Title: Official BCS Title Game Thread
Post by: YoFuggedaboutit on December 11, 2008, 08:48:26 am
Turns out Florida's offensive coordinator just accepted the head coaching job at Mississippi State

http://www.miamiherald.com/605/story/808154.html

This has an eerie feeling to Florida State fans back in 2000

This must be a nightmare for you, Tommy?  The Gators in the title game?

More like back in 2000, the Seminoles offensive coordinator, Mark Richt, accepted the head coaching job at the University of Georgia.  Although in that case he stayed on, his head clearly wasn't in helping the Seminoles prepare for that game.  The result?  One of the best offenses in the nation got shut down in a 13-2 loss.  Who were they playing against?  The Oklahoma Sooners in the Orange Bowl, coached by (you guessed it)  Bob Stoops!!!

Of course it is. Not only have we beaten then 5 consecutive times, but were adding championships on top of it. F$U losing to OU had nothing to do with Richt leaving. It had everything to do with an OU defense led by Roy Wiiliams and a LB who's names escapes me, but he won the MVP. Also, it might have helped if Snoop Minnis had gone to class that semester, instead he flunked out and missed the game. Ohh yeah Tommy before you blow this whole Dan Mullen thing out of porportion, Bo pellini took the Nebraska job after LSU won the SEC title and he coached LSU's defense in the Championship game. How'd that work out?

I didn't realize you played for UF.

Since I've already locked up the win in my Bowl Mania game, I can actually cheer against the pick I made for this game. I selected Oklahoma there, and gave it a confidence rating of 12 (on 1-34 scale). For here though, I'll give the Gators some love and say...

Florida: 42
Oklahoma:  37

Doesn't matter.  The game is a sham.  UT is the national champion.  Call this the title game is a joke.

Your post is a joke.... Utah would get CRUSHED by Florida, Oklahoma and USC.

The BCS may be flawed,  but in this case the 2 best teams in the country are playing for the National Championship tonight.... if you don't like it, tough shit! ;)

And if the NFL was run like the BCS based on the week 17 power ranks last year, the Giants would get crushed by the Colts, Patriots, Cowboys, Greenbay, and Chargers.  The Giants would be lucky to have played in a minor bowl game and the national championship would be Colts vs Patriots or maybe Patriots vs Cowboys.

Until we get a real playoff system, Utah is the national champion cause NOBODY has beaten them.

Florida by 14.

OU has won the toss, and elected to receive.  Shocked they didn't defer, but I guess they want their high powered offense on the field first.

Ron Cherry of the ACC and his crew are officiating.  This gives Oklahoma a slight advantage.

And the UF defense stops OU on its first drive.   Tebow takes over and, after driving halfway, gets picked off by the OU defense.

I wish someone would rip those eye black things off of Tebow and shove them down his throat.

So far, both offenses are moving the ball, but no score.

UF scores the first TD of the game on a reach after a pass by Tebow to Louis Murphy

Title: Re: Official BCS Title Game Thread
Post by: YoFuggedaboutit on January 08, 2009, 09:12:25 pm
OU is on the move.  Two big runs by Patrick puts them on the UF 34

Title: Re: Official BCS Title Game Thread
Post by: YoFuggedaboutit on January 08, 2009, 09:15:07 pm
And OU answers with a quick drive culminating in a TD pass from Bradford to Jermaine Gresham.  After a scoreless 1st quarter, two quick TD's start the 2nd.

Title: Re: Official BCS Title Game Thread
Post by: YoFuggedaboutit on January 08, 2009, 09:24:35 pm
Tebow gets picked off again by Gerald McCoy.  This one is deep in UF territory.

Title: Re: Official BCS Title Game Thread
Post by: YoFuggedaboutit on January 08, 2009, 09:44:12 pm
And after getting to the UF 1, OU gets stuffed on 4th and goal!!!  UF responds with a big run from Harvin out to midfield, but then goes 3 and out.  OU takes over deep in their own territory, but is on the move again as the first half is winding down.

Title: Re: Official BCS Title Game Thread
Post by: YoFuggedaboutit on January 08, 2009, 09:49:58 pm
Bradford gets picked off after the ball gets batted in the air at the goal line.  Two TD's by OU denied tonight by the UF defense, however, OU is outplaying UF on both sides of the ball.

The teams go into the locker room knotted at 7.  UF will get the ball first in the second half.

Title: Re: Official BCS Title Game Thread
Post by: YoFuggedaboutit on January 08, 2009, 11:09:01 pm
And it appeared UF had taken over the game in the 3rd quarter.  They went on a long drive culminating in a TD from Percy Harvin out of the Wildcat Formation, then blocked OU's field goal.  But a key 3 and out by the OU defense, and Bradford hooks up with Jermaine Gresham again for a TD.  It's 14-14 with a little over 12 minutes left in the game.

I must note that OU has missed out on 17 points tonight so far.  Two big goal line stands by the UF defense, plus a blocked field goal.  That might come back to bite them in the ass at the end.

Post by: Dave Gray on January 08, 2009, 11:12:41 pm
It's weird how it seems that either team can move the ball at will, but the score is still low.

It's almost like they aren't trying.

Title: Re: Official BCS Title Game Thread
Post by: YoFuggedaboutit on January 08, 2009, 11:14:06 pm
Harvin just busted out for 63 yards on two carries, but has now left the game after re-injuring that ankle.  Louis Murphy and Chris Rainey have also left the game for UF.

Title: Re: Official BCS Title Game Thread
Post by: YoFuggedaboutit on January 08, 2009, 11:17:32 pm
Harvin and Murphy both re-entered, but the Gators could not capitalize.  They settle for a field goal.

17-14 UF with just over 10 minutes to go.

What a good game...all defensive and I did not expect that...not to mention I didn't expect OU to hang around like they did...congrats to the Gators for winning and congrats to OU for playing a helluva game...is it just me or did it seem like the Tim Tebow/Nic Harris feud all game long?  Harris played a helluva game himself...DRAFT HIM TUNA!!!!

Side Note:  I wanted to punch Bradford in the face by half time...I got so tired of that stupid look on his face every time he looked to the sidelines every damn play...he looked like a retarded Ryan Renolds (Van Wilder).

How do you figure? They beat the crap out of Bama, a team that Florida did not beat convincingly. Utah has a legitimate claim.

UF held "the best offense in the country" to 360 yards. They averaged over 500 per game during the regular season. They were also held to 14 points, when their average points scored during the regular season per game, was over 50. Could Utah have shut them down like that? Um, NO.

Utah would have also been crushed by Alabama had they played in week four or five.  'Bama basically didn't show up, seems that a lot of people forget that a little bit.

USC is the best team in college football, followed by UF.  Either one of those two teams are 21+ points better than Utah.

I can't stand that argument, Maine. Bama got waxed, they didn't get upset at the last moment. Utah controlled that game, convincingly.

^Exactly - and it seemed like Alabama was sleep walking / going through the motions.  They played as though they didn't care.

Alabama suspended their best offensive linemen (LT Andre Smith who is a top 10 projected pick in this years draft) a few days before their bowl game with Utah.... Smith was a HUGE part of the Tide's offense...Smith's loss hurt more than people realize!

Utah is a really good team(top 6 in the nation), but they played against QB John Parker Wilson.... not Tim Tebow, Sam Bradford, the AMAZING USC DEFENSE, or Colt McCoy and the Long Horns!!

The Utes should consider joining the Pac-10 or upgrading their Non-conference schedule if they want to run with the big dogs of the BCS!! ;)

This is exactly why there should be a playoff.  There needn't be discussion of who the champion should be after a season is over.

I don't think there is any real discussion. The only people claiming anything other than Florida as national champions are armchair commentators. Tha AP and BCS both have Florida number one.

Just curious ... is there any poll not picking Florida as number one? Debates about 2-4 in a couple but Florida seems to be the constant consensus.

I don't buy that 'Bama was didn't care about their BCS bowl game.  It's more likely that they wanted to trounce Utah to show the world that their loss to Florida was a fluke.  What's to prevent a "Husky honk" from claiming that the 0-12 Washington Huskies were the best team in the nation and that they just went through the motions this season knowing it was the only way to get their high-profile but grossly overrated coach fired?  Yeah, it looked like they were thoroughly dominated in almost every game but that was their plan.

Keep quiet. We beat alabama by double digits WITHOUT Percy harvin on a neutral field. Of the 13 teams on our schedule, 11 made bowl games. Utah was just squeaking out wins over suspect competition, meanwhile the gators were killing everyone. Ohh yeah who was the only team to beat two number #1 teams in the same year on a neutral field.......umm that would be that gators. Case closed. You're an SEC hater anyway. National champs baby!!!

The current system makes you have to make assumptions.  (which sucks...I'd rather see them play the games.)

But, with the info available, you have to assume that the Gators would stomp a mudhole into Utah.  It's not fair for Utah, I agree...but let's be realistic.
