Lets see Mcgowan, Marcum, and Burnett from the rotation have had or are going to have TJS. In the bullpen from what i believe, league might have had it, i know BJ Ryan had it. I'm am a little bit, Cito Gaston just got a 2 year extension so thats always a plus, i really like Cito. 48-31 since he came over. If he was there when the season started i think this team would have been in the playoffs, The team plays much better when Cito ths manager than Gibby. The NL Central has also been excellent, though with 1 top team as opposed to 2.
The Jays need offense and they need 2 more starters now. Burnett is all but gone and now Marcum is lost to injury. They should make a pitch for solid yet unspectacular guys like Derek Lowe or Ben Sheets. In a perfect world, they would get Texiera and Sabathia and Sheets, but they probably only have money for 1 and they have to play it smart. I don't know if they can ever get over the hump without the top 3 teams faltering a lot as opposed to the Jays just being the best. Tough spot for them. EDIT: Giambi seems like a good fit actually. The Yankees will buy him out and probably not bring him back, and he would be a good DH/1B for Toronto. He isn't what he used to be, but he still has an OPS+ of 134 this season. Preferably either at first base or DH. I wouldn't mind the team trading Overbay for pitching if we could get a power hitting DH or 1B in Free Agency. Move Lind to first and put Snider in LF or vice versa. Hopefully hill will be back next season.
I think the jays will need to go after one starter in the offseason. David Purcey, a guy the jays called up this season has had a few bumpy games but has looked solid in others, Bullpen is as solid as you can get. One of the best in the bigs arguably. With regards to money, Ted Rogers has said he will go over budget for the right player or players. so money is not so much an issue. Hell Ted rogers can up the blue jays payroll to 200 million if he wanted to, it's not smart, but he could do it. Go after Giambi, Pat Burrell and maybe even Manny. Shit, sign them all and figure out the positions later. Then, try to re-sign Burnett and also throw a few more years at Halladay before he even sniffs free agency.
Depending on how the Yanks reload, if the Jays did those moves, I think they can overtake them and maybe even for a legit wild card spot. |
