I'm watching the Sox and Yanks play at the moment and it seems like half of the players are wearing these ridiculous titanium necklaces that supposedly promote greater blood circulation. The Yankees YES network has been running advertisements for the damn things all morning.

It all seems like a bunch of BS to me. Does anyone think these things actually work or has this become another baseball superstition? More cynically, are the players just trying to make a bit more money endorsing snake oil?

if there are commercials during the broadcast for a product that the players are mysteriously suddenly wearing, I'd wonder how much money the titanium necklace people paid the Yankees' brass to force the players to wear them on the field.

Jaba Chamberlin is in the commercial, but several of the Red Sox players are wearing them too. The website for the product claims that over 100 major league players wear the titanium necklaces. Were the all paid or do they think necklaces work?

Copper bracelets were the big thing with players in the 70's through the early 80's. Magnets came in during the mid 80's and were used a lot.  Players are people, so they get caught up in the same "I'll try anything to feel stronger/faster/better" fad-chasing as everyone else.

Some of the boys swear by them, they feel better / looser with them on.  Just in their head?  Maybe.

It's all in their heads, but really, whatever works. Hopping over the chalk means nothing, but if it makes people play better, so be it. I would bet every single major leaguer has a superstition, even intelligent guys like Mike Mussina have rituals that have nothing to do with baseball that they swear by.

Sounds like a bunch of hocus pocus nonsense to me.
