Title: Marine Color guard doesn't get to watch the SB Post by: MyGodWearsAHoodie on January 23, 2009, 08:36:30 am I was temped to stick this in the politics section because well, I know it is gonna turn into a politics discussion. But it involves the NFL so I stuck it here, if the mods want to move it they know how.
I was quite disappointed to learn that the Marine Color Guard doesn't get to watch the SB. Do the pregame show, then get the ef out. What the? Thats like inviting someone over to say grace at Thanksgiving but not letting them stay for the meal. http://thunderrun.blogspot.com/2009/01/are-you-ready-to-get-angry.html Title: Re: Marine Color guard doesn't get to watch the SB Post by: Phishfan on January 23, 2009, 08:57:09 am I don't think this should be a political discussion at all. This is a decision by the NFL and it is dumb as hell. At first I thought Goddell would be good for the NFL but the longer he stays the more I dislike him.

They are the real Stars.......more so then any NFL player. >:(Title: Re: Marine Color guard doesn't get to watch the SB Post by: Frimp on January 23, 2009, 11:58:46 am I'm calling for Goodell's impeachment immediately!
That is bull shit. Title: Re: Marine Color guard doesn't get to watch the SB Post by: YoFuggedaboutit on January 23, 2009, 01:07:55 pm ^^^^^
After the way Goodell handled Spygate, my opinion of him is now the same as my opinion of George W. Bush. Title: Re: Marine Color guard doesn't get to watch the SB Post by: MyGodWearsAHoodie on January 23, 2009, 02:45:54 pm ^^^^^ After the way Goodell handled Spygate, my opinion of him is now the same as my opinion of George W. Bush. Hmm we agree. I thought Goodell's handling of it was horrible. Title: Re: Marine Color guard doesn't get to watch the SB Post by: Sunstroke on January 23, 2009, 02:54:18 pm I would be interested in knowing whether or not "other pregame entertainment" at "other super bowls" were required to leave afterwards as well. I doubt this has anything to do at all with it being a military color guard, and think it is probably just the policy of the super bowl management for all pregame entertainers. Hmm we agree. I thought Goodell's handling of it was horrible. As easily as Goodell let the Patriots off the hook, I'd have thought you would have a picture of the Commish inside a heart tattooed on your left ass cheek. Title: Re: Marine Color guard doesn't get to watch the SB Post by: MyGodWearsAHoodie on January 23, 2009, 03:03:32 pm good news they get to stay.
Bunches of people wrote to Florio. Florio followed up with the NFL. NFL said that was always our policy we ain't changing it. NFL realized this was bad PR NFL reversed its self, color guard stays. http://www.profootballtalk.com/2009/01/23/nfl-changes-course-on-color-guard-issue/ Title: Re: Marine Color guard doesn't get to watch the SB Post by: Frimp on January 23, 2009, 03:32:24 pm ^^^
Good. Title: Re: Marine Color guard doesn't get to watch the SB Post by: Phishfan on January 23, 2009, 03:36:09 pm I would be interested in knowing whether or not "other pregame entertainment" at "other super bowls" were required to leave afterwards as well. I wouldn't use the same terminology to describe the color guard though. Pregame entertainment makes me think of something much different. Regardless if other color guards were allowed to stay or not it is a bad move. These are invited guests and should be given a seat. If they had been given this same treatment in the past I would have felt the same way. Title: Re: Marine Color guard doesn't get to watch the SB Post by: Sunstroke on January 23, 2009, 04:49:45 pm ^^^ and I didn't say that I wouldn't, I was just trying to establish the historical "way it is" in regards to those who take part in super bowl pregame festivities. I won't cut them out of the "entertainment" group though, because despite any uniforms they may be wearing, they are there in the pregame, performing drill and ceremony as emotional kindling before the main event to get the fans feeling patriotic...and that makes them entertainers. Yea, they don't really deserve to be in the entertainment group because they entertain nobody, and if they weren't "performing" nobody would miss them. So now that Ronnie Brown is done for the season, you have to find something negative to say about those who serve. Life's tough for you right now eh Title: Re: Marine Color guard doesn't get to watch the SB Post by: Fred Finstoned on January 25, 2009, 10:27:51 am It seems to me I see them hanging the outskirts of the field during regular season games?I very glad to see them get to stay!
Tepop did you ever serve? Its hard to sign your name to a piece of paper that says your willing to give your life to protect the rights of people you don't even know, so they can sit around and type silly shit on their computer all day. Title: Re: Marine Color guard doesn't get to watch the SB Post by: Sunstroke on January 25, 2009, 10:41:08 am ^^^ I can't speak for any other member of the military, either former or current, but when I was in, I thought we were fighting so that US citizens could say anything they wanted to...freely. Title: Re: Marine Color guard doesn't get to watch the SB Post by: Fred Finstoned on January 25, 2009, 11:39:25 am Sorry, thats basically what I was trying to say.It didn't come off the way I had intended it to.(still on first cup of coffee) :P

I am shocked by the crassness of tepops statement. I like the tradition of the national anthem at the beginning of the game and would be disappointed to see it gone. I really don't understand how one can be anti-troops. Anti-war, oppose the commander and chief's decisions, our foreign policy absolutely. But the individual servicemen no. Title: Re: Marine Color guard doesn't get to watch the SB Post by: run_to_win on January 27, 2009, 11:41:37 pm Now the NFL looks stupid and weak.
Smart decision though. http://www.profootballtalk.com/2009/01/23/nfl-changes-course-on-color-guard-issue/ Where are the PFT bigots?Title: Re: Marine Color guard doesn't get to watch the SB Post by: run_to_win on January 27, 2009, 11:47:20 pm Yea, they don't really deserve to be in the entertainment group because they entertain nobody, and if they weren't "performing" nobody would miss them. I think your statement is a bit broad. I think a minority of people would notice that they were missing. I'm not sure how the fact that not all of us are entertained by the color guard is an insult to men who serve. |
