Title: SNF Flexgame is DEN @ SD
Post by: Spider-Dan on December 21, 2008, 08:34:41 pm
One of the only chances I have this year to see MIA play live is ruined because the idiot Jets can't beat SEA.

that's a dumb flex-game

miami vs. jets would be much higher ratings with the new york audience tuned in

nothing better than seeing an 8-7 team face a 7-8 team.

I don't see Denver winning that one. I think they get squashed. Not going to be a good game.

NBC and MSNBC both had "teams to be determined" so where is this information coming from?

I am calling bullshit on this thread until I see it here:

That's what happens when you pay attention.

That's pretty fucked up.  Not only are they throwing away TV ratings, but now the game won't be on live TV in a lot of places, including Central Florida.

Sorry Doc, we can't have a get together.

FUCK YOU NBC!!!!!!!

Does the NFL have total say over the flex in week 17, or can the two networks still protect one game each.

Both networks will show doubleheaders on the last week of the season, but remember the NFL rules about TV markets.  The Jaguars hold exclusive rights over Orlando, so if the Dolphins and the Jaguars are on at the same time, we'll be seeing the Jaguars.

Our only chance is if they flex the Dolphins game or Jaguars game to 4:15.

Doctor D likes to have them at his house.  62 inch plasma TV, surround sound, solaire heat grill, my cooking skills on display, cold beer in the fridge..... NUFF SAID.

Besides, I've got stuff going on earlier that day.

Chargers, Broncos will play for AFC West crown on Sunday night

NFL.com

With the AFC West title on the line next Sunday, the Week 17 Broncos-Chargers matchup has been moved to 8:15 p.m. ET and will air on NBC as part of flex scheduling.

The NFL utilizes “flexible scheduling” on Sundays in Weeks 11-17. Flexible scheduling ensures quality matchups in all NFL Sunday time slots in those weeks and gives teams a chance to play their way onto primetime and into the late-afternoon 4:15 p.m. ET time slot on CBS and FOX.

...one of which was, apparently, posting to an internet forum to call "bullshit" on a person who was watching the game.

It's one thing to ask for my source (I happily would have told you).  Next time you call "bullshit," try that simple step first.  It can help to avoid making yourself look like an idiot.

God, this really makes me sick.

I'm sorry, but I think this was a bad, bad call here.  I'm sure you guys agree, but yeah...this really pisses me off.  I don't know if you guys already saw this or not, either, but on the BottomLine, they were already showin' the lines for some of the games and, yeap...we're definitely still in the midst of the logjam that is the 1:00 EST games on Sunday.  Living in North Alabama, I'm sure I'll get the shitshow that'll be the Indy--Tennessee game then so I'll be forced to go to a bar/BWW/Wings to watch this game too.  SHIIITTTT!!!

Thank you.....

It was a very good choice.  It is the only game where BOTH teams control their own destiny and are in lose and go home mode.

Choices

STL @ ATL -  St is out of it.
JAC @ BAL  - jax is out of it
NE @ BUF - bills are out of it
KC @ CIN - both are out of it
DET @ GB - both are out it
CHI @ HOU - both are out of it
TEN @ IND  - both have clinched and can not improve
NYG @ MIN - NYG have clinched and can not improve
CAR @ NO - NO is out of it
MIA @ NYJ - if it is the last game of the day Jets might be out of it
DAL @ PHI -not sure that could be the fight for the last wild card (I don't follow NFC closely)
CLE @ PIT -cle out, Pit has clinched bye can't get homefield
OAK @ TB - oakland out
SEA @ ARI - sea out, ari clinched
WAS @ SF - both teams are out
DEN @ SD -BATTLE FOR DIVISION!

They made the right choice.

The source was asked for twice before I posted bullshit.  Once by Fau and once by me before I could not find anything and came back and edited my post.  I am not an idiot but you just made yourself one.

This is without question the correct flex game choice in this "winner-take-all" situation. The MIA @ NYJ game is NOT a winner take all situation, as the Jets victory does not clinch them the division. DEN @ SD, while terrible that one of these ridiculously bad teams get to host a playoff game, is the best game of the week due to what is at stake.

The Dolphins/Jets game got flexed into a 4:15 start and will likley be a nationally broadcast game in that time slot.

Stay tuned.

Yes.
We both have better things to do than pointlessly argue so have a great day!

That choice I don't agree with and goes against the NFL week 17 policy of scheduling week 17 to maintain the integrity of the game.  NE-Bills and Fins - Jets should have been in the same time slot, instead of the Jets knowing the outcome of the NE game prior to the Jets - Fins game.  Both a 4:15, both at 1.  Either would have been okay.

If the Patriots lose, the game becomes winner-take-all.  If they win, the Jets lose motivation?

Is that what you're worried about?

no .. he's paranoid about what every NE fan is paranoid about .. that if the patriots win that Mangina will try to stick it to the patriots and throw the game just to spite billy B

I am not worried about the first half.  But yes the second half.

Well, if they have no hope of making it to the playoffs, and the Jets winning will only propel his arch-enemy into the postseason, I gotta say, I think I'd do the same thing.

Not complaining...

I think Mangina wants to win this game very badly, regardless of whether they have a playoff shot or not. No coach in football is sitting on a seat as hot as his, and an impressive win over Miami to end the regular season would not only leave a favorable last impression in the minds of the Jets front office folks as they decide whether to axe him or not, but also in the minds of any other NFL GM/Prez out there that might be looking to hire a new HC this offseason.

I could see two reasons why Mangini would want to throw the game.

1) He hates BB.

2) If he was opposed to trading for Favre and cutting Penny, but was overruled by the FO, a loss to Chad would prove him right.  (I had heard some rumors at the time of the trade he opposed it.  But they were never confirmed)
