paid about 50% of the cap and quarterbacks 5-20% of the player cap ($1 to $4 million).

Peter King has an interesting write-up:

They aren't starting for another year, if they even start then. I don't think they have met a single deadline yet (case in point pushing the opening back an entire year) and I don't think all of the proposed cities (there are only six) even have owners yet.

my buddy is one of the head honchos setting up/running this league....i was THIS close to going to work for him.  it's going to be interesting and if he's behind it, bet your ass it's going to do well.

I think it is kind of stupid to have 2 teams in places that have actual NFL teams.
