Title: New NFL team Stadium approved for LA.............
Post by: Defense54 on February 26, 2009, 06:42:03 pm

32 Teams is ENOUGH. Which Team takes the plunge?

The Bills?  Jets don't have their own Stadium.........Would a team with a New Owner look for a better local Fanbase?  ::)

Jets don't have their own Stadium.........

They are building a stadium as we speak. No way they move after doing that.

The Lions?

The Lions?

You don't think the League is going to keep a team in Detroit out of sympathy for the auto industry? (Doesn't make financial sense to have a team in New Orleans, but Katrina probably saved that).

If you want an objective look at what franchises are worth the least, Forbes publishes a list every year. The bottom quarter in the most recent list looked like this:

25. Arizona Cardinals
26. San Diego Chargers
27. Buffalo Bills
28. Jacksonville Jaguars
29. Atlanta Falcons
30. San Francisco 49ers
31. Oakland Raiders
32. Minnesota Vikings

(Detroit Lions are right outside the bottom quarter)

(source: http://www.forbes.com/lists/2008/30/sportsmoney_nfl08_NFL-Team-Valuations_Value.html )

You could argue that some of these have potential due to a larger population base, but if you look at actual revenue (which includes local merchandising sales), the picture is pretty much exactly the same.

The Lions aren't in great company when you look at debt/value, at 38%, but their not close to the two top debtors, the Giants and the Jets, who have a staggering 55% and 68%. In that respect, their closer to the Dolphins (34%) and a couple other teams with a lot of debt on the books (5 teams score in the 30-40% range).

My personal opinion is that Jacksonville never should have had a franchise in the first place and has clearly demonstrated that they don't deserve to keep it.

^^

I wouldn't have a problem with the Jags moving to LA, and I'm SURE the Orlando area Phins fans would agree.  ;D

But, how would the alignment work? You can't have a Florida team in the AFC West.

Jax/LA would be in the AFC South.  Considering that Indy is also in that division, it makes sense to be the one division where everything is messed up.

I think it'll be Minnesota.  They're pushing for public funding for a new stadium and may move if they don't get it.

I'd put my quarter on the Chargers moving to L.A.,You already have an established team, and ready made fan base ,just shifted northward....

You do have a point there as the Chargers are pushing for a new stadium too.

IMO, this LA thing won't last.  LA had TWO teams in the mid 90's and couldn't support either of them.

LA sucks - they shouldn't be allowed to have a team just because they're LA.  F them.

The article I read said the neighboring towns around the proposed site are against it and are already trying to stop it.  It also said that the deal hinges on an agreement to relocate a team so they don't build a stadium and then not have a team. (gee, where would that have happened?)

The NFL sucks for giving Jacksonville an expansion team instead of Baltimore or St Louis.  Move the Jags, that would be poetic justice, since the Rams moved here because we did not get an expansion team.

INDUSTRY, Calif. (AP) - City Council members in the city of Industry unanimously approved a proposal for a pro football stadium intended to lure a team back to the Los Angeles area.

Thursday's vote helps clear the way for developers of the $800 million venue to begin contacting NFL teams about a possible move to the industrial and warehousing city 15 miles east of Los Angeles.

Officials with developer Majestic Real Estate Co. have said they would begin those discussions about a month after the vote.

Majestic intends to pay for the stadium with private funds and start construction as soon as a team has committed to playing there.

Neighboring cities concerned about traffic and noise have threatened lawsuits to stop the stadium.

It would be poetic justice to all Dolphins fans in Central and North Florida.  They can finally see their team again.

No way Detroit is going anywhere with the money they spent building that new stadium a few years back, the Ford family will never let that happen.I can see the Jags being the logical choice to move, but I agree with Brian, screw them! They won't come out and support a team in la-la land anymore than the fans in North Florida do,and, unlike the Jacksonville area fans,it won't be because they can't afford it.They just have too many other options out there to spend their time and money on,and I can't see why the NFL is so damned determined to put a team in place there.I also think that it sucks for the orginization and the few die hard fans because Jacksonville has put a pretty decent product on the field in the time they've been there.

I know alot of Dolphins Fans that moved North in the 70's after the invasion of Miami  and became Jags fans. Serve all of them right.........not for moving, but it would be a great move to increasing our Fanbase again.  Hell , I would be all for Moving the Phins near Orlando if the Jags skip Town. We could Guarantee a sell out Crowd every week.

That's sacreligious. And, Orlando had a chance to get an NHL expansion team. They had the Tampa Bay Lightning and the Florida Panthers play an expedition game at the Orlando Arena to gauge the intrest. There were less than 2000 people in that arena.

I'm not a Big Hockey fan either. Thats not a Fair gauge of Interest because I wouldn't have gone either.

Raiders and Chargers (two former LA teams that currently want new stadiums) make the most sense.
