And if so, have you cried tears of joy or despair...or both.

I, personally, have never cried from despair.  Losses usually roll off my back pretty well, and I don't take them too seriously.

I have, however, shed a tear over moments that I find to be really moving -- personal accomplishments of others, retirements, people overcoming adversity, etc.  ...there are too many times to count, where I held back a tear...but I'm sure in there somewhere, one's fallen out.

I have cried tears of despair in personal competition. I don't think that is what you mean though. I am much the same as you. I am upset at seeing my team lose, but I don't ever remember tears coming forth. Watching personal achievements have brought a tear to my eye though.

I've cried tears of joy a lot.  The last time was when the Dolphins finally got a win last season.  Tears of despair once.  NCAA Tournament 1995 when Mizzou just missed upsetting #1 UCLA.  By one point!!!   :'(

now that i think about it i'm shocked at the amount of times i've cried over sports.  the only other 2 times i've cried since i was a kid was when i put my dogs down.

  times i've cried for sports:

my last little league game i ever played. 
when paul o'neil got that never-ending standing O at his last game at the stadium.
when daneyko held the cup over his head (he was retiring that year).
when i was at the devils last game in their old building in the meadowlands.
in the last yankees game of last year when they were losing and torre called in Mo and handed him the ball for the last time (we didn't know if either would be back the next year).
i'll cry when i watch the last game at yankee stadium.

I was at the last regular season game at Busch.  It was a party!

Never tears of joy...I can reach maximum joy levels without tears happening.

I've only cried tears of despair (though it seems a little too dramatic of a term) once because of a sports team that I didn't play on. It was after the Padres lost the '84 World Series to the Tigers, because I had spent so much time cheering for that team. I had VHS tapes of games sent to Germany so I could watch them...there was a lot of emotional investment there.

I've never cried tears of despair when my team loses.  More like I let loose a string of obscenities and start punching things. 

I have cried tears of joy for wins.... most recently when Plaxico Burress caught the winning TD pass in Super Bowl XLII.

My grandmother was a yankees fan, and the year that she died, was the year of Boon'es HR that won their playoff series in the Bronx against Boston. I cried. My mother cried.

I was watching this documentary on ESPN titled kick it. It was about the homeless world cup soccer tournament.  The teams were composed of players from all over the world who for one reason or another found themselves homeless.  There was a 23 year old boy from Pakistan whose entire family was killed by the Taliban. They couldn't play soccer without getting severely beaten by members of the Taliban. He said football was the only thing left in life that made him happy!! It was really touching. There were individual stories from all over the world including the  US.  There is a website called kickingitthefilm.com if you are interested.

It made me cry for sure!

I had a hard time after game 7 of the 2004 ALCS.

Never cried, for either. I've just been SUPER HAPPY or SUPER PISSED. I must be out of touch.   :-\

I cried last year when USF beat WVU and Auburn. I am crying now from the win over Kansas.

Helluva game. Good for the Bulls. I would love to see either of those two starting QB''s playing for the Phins.

Good thread.  I've cried due to wins, losses and games I've been involved with.

I cried in 1982 as the Chargers beat Miami.

On a cold night in 2003, as I sat in at Yankee Stadium, I brushed away tears while Tim Wakefield was crying at the podium apologizing for giving up Boone's game winning home run.  I think everyone's heart broke a little for Tim that night.

One year later I cried twice.  Once when Boston completed the comeback V NYY and then again when they swept St. Louis.  I was mostly thinking of my Grampy - who was born in 1918 and had always said that he would die in a summer - and that summer would be the year Boston would finally win it.  My Gramps passed in August of that year.

I cried watching Miami getting their asses handed to them in Jacksonville, knowing it was the last time I would ever see my favorite player (Marino) in a game.

I cried the year before when Miami got it's asses handed to them in Buffalo knowing it was the last time I would see Shula on the sidelines.

I cried when the last out was recorded as we crushed Cal State San Bernardino and I became a National Champion.  It was the best moment of my playing 'career.'

Yep, I cried in 2003 when the Cubs Blew the lead against the Marlins...I was talking to my grandfather,Baseball was one of the things we had to talk about....

Like Maine the Jags Dolphins game...My eye's were welling up,looking at Marino on the sideline after he'd been pulled....

Reason #1000 why JJ belongs in the Hall of Dishonor. Nice, bench Marino in what everyone knew was going to be his last game.

I shed a tear for the awesomeness that was that game.


I was at both of those games(WVU and Kansas)...I was a little drunk in the stands rooting on our boys on Friday against Kansas and I have to say I was a little emotional at how far the Bulls have come since only three years ago...Ray Jay was pretty much packed to capacity and even when we were down big in the first half, the fans never stopped cheering.

When I saw Kevin Everett at the ESPY's I got a little emotional...even if he was a Buffalo Bill, that is a great story and I'm really happy to see him pretty much make a full recovery.

Never have, nor ever will.

Sports is for fun & not something to cry over.  I learned a long time ago that if my team wins I've truly gained nothing & if they lose I've not lost anything.  It never affects my day or mood.

I've watched friends of mine get mad & then take it out on their kids/wife because their favorite college team lost.  A school they never attended BTW.

Same here I was just going to post the same.

When Boone hit that HR I could not believe it.  I was so pissed off. 

Then the year later when the Sox won it I was like all these years watching the sox and saying may be next year finally came true.

The closest was when the olmpic runner tore his Achilles and his father can out of the stands to help him limp across the finish line.
Anything less than something a human as that is kind of weak, unless you were on the field playing.

We're the Cubs....We'll find away to lose....I keep thinking we've not made the playoffs in back to back years since 1907,and 1908....

6 games left with the Brewers,3 with St Louis,and 3 with the Mets....and the way the Cubs are playing...with a 6.5 game lead.... :-\ :-\ It's the cruel fate of being a Cubs fan....It's the Carrot,and I'm the Donkey....

Dude, the Cubs have owned the Cardinals this year and we just got swept by the Pirates (THE PIRATES!!!!)  Why worry about playing us?

Carlos Zambrano just threw a no no...and I didn't get to see it....and I put him on the bench for for the fantasy playoffs....

It's the Numbers game..Stl..The Pirates gave us hell too so did the Reds...the Astros....It's still the Cardinals,it's always a big game...
