Title: Brady goes down!!!!
Post by: YoFuggedaboutit on September 07, 2008, 06:38:49 pm
The Pats are saying he sustained a knee injury.  I saw him having to be helped off the field and he did not return.  Matt Cassell took over and the Pats eeked out a 17-10 win over the Chiefs.

Anybody got any further news on Brady's injury?

I am in New England and not releasing any info to verify. But they had an interview with Moss and he said Cassel needs to lead this team now. The announcers believe he has a season ending injury(not verified).
I don't like the Pats or Brady, but I wish him well in his recovery.

According to Dr. Brett Favre it is a torn ACL.  I shit you not.  A QB on another team that played 1000 miles away knows what is wrong with Tom.

Yeah right.

It definitely don't sound too good for Brady, I know I don't like him but I am sorry to here he may have suffered a bad injury.
I know it sucked when Dan got injured, fortunately it happened when Tom is still young.

I'll tell you what, up here in New England there is a mass exodus from the bandwagon.  I won't be surprised to read of the bodies floating down the charles from all the "patsy-fans" jumping off bridges.    ::)

On the upside for the patsies, I am told that low and behold it wasn't Brady that was the next coming of Christ, it was some guy named... "Cassel"... who's he I wonder.  ::) ::)

Well I am going to go cry my self to sleep. :-\

Don't be so sure of that Tepop.  Reuniting Culpepper with his boy Moss might be a good thing at this point.

I had an option to trade for Brady before the season started in one of my other Fantasy Leagues.  Thank God I chose not to.

Dirty play?? A tackle is a dirty play.  If Brady wasn't hurt every coach would use it as an example as a good second effort.

NE will be ok, Cassel has a good team around him, they aint winning the Super Bowl but they're in a bad division. I'll super glue my nostrils together if they don't make the playoffs. It'll be VERY interesting now. Buffalo actually scored 34pts. today? If that's a sign of things to come... The Jets are better. Hmmmm.

Edit:    ;)

Cassell has a good team around him...

Just to clarify... Matt "Cassel" is the Patsies' QB who looks sort of like Ray Liotta. Sam "Cassell" is the veteran NBA point guard and star of Alien Autopsy. Just so there is no confusing them...

Patriots QB, Matt Cassel

Considering they're bringing in Chris Simms for a workout, I seriously doubt it.  Take any decent QB and surround him with the talent on this offense and he'll look really good.

I don't think I had joined yet when Ronnie got injured.  But I do recall posting that it sucked the Ricky got injured after working so hard to return.

I will laugh at another teams loss of a game.  But I don't laugh at people getting injured.  There is a difference.

Let's face it, no one is cheering that Brady got hurt, at least I don't think so.  The rest of the league has taken so much gloating and bragging and crap from both the media and Patriots' fans themselves over the past year.  No one's happy to see a guy get his knee busted, but people are happy to see some of these Pats fans get back a bit of what they dish out.  People are happy to know that their team *might* have a chance now because the NFL can't give the Patriots automatic tickets to the Super Bowl now.  I agree that cheering for a guy to get hurt is classless and despicable, but I think that some Patriots' fans have dished it out and now they can't take it back.

Let's face it, we really don't even know the extent of his injury until his MRI results are released.  Yeah, I will admit I smiled when I heard he was out of the game, but when I saw they play where his knee got rolled up on, I cringed.  As much as fans of other teams "hate" a good opposing player, I don't like to see severe injuries to anyone.

If it seems like I'm backtracking, I will restate that my previous comment was to ONE person on this board who particularly enjoyed rubbing it in when Ronnie got hurt and our team was winless.  I was in no way making fun of the injury.

Raiders fans can't be too far behind.

There are only two types of NFL fans...

1- fans from the Northeast (Jets, Eagles, etc) and Raiders fans
2 - human

Back in 99, when Trent Green was supposed to save the Rams but instead got hurt in the preseason on a (imo dirty) play by Rodney Harrison, some guy named Kurt Warner took his place.

The Patriots will still win the division.  Other teams had better not underestimate them, they are still a very talented team.

Team will still win the division.  Still have the better team in the division without Brady.  Yes, even Mat can be a good QB with all the weapons he has, last time I checked the Pats still have a good D. The same coaches are going to coach.

So yes the Pats can still win the Division.

I think that the people cheering after they realized that Brady was really hurt was wrong, however it could have been a kneejerk reaction brought on by alcohol consumption. Losing Brady will not end the season for the Pats. Still, the Chiefs did not exactly lose like the Lakota at Wounded Knee, but a victory is still a victory. That game should be a good warm up for Cassel to get his feet wet, and he should be ready for the next game vs the Jets and Favre.

Your right its football.  Thats why a team has more than 1 QB on the team.  This is not the first time in the NFL that this has happened to a NFL team. (Pats) Just makes things more intresting in the AFC.  Should be a good game next week.  We should see if Mat gets to keep the starting job or if they will go out and sign one.

I say this in all sincerity:

Barring an official finding by the NFL of wrongdoing by the Chiefs, I can't imagine that anyone would shed a tear for Brady and the Pats.  After the classless way they behaved all of last year (and I'm not talking about Spygate), it's absurd to expect anything BUT cheers when one of theirs goes down.

Respect and class are two-way streets.  NE didn't "break any rule" when they were throwing fly routes on 4th down when they were up by 30.  Likewise, unless there is a ruling to the contrary, Bernard Pollard did not "break any rule" when he exploded Brady's knee.

personally i hate the pats with an extreme passion, and did not shed any tears in them losing brady. i do think however that teams in the afc east would be wise not to overlook that team.

a solid run game, solid defense, smart play (limiting turnovers) and good coaching will get you a good amount of wins in this league. parity is a biatch in the nfl... look, for all of the jets supposed greatness now, they were shitting bricks up until the very last minute of the game.

point is that while the pats aren't going to overwhelm teams now, in a close game (which many nfl games seem to come down to), they still have some playmakers on offense and defense. the afc east isn't that tough a division (although the bills look like the real deal), and it wouldn't be crazy to think that they still could win this division.

People hate success.  In 2003 there were still people that were sympathetic to the Red Sox's plight as Boone's home run sailed into the Yankee night, driving yet another knife into the hearts of all Sox fans.  A handful of years and two rings later, the disdain for the Red Sox couldn't be higher.

After the Patriots pull down 3 rings in a short amount of time, plus an additional AFC title game (loss V. Indy) and another Super Bowl loss en-route to a 18-1 season, it's no wonder why America is waiting for this team to stumble and fall.

What I don't understand in all this is the reaction from Patriot fans - how they are so blind to this?  Did they really expect the country to lower flags to half staff when Tom Brady went down?  Teams lose players every week.  Some more significant than others.  'How dare you not be sad?' they almost challenge us.

I specifically remember Pats fans that were ALL OVER ME when Marino went down against Cleveland.  Miami was a good team and the Pats were the NFL's whipping post.  I was watching that game in a bar and the loudest cheer ever went up with Marino went down.

Funny how time makes people forget these little things.

I would suggest to Pats fans to not look for sympathy in any other corner of the NFL other than their own.  I don't like to see any player get hurt.  The NFL, as a whole, is better with Brady than without.  But I'm not crying in my coffee over it.  My quarterback is Chad Pennington, I have my own worries to sort out.

I can't imagine that anyone would shed a tear for Brady and the Pats.

Among Colt fans there are a handful who like the easier road thru the AFC, but the majority are disappointed.  There were looking forward to another Brady vs. Manning battle, a Cassel vs. Manning isn't the same.  Some Charger fans feel the same way, but not nearly as many.

However, among fan bases with shitty crappy teams that almost no hope against Brady, and will struggle and probably lose against Cassel your sentiment is common.

Dude...you are seriously going to sit there and tell me how Colt and Charger fans FEEL?  Give me a break.  One of my best friends is a season ticket holder in San Diego and he did a jig when he found out about Brady's injury.

Speak for the person you know most about - you.

Cassell could pull an Earl Morrall out of the hat.

I always thought that the Patriots system made Tom Brady for what he is today and not the other way around.  If a coach is smart (like Andy Reid) he would have quarterbacks on his roster that all thrive in his system.

I'm not counting the Patriots out. They are going to rally around Brady being hurt

I really think that we'll see now how overrated Tom Brady is.  If Cassel can come in and the team doesn't miss a beat, does that mean that suddenly Cassel is HoF bound?  Or does it mean that maybe - JUST MAYBE - Brady is a product of his team?

Define miss a beat?

Go the playoffs?

or does it require a bit more to say the team didn't miss a beat?

Like win 18 games this season,

or  Cassel throwing 50 TDs

or   the Patriots outscore their oppenants  by 315 points

or Cassel having a game with a 92.86% completion rate

or Cassel having a +42 TD to INT difference

or Cassel passing for over 4000 yards

Title: Re: Brady goes down!!!!
Post by: Brian Fein on September 10, 2008, 02:31:29 pm
I'm not talking about Cassel's individual stats.

"Not miss a beat" means that the team goes 14-2 and gets the first round bye and competes for the AFC title, like everyone expected them to with Brady.

Hey D5499,

Usually, chicks like that chase the money. If he can't make it back, she will probably dump him and get the next up and coming stud out of college that just signed a big contract. There are women who really hustle athletes. :o

Like win 18 games this season,

The Patriots were NEVER going to get close again this year. They might have won (and they might still) the Super Bowl, but they were definitely not nearly as good a team (with Brady) this year as they were last year.

I've always felt Brady was overrated as well, but he's still a very good quarterback... so I wouldn't expect a backup to come in and match the numbers Brady would have gotten.

To me, if Cassel pulls off a "very good" season in terms of QB stats, then would definitely be the clincher.

Yeah, if Brady doesn't come back, Gisele could be swallowing some White Cassel instead...

The Pats are already down to #7 from #1 last week:

We are climbing the ladder up to #24 despite losing becuase we gave the Jets a good fight and really should have won the game.

I was showing the wide variance in the supposed experts opinion on the rankings.  But being this is the NFL and not college it doesn't matter, cause the only way you get invited to a bowl game is win the AFCCG or NFCCG.  No by your ranking.

Brady was league MVP last year.  Obviously the team is not as good without him as it was with him.

I stand by the three prediction I made BC (before Cassel).

1. The Dolphins will have a better regular season record this year than they had last year.
2. The Patriots will not have as good of a regular season record this year as they had last year.
3. The Patriot will have a better regular season record than the Dolphins.

I watched some Dolphin games last year.  That would be a vast improvement if they started playing all four quarters.

Me neither, could just be some talking head saying that would be a good deal.  I would be shocked if BB does anything until after the Jets game.
