Title: Rio gets 2016 Olympics
Post by: Dave Gray on October 02, 2009, 01:27:37 pm
I am actually pretty bummed that Chicago didn't win.  I think it would've been a unique opportunity, because of Obama's attachment to the city, while he was still in office and it would've helped our economy.

Rio is a cool 2nd choice though.  It'll be a party, that's for sure.

This is history in the making.  A South American country has never hosted an Olympic Games until now.

I don't think that it would matter much to the US economy as a whole. It would however be good for Chicago and Illinois in general.

After rethinking this a bit the airline industry would do well nationally because there would probably be quite a few connecting flights and such.

I'm psyched.  I lived in Brazil for a few years, and my wife and her family are all Brazilian.  My kiddo will be 9 then, which will make it a good experience.  I'm thinking I have to find a way to be there in 2016...

^^^ I think the Summer Games will be held later in the year (like Sept - Oct) so it will be spring there.  Wouldn't that make sense?

Chicago is better off. Let Rio deal with the headaches, the security, the media blitz, and the hefty bill that always follows an Olympics.
