I don't really watch Super Bowl halftime shows to be honest.  At that point, I'm cooking up more goodies.  You can't really take a break during the Super Bowl because you'll miss the good commercials.

I'll probably watch Bruce Springsteen this year, but most years I just watch the puppy bowl on animal planet during halftime.

The funny thing is,is that all the young freaks that the network hires to run down and surround the stage and jump around and dance and act like they love whoever is on stage probably have never heard of Bruce Springsteen and couldn't pick him out onstage.
Halftime shows as a rule have become stupid and lame, but I gotta give props to the Stones a couple years ago,Mick is in really good shape for a guy his age and put on a great show.

Springsteen is about 60, but he'll put on a good show with the energy of a guy half his age. I first saw him live in 1980 at the Hollywood Sportatorium when he was touring for the River album, but "Rosalita" was always big at the mixers (dances) in the mid 70's while I was in college.

And you're right...most of the kids dancing around him on the field will have hardly heard of him, but all the boomers in the corporate seats will be singing along if he plays his old stuff.

You know, in the Super Bowl with the Ravens and Giants, the half time show was pretty cool. It was Aerosmith, NSYNC, and Britney Spears. The interaction was cool, and it was fun. I can't believe it, but I actually enjoyed it...until Nelly came out. He didn't fit at all.

Actually, the half time show was better than that Super Bowl.  ;D

What I meant was that Nelly didnt fit as in what was going on. The interaction between Aerosmith, NSYNC, and Spears was really cool. Nelly seemed that guy who is slow, and adds a comment to a discussion that a group had 2 discussions prior. I can't stand NSYNC and Britney Spears, but they made for a good halftime show with Aerosmith. Thats all I was saying. ;D

Giants - Ravens, 1st SB after 9/11.  U2 did the half time show and during "One" they had to tapestries shaped like the Twin Towers with the names of the deceased scrolling up towards the sky.  Bono opened his coat at the end of the song to show an American flag.

Best.half.time.ever.

I made some corrections to your post, Maine.  I hope you don't mind.  ;D

Yeah, how did I forget that one? But, they played Where The Streets Have No Name" and Tommy is right. It was Rams/Patriots

^^  I agree that's a hard act to follow.   Travis Tritt and Tom Petty Kicked ass as well.  I wish Eddie Van Halen would get his drunken ass together. The original Lineup or even Van Hagar would make a great Superbowl  1/2 Time.

Van Halen or Kiss. But, I bet we see Journey do one before VH or Kiss though.

Uuuugh. Your probably right.   I hope they give us Miami Fans some quality entertainment in a few seasons when we take it...........

Honorable Mention: Prince kicked some ass a few years back in the pouring Rain.  ;)

I'm with Tommy, I don't watch the halftime show. Actually I don't think I remember ever watching it. Yeah, I even missed the boob flash from Janet, but hey, that's why we have You Tube!

Bruce Springsteen is one of those artists that I just kind of like.  I thought his halftime show was entertaining.  I especially enjoyed all the real fans of his down on the field instead of a bunch of kids who did not know or care.  I did spot one guy in aqua and orange!

Prince was pretty damned good, wasn't he?

Am I the only one that re-wound 100 times and laughed my ass off when the Boss slid his junk 30mph into the camera?

I am probably a bit biased to the Tom Petty performance because he was my favorite artists of the entertainers I can remember. I had forgotten about Prince until someone brought him up. That was a good show indeed. I think The Boss was very entertainins and thought the Stones were the worst act I have ever seen. I don;t understand how anyone cannot watch the halftime shows. I look forward to that almost as much as the game usually.

I thought Faith Hill and Jennifer Hudson sang beautifully before the game.

I thought Hudson sang the second best National Anthemn...next to Whitney Houston.

I really liked McCartney.

I am not a big fan of Springsteen, but I like the single artist much more than the montage.  I don't like it when they mix Aerosmith and Brittney Spears or Timberlake and Janet Jackson.  I'd rather just give one artist 12 minutes to do their thing, whether I like them or not.

Prince, McCartney were both good.  Springsteen too.  I hope they keep with this trend.

We need to change this statement to lip synched.

It was still her voice.  Whitney did the same thing.

They do it every year.  It's the NFL's decision, not the performer.  She was on Idol.  She is the real deal.

Prince was bad ass.

Prince will be hard to beat. Finishing off with Purple Rain, in the rain, while a tech guy held the power cable into the socket to ensure the show went on.

The Backstreet Boys at Halftime of the pro bowl was great in 2006.

When Kevin came out to do the keyboard introduction for "Incomplete", everyone was booing, however, when they finished "Everybody" the whole place was roaring.

It sounds like a  sick joke now, but in 1993 the Halftime show consisted of Michael Jackson and 3500 local children from LA.

And the worst halftime shows ever involved the execrable saccharine sweet group Up with People, who sang in 1976, 1980, and 1982. Too awful to be believed.

^^^ They also performed in '86 at the Bears/Pats SB. The only reason I know that is because it was a trivia question during the pregame.

sorry, but I love them, and I'm not ashamed to admit it.

there are two kinds of people in the world:

1) Those who like the Backstreet boys and aren't ashamed about it

2) Those who like the Backstreet boys but pretend not to in order to seem "manly"

you clearly are the second type  :P

Funny, funny stuff.  Good for you that you have the stones to admit it.

Well, don't worry about seeing anyone female or below the age of 75 performing the halftime show, apparently.  MTV will never set foot on a SB field again.

Nothing to do with manly. I addmitted here first that Prince was GREAT. Not exactly a Mans man. I also dig Elton John , I've even said that George micheal is a great vocalist.  At Freddy Mercury's Tribute he was by far the best Vocalist there.

As a muscian I think the back SBoys suck. they come from the ingredients of Find 5 pretty faces , teach them dance moves, Pour and shake and Hype the hell out it on MTV.

I think there are many Many more talented people out there but in this information /video/TV age  they pick Pretty over talented to sell crap. They are the KINGS of it.

Back Street Boys--the Keanu Reeves of the record industry.
