Title: WBC question for Maine Post by: Phishfan on March 24, 2009, 12:01:09 pm Since Maine is easily our biggest baseball fane I wanted to put this to him, but anyone else can feel free to give their opinions. I haven't seen any WBC threads which makes me wonder about the importance of this tournament. This board had a pretty good World Cup thread and I know we have less soccer fans here. I am only a casual baseball fan so I have to admit that I didn't watch a single game although I did track the USA's progress. Perception is there is a lack of buzz around this tournament so I wonder if it is a reality and if so, what can be done about it.?

However the WBC is designed to broaden MLB interest world wide and it's done that in spades. The world wide ratings for this event are off the chart. Last night's championship game was one of the ten most watched TV programs of all time in Japan and Korea. Cuba, Mexico, Canada, etc saw veiwer records being broken, to name a few.
The overall goal of the WBC - to broaden interest in MLB as a brand across the world - is working magically.
