Title: Anyone here a Jehovah Witness
Post by: Pats2006 on November 01, 2008, 02:26:15 pm
I just had a  question:

Why does the religion put down the Catholic religion?

Two Jehovah Witness came to my door and were asking what religion I am and I told them Catholic.  They seen the Marine Corps flag I have hanging outside my house and were asking me if I knew any fellow Marine's that have died in Iraq. So I told the about my 19 year old bro-in-law that got killed in Iraq and they asked me if I knew what happened to him when he died so I told them that he went to heaven so they asked me how do I know for sure so I go on and tell them that thats what the Catholic religion has told me.  Then they go on and tell me something that I am wrong and that only 1000 and something go to heaven a year.

Then they go on and try to convince me that their Bible is the only one that should be followed and then try to show me how the Catholic Bible is wrong.

This was like 3 weeks ago and every since then they have been knocking on my door every weekend to the point where I just ignore them.

I haven't yet had them come to my door.  I'm not sure how I'll deal with it.  I think I'll probably talk to them.

Although, I think it's weird that you'd go door to door to try and get people to convert.  I don't imagine it's all that effective a tactic.

I knew some kids in high school that had to go door to door and they hated it.  They said that it's best if you just don't answer the door.

Two women Jehovah Witness came to my door every week for 4 weeks. The first three times I politely told them I was not interested.

The fourth time I came to the door dressed only in a towel like I was getting out of the shower. I also invited them in.

Haven't been bothered since.

There is a gentleman at my work that is a Witness.  I had asked him if he planned to vote, and he stated that Witnesses do not vote, as they do not participate in "the political system."

We had a moderately long discussion about the concept of neutrality and whether failing to vote could really be considered neutral.  The argument that he made was that Witnesses must remain neutral politically, but can help others; however, he is "permitted" to serve on a jury.  This seemed a somewhat shaky argument to me, but whatever.

While to some extent, I believe that those that refuse to vote don't deserve to vote, I do find it somewhat disturbing that religions like this actively encourage an abdication of your responsibility as a U.S. citizen.

I'm cool with this.  It's better than the other extreme, voting your religion into politics.

Since they couldn't Talk to me on the phone, they mailed me a Bible, with a letter about them wanting to talk to me...I knew someone at their church, and I asked about them,is what started everything....

I've done a study on them.  They believe that Jesus was simply a "Great Teacher" and God is a mighty God but not The Almighty God.  They also believe that only 144000 people will go to heaven, ever.   They claim they have a "Superior Bible" but it's still unknown who the J.W. scholars were that translated the Bible into their version.

The first time they showed up at my house, I had a major debate with them on what real Christianity was all about and totally cut them down.  They haven't been back since

If there are only a certain amount of people that go to Heaven, why are they trying to recruit people?  You'd think they would be worried that it was full by now.

I think I will ask them that if they ever come to my door!  XD

On a related note, the thing that gets me the most is when one set of Christians say that another set "aren't really 'Christians'."  I've heard Catholics say it about Mormons, and I've heard Mormons say it about Jehovah's Witnesses.

Seems pretty simple to me... if you believe in Jesus as the son of God who died for your sins, that pretty much makes you a Christian.

No there is at least one or two "good" christians on this board who would tell you, that you are wrong and believing alone does not make you a true christian.

IMO, you are correct.  Religion is man made.

While I agree with Spider-Dan's definition.

I also realize that how one would define "Christian" tells me more about the speaker than it does about Christianity.

"Christian" is not the only word this board would not be able to agree on a definition for.  Others would include: liberal, conservative, RINO, human life, murder, rights, normal, healthy, family or even who is a "troll" at TDMMC .....

I wanted to pull my pistol out shoot m self in the head!

Sorry, let me clarify:

What I meant was that (for example) many Protestants do not believe that Catholicism is a Christian religion.  I have literally heard people say, "they're not Christian... they're Catholic."

That's the odd thing about Protestantism in my estimation. The Bible's the authority, and it's every man's guide... but not if you're X, Y, or Z.

Never made any sense to me.
