Title: Are we Getting Change with Obama? Post by: Dphins4me on December 13, 2008, 10:50:12 am Everyone here probably knows I was not an Obama fan, but he is soon to be Pres & I'm wondering about his platform of change. Are we getting it?
From my view point he is bringing in the same old tired ideas that lead to what is currently happening. Career Politicians who are out from themselves & not the country. I'm not going to get into all of them, since that would be a long line, but here are the top 3. Ruan Emanuel - Was on Board of Directors at Freddie Mac when they started lying about their situation. Hillary Clinton - Well known, old politician with the same old view points of 15 Yrs. ago.. Tom Daschle - Former 18 Yr. & Senate Majority Leader who terms were when some of the policies were passed that allowed this economic crisis to happen. My question is. Where is the new blood that will bring change? Are we suppose to believe that these some old people suddenly are going to be for change? The old saying. Actions speaks louder than words, so right now I'm not impressed with his actions. I have a hard time believing he will rule over these people & make them view things differently. This is not an I hate Obama thread. I'm just wondering how others are viewing his nominations, because I'm not seeing the promised changed from his nominations. I have a hard time believing he will rule over these people & make them view things differently. Coming from someone that wouldn't be impressed with his actions even if he were to turn water into wine, this doesn't say a lot. No offense but it's hard to take this all that seriously coming from the source. You were amazingly closed minded about him prior to the election, why should anyone be surprised that stance hasn't changed now? Title: Re: Are we Getting Change with Obama? I voted for Obama expecting a left of center but moderate approach with a fair number of Clinton appointment retreads. I am a little disappointed that we are not seeing a few more true progressives and "Dean Democrats." While I would welcome Ralph Nader as head of the EPA or Consumer protection and it would be more change I am not surprised it isn't happening. I am sorry that you are disappointed that Obama is providing the "change" that GOPAC was claiming would occur. But he has not gone back on his promises. Title: Re: Are we Getting Change with Obama? No offense but it's hard to take this all that seriously coming from the source. You were amazingly closed minded about him prior to the election, why should anyone be surprised that stance hasn't changed now? Amazingly? No stretch there. ::) First off, there is nothing closed minded about me. ( If I were closed minded, then I'd be here saying there was a link between Obama & the Gov. of Ill, & that it proves Obama is just as dirty as all the rest, but I'm not nor do I believe there is a link. )I'm not against Obama, because I'm one of the few who might have actually voted for something different than what we have had running this country for the last hundred years. However, I am hoping he goes down as a great Pres. Second & I do want to emphasize thanks for making it about me & the post afterward followed your lead. Being a Mod I would think you would understand the difference between addressing the post & not the poster. This was suppose to be about his nominations & not what I thought about Obama's politics prior to the election. I was just expecting some new blood here with different ideas. I was hoping to see how others were feeling about the nominations. Title: Re: Are we Getting Change with Obama? Post by: Dphins4me on December 13, 2008, 01:26:55 pm Who do you expect him to pick? Do they still expect all this change from him? yes, I am still expecting incremental change. I have already seen a huge change. His vetting process and requirements about not working and lobbying on the same issues. Furthermore unlike Bush, the Gov of Ill or many others his appointments are not based on political favors but actual competence. Not having a FEMA director who got the job because he was successful fundraiser for the campaign is change I can believe in. Title: Re: Are we Getting Change with Obama? I was recently talking with a changemonger and of course all he could say was "Obama is going to change it!" Couldn't tell me WHAT Obama was going to change though. Obama is not a dumb man & I know he knows everything you said will happen.Personally I'm really not concerned with things like these. I've heard the 10 Yr plans on most of this type stuff & anyone who knows anything about politics knows about a Pres. & their 10 Yr plans. All the drastic changes take place in Yrs. 9 & 10 when they are no longer in office, so I do not pay any attention to anything that is attached to a 10+ Yr. plan. Title: Re: Are we Getting Change with Obama? Post by: Dave Gray on December 13, 2008, 01:54:04 pm Hey Dphins,
Thanks for a good question. It's too early to tell, obviously. However, I think that change comes from a paradigm shift and leadership, not necessarily the people you have in there to carry things out. I also don't think that change is a lightswitch. Change isn't a decision you make. I think it's a new direction that will take decades (and more than one president) to realize, but Obama has to opportunity to point us to a new place. It's really the job of the US citizens and future leadership to make sure we stay on that path. Also, I think that we're already seeing change in Obama's cabinet, in that he's not choosing "cronies". He's not picking a bunch of "yes men" or those that share his ideas on everything. He is welcoming debate into his cabinet, as he feels that it's healthy towards good decision-making. Personally, I do wish we'd see a little more of what the right would call "radical liberalism" in the cabinet, and what we're seeing now is more moderate choices. But again, it's way too early to tell, and with the state of our nation how it is, before he delivers change of any kind, I think his priority is restoring order first. My bad. For me being against something does not mean I do not get behind it, if it chosen. I might not have thought it was the best path, but again that does not mean I do not support it now. I was asking a simple question of how people were viewing the selection of the same old policies makers that have been in power before & lead us down the wrong path & were my expectations wrong, but its obvious the only reason you are here is so you can attack me for some reason known only to yourself. Now, to address your obvious total juvenile post. Either address the post in the thread or skip over it if the only thing you have to add is personal insults & attacks. In two post in this thread you have YET to address anything about the topic & are only here to derail the thread into a personal attack upon me. Why I'm not sure. What a total hypocrite you are & that joke of a post at the top of the "Other Sports Talk" needs to be deleted. If you have anything further to address me with, please address it in a PM. Try acting ( if possible )like a mature man & not a 7 Yr old who is upset over not getting a piece of candy. Title: Re: Are we Getting Change with Obama? What changes are you expecting & does the economy change what you thought prior to the collapse. I did expect moderate choices, because if Obama goes too left I think it will kill his re-election chances, since he had to come right to get elected. I didn't do that. Calling someone out on something is not a personal attack nor is it immature.
The fact of the matter is that I think you bring a ton of valid points and well thought out conversations to the board. I also think that when people call you on something you don't take that well. I didn't insult you, attack you nor was I immature. I pointed out something factual which, in MY OPINION (something I actually get to express whether you like it or not) - having YOU, of all people, complain about Obama is a joke. You created that bed all by yourself with your blatant one sided view of things and constant shit stirring prior to the election. It's impossible for you to be impartial and objective on this subject. Trying to silence a voice on here that is calling you out on your bullshit because I am a mod is ridiculous. Say it with me one time - MODERATORS ARE ALLOWED TO HAVE OPINIONS AS WELL. I *WAS* sticking to the point of the thread by saying, again, you making commentary on this is like getting an opinion on a steak from a vegan. What in the world would a vegan think of a steak? So my direct answer to your question is yes, I believe he is making positive changes. And I also believe that he could appoint the most random person under the sun to a post and it wouldn't matter to people that have opposed him all along. If Obama goes right, it should have been left. Left should have been right. Title: Re: Are we Getting Change with Obama? Post by: Dphins4me on December 14, 2008, 12:57:37 pm I agree it's getting old people bitching about conspiracy, and Mods not allowed to have an opinion here at TDMMC.... No one said he could not have an opinion on the subject. I invited opinions. I do want to point that out. Being a mod yourself, you had an opinion on my question & voiced it & no one said anything about you voicing it. I'm not upset that you voiced yours & replied back to each other a time or time discussing it. I did not attack your views to say I'm right & you are wrong. I simply expected something different & was not believing I was seeing it. My point is his first two replies had nothing to do with the subject. My view points prior to the election have nothing to do with this. I was not here on election night claiming the world was coming to an end. I do not believe I have ever insulted Obama. I've questioned a few things, but never had I said he was a bad person or the anti-Christ as the Email says.. I disagree with his politics, but now that he is elected I'm not a little child that is going to run out & pout in a corner because I did not get my way & try to tie him to everything that goes wrong even something as close as the Gov. of Ill.. The difference is his opinion is about my view points prior to the election & how he did not believe I was capable of being objective towards Obama. The only thing I truly have against Obama is the robbed from the rich to give to the poor politics. I do not like our tax system being used to buy votes. Its wrong, either way. That is what bothers me, was that he wanted to make this about me & not my question about how was everyone else feeling about the nominations. I've also said some of the view points were things I've not thought of. So this was not about arguing view points, but simply were they happy & was I wrong in not liking the old guard being nominated. Title: Re: Are we Getting Change with Obama? No one in their 1st reply & especially a Mod should start by addressing the poster & 100% forgetting about the topic. He could have simply replied to my question & then ask me if I felt like I was being fair to Obama. However, that is not how it was done.maine's comment was not out of line and was actually a politer way of saying the same thing I said about it being people who feared Ayers as a being part of the admin as being the same ones to bitch about not enough change. Show me one comment from him about the subject in his reply.. Just one. That is all I'll ask you. I preferred your comment, because at least it was about the subject & not about me.Title: Re: Are we Getting Change with Obama? Post by: Frimp on December 14, 2008, 01:09:30 pm Yeah because the auot industry is so financially healthy and businesses are not cutting back and laying off people now, it will all happen once he gets sworn in. As usual, you totally missed my point. Its happening now, yes. But it isn't because people aren't buying cars. You don't see Toyota, and Nissan begging for bailouts. They are doing fine. WHat's the difference? Well, Toyota and Nissan don't have unions for one. That wasn't the point of my post. The point is that there are more than likely going to be ridiculous emissions standards that will make it even harder for the auto industries to meet. That will hurt the big three even more, and it will hurt Nissan and Toyota too. Just wait until the big three get their bailout, and the government takes control of the industry. Think its screwed up now? Just wait until Govco gets its hands on it. And, there will be nothing they can do about either thanks to their new 'partner.' And, I wasn't just grabbing the auto industry as the sole concern. It was simply an example...hence my words "For example." I myself was wondering if the people who voted for Obama will be satisfied with the 'change' or lack there of that there may or may not be. Title: Re: Are we Getting Change with Obama? I do not believe I belittle anyone for their view points. If I did, then someone please show me where. However, something missed on you was there was no bitching from me about Obama winning. I'm just taking steps towards him since he is now the future Pres. As I've said prior. I hope he goes down as a great Pres. It is really important that he is. I never said you did, nor have I said that your points against the man's policies are wrong. Don't take what I'm saying out of context. I'm not offering an opinion on that. What I am saying is that it's hard to take these questions at face value from someone generally opposed to Obama in the first place. In regards to "the old guard" I think it's important to realize that Obama is the change and filling his posts with rivals that don't see eye to eye with him is a progressive move. I'm not sure what you were expecting, perhaps a McCain-ish appointment to an important post, but I feel that these are positive changes. He isn't filling his room with "yes" men or women. I also think that change doesn't have to mean "brand new people we've never heard of." A GOP candidate that would have been able to run successfully on change, and would have had my support, is Huckabee. And he is certainly part of that "old guard."
