No...the league office would shut that down in a hurry. ;) Title: Re: Chad Johnson wants to change his name... Post by: Brian Fein on August 14, 2008, 10:49:42 am I think Chad Johnson is just as sick of the Favre-ritism on ESPN and wants to give them something else to talk about for 3 minutes.
Title: Re: Chad Johnson wants to change his name... Post by: AZ Fins Fan 55 on August 14, 2008, 12:29:54 pm I think Chad Johnson is just as sick of the Favre-ritism on ESPN and wants to give them something else to talk about for 3 minutes. Granted....we need it but I honestly think he is serious. It would be funny as hell if they allowed him the name change and then he was traded to another team and he was unable to attain the number 85. To see Ocho-Cinco on the back of jersey number 87 would be pure comedy!!!!! Title: Re: Chad Johnson wants to change his name... Post by: Brian Fein on August 14, 2008, 12:43:09 pm did you ever see "The Fan" with Wesley Snipes and DeNiro? I could see that situation happenning.
"I'm Ocho Cinco, baby, you got my number!" Title: Re: Chad Johnson wants to change his name... Post by: Dave Gray on August 14, 2008, 03:05:54 pm Go for it. Change your name and put it on your jersey. It doesn't hurt anyone, and it's good for marketing.
I like Chad Johnson. He's a fruitloop and show-off, but he's harmless. It's attention, but it's not a lot of negative attention most of the time. It's him acting like a goofball, but he takes the fines and people love it. Title: Re: Chad Johnson wants to change his name... Post by: Guru-In-Vegas on August 14, 2008, 04:42:23 pm This is a more appropriate thread to use the world's biggest < ::) >.
Ocho Stinko. What a clown. Title: Re: Chad Johnson wants to change his name... Post by: MyGodWearsAHoodie on August 14, 2008, 06:49:54 pm Ocho is a good player who doesn't get in REAL trouble. He is bit flashy, quite childish but he get a bad rap. I would have no problem having him on my team.
Title: Re: Chad Johnson wants to change his name... Post by: TonyB0D on August 15, 2008, 03:37:47 am this guy cracks me up....he is by FAR my favorite player in the league. he is a comedic genius, and many years from now, there will be an awesome movie that is just a montage of his antics.
Title: Re: Chad Johnson wants to change his name... Post by: StL FinFan on August 15, 2008, 11:43:18 am Ocho cinco means "eight, five" not eighty-five. He is such a moron. I looked this up: eighty-five in Spanish translates to "ochenta y cinco".
Title: Re: Chad Johnson wants to change his name... Post by: ethurst2 on August 15, 2008, 01:11:07 pm People take him too seriously. He grew up in my neighborhood (Liberty City) and guys like him are a dime a dozen and are truly clowning and mean no harm.
And if you grew up in Liberty City amongst the poor, blighted run-down areas, you have to have a sense of humor just to come out of there or else, you get overwhelmed by it. He's just doing a comedy routine, which the NFL really needs. I love the proposal celebration that he did a couple of years back. He's a throwback to some of those characters that the NFL had in the 70's before they cracked down on stuff (Alzado, Matusak, Billy "White Shoes" Johnson). The NFL should allow decent celebrations. It's hard to get into the end zone so if a player wants to celebrate, that's fine. I miss all the touchdown celebrations they had in the old days. You don't want to be scored upon? Then play defense. Title: Re: Chad Johnson wants to change his name... Post by: Tenshot13 on August 21, 2008, 10:24:46 pm Chad's a whackjob...the NFL needs more like him and less T.O.'s.

He grew up in my neighborhood (Liberty City) and guys like him are a dime a dozen and are truly clowning and mean no harm. Did you know Tommy Vercetti? Or Niko Bellic? As for Chad Johnson... all I can say is, "I told you so." When you allow a player to run around unhinged while you're winning, you can't expect him to turn off the spigot when you're losing. CIN was too busy letting him make a name for himself while they were attempting to get relevant again... now they are reaping what they have sown. Title: Re: Chad Johnson wants to change his name... Post by: fyo on August 30, 2008, 05:58:06 am The powers of Broward County have now affirmed Chad Johnson's name change. His full legal name is now "Chad Javon Ocho Cinco".

Although it looks like ethurst deleted his account again. Title: Phelps accepts challenge. Post by: MyGodWearsAHoodie on August 30, 2008, 07:36:45 am I love Chad Javon Ocho Cinco.
The man is hoot. Yeah he is an attention whore. But that's it. People who lump him in with the other Bengals that are actual criminal have a few lose screws themselves. As many of you probably already know Ocho Cinco said he could beat Michael Phelps in a swimming race. http://drfunkenberry.wordpress.com/2008/08/15/michael-phelps-wins-6-challenged-by-chad-johnson/ Michael Phelps has accepted the challenge. http://myespn.go.com/blogs/afcnorth/0-0-207/Michael-Phelps-accepts-Chad-Johnson-s-challenge.html Title: Re: Phelps accepts challenge. Title: Re: Phelps accepts challenge. Post by: MyGodWearsAHoodie on August 30, 2008, 08:33:39 am I've GOT to see this. Me too! One idea bantered about was 100 meter swim and 100 meter run, best combined time wins. Get two charities. A bunch of corporate sponsors. Each one races for one of the charities. Winning charity gets a bunch of money from the sponsors. Title: Re: Chad Johnson wants to change his name... Post by: Philly Fin Fan on August 30, 2008, 10:56:10 am I agree with Hoodie. I love Johns-----errr, Ocho Cicno's antics. Its not like he's committing crimes. He has said he wants a career in Hollywood after the NFL and I can see him getting one.
Title: Re: Chad Johnson wants to change his name... Post by: stinkfish on August 30, 2008, 04:39:08 pm I can't believe that some Florida Judge let him do this, or even listened to him about this for one, and for two, if I were a Bengals fan I would not "love his antics". Just play football. That's all he is, a football player. Just shut up, try and get your sad sack team into the playoffs, and focus on the only thing that you know how to do.

Changing your name is pretty routine. Unless there is evidence that your reason is to defraud someone, it is rare that it will get turned down. Title: Re: Chad Johnson wants to change his name... Post by: Defense54 on August 30, 2008, 06:29:51 pm The guy git fined for having it on his Jersey. Now the League officials can't say shit. That's what its all about. The guy is an asshole.........but he's a smart asshole. :D
Title: Re: Chad Johnson wants to change his name... Post by: YoFuggedaboutit on August 30, 2008, 06:32:24 pm Looks like he officially did it, according to the Miami Herald.

Yes, he's an attention whore alright, for thus far he's been a fairly harmless attention whore. He's more funny than negative.Title: Re: Chad Johnson wants to change his name... Post by: Frimp on September 04, 2008, 05:45:25 pm Well, he did change his name, and the NFL allowed it. Look for Chad Ocho Cinco on Sunday. ::)
Remember when Chad 8-5 caught that touchdown pass? Title: Re: Chad Johnson wants to change his name... Post by: YoFuggedaboutit on September 04, 2008, 05:50:44 pm Anyone know the status of his shoulder injury? He's playing this week, but from what I've read, he's got a torn labrium. That's not good.
Title: Re: Chad Johnson wants to change his name... Post by: fyo on September 04, 2008, 07:26:57 pm Anyone know the status of his shoulder injury? He's playing this week, but from what I've read, he's got a torn labrium. That's not good. Ocho's labrum injury is only a partial tear. That could be anything from almost nothing to almost completely torn, so we have no way of knowing how fit he is to play. Title: Re: Chad Johnson wants to change his name... Post by: Philly Fin Fan on September 04, 2008, 08:29:38 pm I think its funny seeing it listed on the teams roster:

Just like I never pronounced Patrick Surtain Sur-tan. Title: Re: Chad Johnson wants to change his name... Post by: MyGodWearsAHoodie on September 04, 2008, 08:39:35 pm I bet sales of his jersey skyrocket.
Title: Re: Chad Johnson wants to change his name... Post by: Frimp on September 04, 2008, 08:42:35 pm ^^
Yeah, and if he gets a ring, and into the HOF, his Johnson jerseys will be worth alot to someone. Title: Re: Chad Johnson wants to change his name... Post by: fyo on September 04, 2008, 09:12:38 pm I'm betting Ocho is going to launch a whole TM'ed brand "Ocho Cinco". He could make some *serious* cash if he could market himself that way.
Title: Re: Chad Johnson wants to change his name... Post by: Frimp on September 10, 2008, 11:05:28 pm Uh-oh, mucho dinero for ocho cinco!
http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/blog/shutdown_corner/post/It-ll-cost-mucho-dinero-for-Chad-Ochocinco-to-sw?urn=nfl,106605 Quote Don't expect to see Chad Johnson Ocho Cinco wearing his new name on a jersey anytime soon. CNBC's Darren Rovell reports on his blog that the former Mr. Johnson would be forced to buy out the stock of the 100,000 remaining "C. Johnson" jerseys before making the switch to "Ocho Cinco". If Reebok asked Ocho Cinco to pay for the cost of making the unsold jerseys, the total could reach upwards of $4 million (or $50 million pesos). Because Johnson changed his name so close to the start of the season, Reebok was left in a bind since they'd have to produce new jerseys and eat the old ones. That's why the NFL has told Johnson he'd have to reimburse the company for the price of the jerseys. That's not unprecedented, rookie linebacker Keith Rivers did it last week when he changed his uniform number. Of course, Rivers didn't have thousands of jerseys with his name on it on sales racks nationwide. This whole charade, of course, is pretty ridiculous. It's tough to defend Johnson, as he's so narcissistic that he makes T.O. look like Mother Teresa. And the NFL is so blatant in their attempts to block Johnson from donning his new name on the back of his Bengals jersey that it almost seems beneath them. Sure, it's inane and self-serving and could set a bad precedent, but shouldn't the league be focusing on more important issues, like stopping players from celebrating touchdowns? |
