Title: I love this story about Matt Millen
Post by: Frimp on February 03, 2009, 07:22:33 pm

The Detroit affiliate of NBC flashed disclaimers about Millen during his Super Bowl commentary.  ;D

I have no freaking idea what the hell he was doing there.

I would rather hear Dungy or Parcells, or Belichick or Caughlin then Millen, Cameron, or Rust analysis what is necessary to win the superbowl.

^^^

For a few weeks after Wanny left Miami, he was a commentator on a couple games. It was disgusting.

Did you read the article?

Because his role in the booth was to tell us what the Steelers and Cards need to do to win the superbowl.  It is pretty obvious he hasn't a clue how to win a game in the NFL, hence the 0-16 record.

What Caughlin thinks the Cards needs to do to pull out an upset, interests me.  What Belichick thinks the Steelers needs to do defeat Warner, interests me.  What a guy who went 0-16 thinks about football, not so much.

The big deal is that Millen no longer has any credibility.  This man WAS responsible for the first ever team to go 0-16.  How can you offer any sort of "analysis" when all you put on the field during your time in a front office was total crap?  Matt Millen should be banned from television.  Matt Millen giving analysis on football games is like asking Michael Vick on how to properly care for a dog.

At least he got the boot halfway through the season so he technically didn't lose all sixteen.  This must be what he tells himself at night.  The only time I want to see Matt Millen is in old NFL Films stuff from when he was playing.

Like a pitcher in baseball, all 16 losses go against his ERA...his official tenure won't reflect the 0-16 record, but he built the 2008 Lions and managed them.

I especially liked this clip from the article:

He will forever be Matt Millen, though, and the name Matt Millen will forever be synonymous with losing. I've written about this before, and I don't think that being an absolute train wreck of a general manager means that Matt Millen couldn't also be a good analyst.

At the same time, of course, I also couldn't blame anyone in Detroit if they held a grudge against Millen for the next, oh, 1,000 years or so. I'll readily admit that if he did that kind of a hatchet job on my favorite team, I'd have no interest in ever hearing any ignorant word that ever came out of his mouth.

Same way I feel about Wanny.  He might get a TV job after he decides to quit coaching, and he might do very well.  But I will forever link him with taking a franchise that was talented enough to win a Super Bowl and running it into the ground.

While I agree with the assessment that Millen's opinion isn't all that valuable, I still think it was pretty unprofessional of that NBC team.

I think that was the local affiliates way of saying, "don't bombard our switchboard with calls to bitch and moan we think it is pathetic too, but it is out of our hands."

Sounds to me like you want him punished for some reason. Do you really think that all of the announcers out there come up with there own drival? they are reading off a tele prompter bro. He can read as well as anyone.

Matt Millen giving analysis on football games is like asking Emmitt Smith to be a public speaker.

Oh, wait...

If you want to look at it that way, that's fine.  However, my main point when it comes to hiring a guy like Matt Millen is about credibility.  How seriously can NFL fans take the "analysis" of a football game from a guy who managed to make the Detroit Lions more inept than they were before he arrived?  The answer, you can't.  Seriously?  How could possibly take stock in anything Matt Millen says ever again?

Technically he managed them...kinda like Ken Lay managed Enron.  I'm not sure why Matt Millen is such a dickhole other than building an 0-16 team.  Any suggestions?

Dickhole?  No.  Completely clueless moron?  Absolutely.

I am a freaking genius...Want to turn your team around? Hire Matt Millen, and ask him what he would do...Then do the opposite.  ;D
