Who really gives a crap about this?  Ricky Williams got torn up over it -- is Phelps going to get the same treatment?

I couldn't give a shit..........but you gotta say WTF?  I mean, of all the guys right now who compete in Swimming everywhere what are the odds that they will make any money from it, let alone hit the jackpot like Phelps?   His Lungs and his image are his Ticket. Who gives a fuck what we or anyone thinks........but all those endorsement deals surely do. Why not just not be a moron for a few years and Bank it? You couldn't refrain from smoking pot for $50 Million? The guy is a fucking swimmer! He's not a Pro ball player. What a dolt.........

But I'd guess the thinking is what good is it to be SUPER filthy rich, when you can still be REGULAR filthy rich and live the way you want to?

Correct me if I am wrong but this story is days old and the only reports I have heard are that his sponsors have not been dropping him. Olympic athletes typically fall out of the limelight quicker than other athletes. I don't think he has too many more deal coming in the near future and his old ones haven't dropped him. I don't see his wallet hurting at all.

I've heard the sheriff wants to lock him up.

I call BS and hypocrisy if sponsors don't dop his ass (and apparently haven't). The golden boy is forgiven.

FYI - All three of the last three Presidents of the United States have admitted to experimenting with illegal drugs as a youth, with the two most recent admitting to stuff way more serious than pot.

He already cashed in,this popped up at the most opportune time when he can disappear for the next three years till the trials  for the next Olympics come back around....I can't imagine too many people getting into a tizzy about it now....

This goes under the subject of "Who fucking cares?"  I could have told you back when he was winning his medals that he probably smokes pot...just look at his demeanor.  Do what you want Phelps.

I never smoked it in my life, but I am fine with legalizing it. That being said, you have to be smarter than that when you have a VERY short career lifespan, and thus a limited time to make your fortune. He just pissed away about $10 Million in quick endorsements. He will now have to wait another 4 years until he wins another 9 gold medals and his image is rehabilitated.

It sucks to have to live in a Mormon-like bubble, but he knew the situation. He is not a victim.

I don't feel sorry for him.  He already made a shit ton of money...boo hoo he doesn't get to make a shit ton more.  Hard to feel bad for millionaires.

For the record, Ricky Williams got tore up for quitting his job in an untimely manner in favor of pot.  Not for smoking to begin with.

Image is everything in his line of work... and perception is reality.

Michael's been suspended from competitive swimming, not that it probably matters right now, and sponsors are starting to drop him.

(CNN) — Olympic hero Michael Phelps was suspended from competitive swimming for three months on Thursday — just hours after one of his sponsors announced it would not renew his contract after a photo surfaced of him smoking from a bong.

U.S.A. Swimming, the nation’s governing body for competitive swimming, said it was withdrawing financial support for Phelps and barring him from competition during the period of his “reprimand.”

“This is not a situation where any anti-doping rule was violated, but we decided to send a strong message to Michael because he disappointed so many people, particularly the hundreds of thousands of USA Swimming member kids who look up to him as a role model and a hero,” the body said in a written statement. “Michael has voluntarily accepted this reprimand and has committed to earn back our trust.”

(CNN) — Kellogg Company has decided not to renew the contract of Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps after a photograph of the multi-gold-medal winner smoking from a bong surfaced, the company said.

“Michael’s most recent behavior is not consistent with the image of Kellogg,” company spokeswoman Susanne Norwitz said. “His contract expires at the end of February, and we have made a decision not to extend his contract.”

Phelps made no immediate comment on the action by Kellogg.

Phelps admitted “regrettable behavior” on Sunday after a British newspaper published the photograph. The tabloid News of the World showed Phelps using the bong during what it said was a November party at the University of South Carolina in Columbia.

If you've got the juice, you can do what you want. 

Legalizing pot is a baaaaadddd idea because the government will have all twenty of it's greedy little fingers and toes in the mix.

Are you having trouble acquiring it right now? Shit, I have never smoked in my life but I have bought a few bags for my friends who do. Legalized by the government means that they will make the price insanely high and far less potent. Think about what they did to cigarettes with the chemicals and everything. A pack costs $9.75 in NY right now. I imagine a dimebag will be increased to $40 a bag.

Kelloggs didn't drop him, they just aren't going to renew his contract when it is up.  What are the chances that they weren't going to renew his contract before this.  Probably pretty high considering that he will pretty much be a nobody for the next 3 years until the olympics.  Kelloggs is just being fucking dumb, and making a huge statement about not renewing his contract is just a ploy for them to get in the news.  Seriously who knew that Michael Phelps was endorsed by Kelloggs before this.

The fact that you won't even admit that this hurt his career shows your bias.
