Title: Draft/Combine/Prospective NFLer's talk Post by: bsfins on February 23, 2009, 02:08:21 pm I'm reading in Peter Kings Monday morning QB,and he's talking about the QB Staford....And To me,it sounds amazingly familar to what I remember people talking about J.P. Losman (except losman is athletic)
Anyone have any thoughts on Crabtree, being 2 inches shorter than stated by his college? Title: Re: Draft/Combine/Prospective NFLer's talk Post by: StL FinFan on February 23, 2009, 03:06:37 pm I watched the track meet, I mean combine yesterday. To me, no one person really stood out from the rest.
I was proud of J-Mac. He had a good combine. I love to hear a reciever talk about sucking it up and playing. I don't think Crabtree will be hurt so much by the height thing as by the injury. He won't drop much if at all. Title: Re: Draft/Combine/Prospective NFLer's talk Post by: Sunstroke on February 24, 2009, 10:23:08 am I watched the Combine, but not quite as closely as I have in years past. Just too busy with basketball and baseball prep, I guess... I do hope the injury drops Crabtree a little bit (say, to SF with the 10th pick maybe?), but doubt that it will. Title: Re: Draft/Combine/Prospective NFLer's talk Post by: Sunstroke on February 24, 2009, 01:47:07 pm I was reading an article by Jeff MacGregor on ESPN.com, and the last paragraph really stuck in my head. It stuck there because it paralleled one of the biggest follies of mankind, imo...the need for humans to apply labels to everything. The need to sort things...people, intangibles, everything, into categories based on whichever element of that thing seems the most defining.
The full article is here: http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=macgregor/090223 (http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=macgregor/090223) The last paragraph: "We put the world in boxes and give the boxes a name. Good, better, best; fast, faster, fastest; cornerback, quarterback, best supporting actor; family, tribe, nation; Christian, Muslim, Jew. Us. Them. All the confusions of the world sorted neatly into boxes. But into which box do we sort passion? What yardstick measures character? Which scale weighs bravery and which weighs faith? What's the algorithm for friendship? What's the calculus for love or empathy or fear? What's the formula for hate? Which of our instruments, which of our tests, reckons the limitless mystery of the human heart?" Title: Re: Draft/Combine/Prospective NFLer's talk Post by: Phishfan on February 24, 2009, 05:33:08 pm I hate labels. That aside, I have only gotten snippets of the combine. I'm just not feeling it as much this year because partly what MacGregor said. I know some of these great talents these guys are evaluating are going to be crap in the NFL and others who didn't even attend the combine will make a name for themselves. I just hope the Dolphins select the right ones.
