NFL Radio is reporting Gonzalez has been traded to Atlanta for a 2010 second round pick, and the Chiefs have confirmed it.

WOW - this is a shocker.

Atlanta just got really good.

Is Tony G what he used to be?  He hasn't been an elite player in a couple of seasons.  Granted, KC has been terrible, but I don't think this is that much of an improvement for ATL.  I think KC got the better deal.

I think it is a fair trade, and mainly for the reasons that Dave mentioned. Atlanta's not getting Gonzo in his prime, they're getting Gonzo on the downhill side of his career. That said, I think he makes a perfect complement to the deep speed threat of Roddy White, and when you combine Gonzo and Turner catching out of the backfield, those are two darned good safety nets for the young talented Matt Ryan.

Wouldn's surprise me if KC is on the better side of a lot of deals.

I know most folks feel the coach of the NEP has made some great deals in trading for Moss and Welker, but we really don't know if that was because the coach of the NEP or the GM of KC.

On a "terrible" KC team without a real QB last season, he managed 1000 ydsm and 10 TDs. I'd say its a nice upgrade for Atlanta (adding him to their arsenal) and giving a young QB a quality veteran TE to throw to. I'm just glad the Chiefs didn't trade him to the Eagles (as was rumored on NFL Radio a few days ago). I would've never heard the end of it from the Eagles fans who would've figured combined with Jason Peters, it puts the Eagles in the Super Bowl.

He was THE ONLY weapon KC had.  Its easy to double a big TE when the WR's can't get open.

Atlanta is a different animal.  They have a strong running game, a good young QB, and at least one, maybe two decent WR's that can stretch the field.  They were missing the big man in the middle, and now they have him.

Good trade for the Dirty Birds.

Good trade for both teams.  Atlanta gets that big man that can catch a pass over the middle and bowl someone over.... and who will also make it impossible to double team Roddy White.

KC continues their rebuilding process.... getting younger and stockpiling draft picks.

By the beginning of preseason, every team on our schedule is going to have a star/game breaker quality WR or TE.  :o
