Title: Exit Polling? Post by: bsfins on November 04, 2008, 10:50:42 am As I was Walking into Vote, I saw a table On the parking lot,and 5 people with Clip boards standing next to it,then chasing people down...to ask them how they voted....I went in to vote,Ran into a couple of Co workers, and a nieghbor...All of Us white men....We stood outside the church, where we're told to vote...No one ever approached us to ask us how we voted,we stood there for maybe 5 minutes...I tend to live in a bad neighborhood, but thought it was interesting to see them Literally chasing every black person after they vote,to see how they voted....
It made me wonder..... Did anyone ask you how you voted after you voted? Title: Re: Exit Polling? Post by: Phishfan on November 04, 2008, 10:59:57 am I have never seen anyone taking an exit poll at my location.
Title: Re: Exit Polling? Post by: Frimp on November 04, 2008, 11:00:39 am I voted in the presidential election by absentee ballot, but when I voted in the primary, I lied to the pollster, and told him that I voted for Huckabee. I would have lied today too, and told them Obama.

I would have lied today too, and told them Obama. Why would you do that? Title: Re: Exit Polling? Post by: Frimp on November 04, 2008, 11:26:00 am Because its no one's business at the polls who I or anyone else voted for.
Title: Re: Exit Polling? Post by: YoFuggedaboutit on November 04, 2008, 11:38:17 am Frimp is right. One of your constitutional rights is the right to a secret ballot.
Luckily, no one asked me who I voted for. If they did, I would've told them that I will not reveal who I voted for. Title: Re: Exit Polling? Post by: MyGodWearsAHoodie on November 04, 2008, 11:49:47 am Frimp is right. One of your constitutional rights is the right to a secret ballot. Luckily, no one asked me who I voted for. If they did, I would've told them that I will not reveal who I voted for. While it is your constitutional right to a secret ballot very few people keep it a secret, sharing their views with friends, spouses, coworkers, the TDMMC community, etc. If a pollster ask me I would tell them who I voted for just like do when others ask me who I voted for. I don't mind sharing my views with people I know. Random pollsters do not fall into that category. Title: Re: Exit Polling? (with the exception of those living in Turkey) Title: Re: Exit Polling? Post by: MaineDolFan on November 04, 2008, 12:07:11 pm Huge difference. We might not be friends but we are a friendly community here on line. There is a large difference between offering your opinion on line and being confronted by someone at the polls. I don't mind offering that opinion on my own terms. I would rather not be asked.
I was asked and declined to answer with one exception - and that was a question on a local school consolidation question. Title: Re: Exit Polling? Post by: Defense54 on November 04, 2008, 12:23:01 pm I was in Uniform right before work so I'm not allowed to share any views.
Couldn't really care anymore at this point. As Long as GW and DICK are gone I'm a happy camper. Title: Re: Exit Polling? Lying about something so trivial is just stupid. Why does it matter? And if its so trivial, why get so serious about it? Title: Re: Exit Polling? Post by: Defense54 on November 04, 2008, 12:28:02 pm How come none of the people working at the Polls are young and Hot? That might get me to open up a bit more........... ::)
Title: Re: Exit Polling? Post by: Phishfan on November 04, 2008, 12:33:16 pm Why does it matter? And if its so trivial, why get so serious about it? Personally it makes me question someone's genuineness to know they told a lie when they can simply decline to say anything at all. That's why. I can respect wanting your opinion to be your own, but why feel the need to lie? Title: Re: Exit Polling? If more people lied, and the pollsters were consistantly wrong, maybe they would keep those annoying pollsters out all together. Title: Re: Exit Polling? It made me wonder..... Did anyone ask you how you voted after you voted? B- Its possible that their poll was just checking how minorities voted. I have a friend who is a writer for a magazine, and they sometimes do polls expressly focusing on one group (women only, minorities only, etc) Title: Re: Exit Polling? If they did, I would've told them that I will not reveal who I voted for. Ironically you have no "Constitutional" right to vote for even the president of the United States. The Constitution never explicitly ensures the right to vote as was ruled on by the Supreme Court during the 2000 elections. Title: Re: Exit Polling? Post by: bsfins on November 04, 2008, 01:10:42 pm Good point Philly,But it doesn't seem like alot of people are being asked by our poll either....My mom wasn't asked at the same polling place when the polls opened at 6 am.....

I read an article that said if McCain wins it would be horrific for the pollsters and the media that declared Obama a shoe in. To be honest I'm gonna be happy either way on this one..........but it would be great to see the media and those Asshole know it all Pollsters eat shit. :D ;D Title: Re: Exit Polling? Or, maybe it would stop the media from calling elections before they are over, and attempting to influence people who might not have voted yet? Title: Re: Exit Polling? Post by: Dave Gray on November 04, 2008, 02:44:13 pm Or, maybe it would stop the media from calling elections before they are over, and attempting to influence people who might not have voted yet? I believe it's against the law for them to release the results of the exit poll numbers until the polls close. Title: Re: Exit Polling? Post by: MyGodWearsAHoodie on November 04, 2008, 02:49:18 pm I believe it's against the law for them to release the results of the exit poll numbers until the polls close. IIRC, it was done as an agreement. Congress was threatening to pass a law banning all releasing of exit polling data until the last poll closed in the last state. Networks were threating to defy and fight in on 1st amendment grounds. The three networks agreed to the current plan to avoid the fights and b/c the current system maximizes viewership as folks watch each state close. Title: Re: Exit Polling? Post by: CF DolFan on November 04, 2008, 02:51:45 pm http://www.thedolphinsmakemecry.com/forums/index.php?topic=12611.30 I'm glad I missed that one!! I read through a couple of pages of the standard know- it- all BS and didn't see the court ruling ... nor do I care to comtinue to look. The Supreme Court of the United States ruled " The individual citizen has no federal constitutional right to vote for electors for the President of the United States," . People can argue until their fingers fall of but it doesn't change the facts. Title: Re: Exit Polling? Post by: MyGodWearsAHoodie on November 04, 2008, 03:20:15 pm Because its no one's business at the polls who I or anyone else voted for. Sarah agrees. Quote Palin refused to say if she had voted to re-elect Republican Sen. Ted Stevens, who was convicted last week of seven felony corruption charges. “I am also exercising my right to privacy, and I don't have to tell anybody who I vote for, nobody does, and that’s really cool about America also,†she said. http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/ Title: Re: Exit Polling? Post by: Phishfan on November 04, 2008, 03:26:32 pm I heard McCain is such a maverick and works so well across party lines that he voted for Obama. :D

Glad to see someone else is educated on this fact, but telling people this causes them to get upset.Title: Re: Exit Polling? Post by: Dave Gray on November 04, 2008, 05:55:33 pm The disconnect we're having with rights is that they don't have to be explicitly stated in order to be constitutionally protected.
Rights can be both implicitly or explicitly be stated by the constitution and both are constitutionally protected. Voting rights are not explicitly stated, but they are very clearly inferred through other statements in regard to not limiting said rights, and thus, guaranteed by the document. |
