Patriots release ex-Raven Burgess The Patriots announced on Twitter Monday night that they had released former Ravens linebacker Prescott Burgess, who was acquired last week in a trade with the Ravens. The Ravens were to receive a conditional seventh round draft pick from the Patriots depending on how many games Burgess was active. He was inactive Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons. The Patriots (2-1) host the undefeated Ravens on Sunday at 1 p.m. The Ravens traded Burgess to the Patriots to make room for free-agent tight end Tony Curtis, who was inactive Sunday in the 34-3 win over the Browns. Burgess, picked in the sixth round by the Ravens in 2006 out of Michigan, played a big role on special teams. He was on IR last season with an arm injury. The Patriots, who lost massive defensive tackle Vince Wilfork to an ankle injury against the Falcons, released Burgess to make room for fellow masive (6-foot-7, 335 pounds) defensive tackle Terdell Sands, signed Monday. Sands had 29 tackles and two sacks last season for the Raiders, who released him on Sept. 5. He has played for the Chiefs, Packers and Raiders. |
