Title: ALCS & NLCS talk here! Post by: MaineDolFan on October 13, 2009, 09:24:39 am Alright everyone, what do you have?
Phillies - Dodgers Yankees - Angels Let's talk about what you think will go down in these two series. Hold off on the World Series talk, let's focus on these two rounds only for now... Title: Re: ALCS & NLCS talk here! Post by: YoFuggedaboutit on October 13, 2009, 09:28:13 am I think this is the year the Yankees finally overcome the Angels in the playoffs. The Yankees simply have too much firepower right now for anyone to stop them. Yankees in six.
As for the NLCS, both teams have the tendency to make clutch plays late in the game, so this will come down to whoever makes the most mistakes. This is pretty shaky, but I'm taking the Dodgers in seven. Title: Re: ALCS & NLCS talk here! Post by: SportsChick on October 13, 2009, 10:10:40 am Sign me up for some Thunderstix action. Go Halos.
Title: Re: ALCS & NLCS talk here! Post by: MaineDolFan on October 13, 2009, 02:40:47 pm I'm still debating.
I have a weird feeling the Angles could win. I stand by my statement that the Yankees SHOULD win...but after watching the Angels in action...well, they have a shot. I'm going Yankees in seven. But I will not be shocked if the Angels win it in five. The Dodgers showed me something that I must have missed in the regular season. The bullpen is really the nuts, isn't it? That Sherrill pick up was huge! In this case, however, I am going with the Champions. Especially if Lidge is picking NOW to come around. I say Phillies in six. Title: Re: ALCS & NLCS talk here! Post by: Denver_Bronco on October 14, 2009, 03:09:09 am I believe the Yankees are going with a 3-man rotation in this series. I like the idea of CC for 1,4 & 7. That should give them hopefully two wins. That leaves Burnett and Pettite to come up a 7 inning quality start for 2 games between the games of 2,3,5 & 6 for the additional two wins.
It's imperative that the Yankees take the first 2 games at home. Yankees in 6. Damn, the Phillies are pretty friggen' good. Cliff Lee is pretty friggen' good. Their lineup is pretty friggen' insane. Their bullpen is pretty friggen' unpredictable. I'm sorry, I still don't believe in LA, unless Manny turns into the Incredible Hulk here. I'd like to see LA vs. NY, but I just can't believe that both of them will win here. One of them will gag. Phillies in 5. Yankees vs. my boy Rollins and the Phillies in the Series. Title: Re: ALCS & NLCS talk here! Post by: Thundergod on October 14, 2009, 07:27:23 am Angels - Dodgers. Please God.
Title: Re: ALCS & NLCS talk here! Post by: SCFinfan on October 14, 2009, 07:56:02 am The Angels are going to make the Yankees look foolish. Mark my words.
Dodgers win the WS in 6. Title: Re: ALCS & NLCS talk here! Post by: Denver_Bronco on October 14, 2009, 02:29:06 pm The Angels are going to make the Yankees look foolish. Mark my words. Foolish would be sweeping them in 4, not winning in 6.Dodgers win the WS in 6. Title: Re: ALCS & NLCS talk here! Post by: YoFuggedaboutit on October 14, 2009, 03:24:16 pm Angels - Dodgers. Please God. No. Yankees-Dodgers. That would bring back all the greats from the New York Yankees and Brooklyn Dodgers of the 40's and 50's. Title: Re: ALCS & NLCS talk here! Post by: Sunstroke on October 14, 2009, 04:18:41 pm I'm lighting candles for an Angels-Phillies WS with the Phils winning another title... Title: Re: ALCS & NLCS talk here! Post by: Guru-In-Vegas on October 14, 2009, 04:53:36 pm I'm hoping for an Angels-Phillies WS. I hate the Dodgers... and the Yankees.
Title: Re: ALCS & NLCS talk here! Post by: BigDaddyFin on October 14, 2009, 07:11:19 pm All LA world series, Angels/Dodgers. Gut instinct.
Title: Re: ALCS & NLCS talk here! Post by: TonyB0D on October 15, 2009, 08:32:58 am It better be an all east coast ws. Phillies yanks aka the battle of nj. These late Wes coast playoff games are KILLING me at work - we were there till almost 4am the night the west cost teams clinched
Title: Re: ALCS & NLCS talk here! Post by: YoFuggedaboutit on October 17, 2009, 08:04:45 am If Burnett and Pettite can pitch the way CC pitched last night, this series will be over very quickly. I'm glad to see the Yankees draw first blood, but I'm not getting my hopes up. The past two times we faced the Angels in the playoffs, we won game 1 and lost the series.
Title: Re: ALCS & NLCS talk here! Post by: YoFuggedaboutit on October 18, 2009, 08:19:28 am Wow, just WOW!!!! Game 2 was an epic that will not be forgotten anytime soon. It wasn't so much a pitchers duel as opposed to both teams not being able to take advantage of opportunities, but in the end, the Yankees benefited off the Angels mistakes.
2-0 and heading out to Cali. It's going to be tough out there. Matter of fact I think the series will be back in NY before it's over, but I'll be happy if they can take one game. Title: Re: ALCS & NLCS talk here! Post by: Thundergod on October 18, 2009, 03:31:08 pm Yankees win, on a home run. What a surprise. pffff
Title: Re: ALCS & NLCS talk here! Post by: TonyB0D on October 18, 2009, 06:05:18 pm Yankees win, on a home run. What a surprise. pffff no they didnt, they won when the 2nd baseman threw the ball away Title: Re: ALCS & NLCS talk here! Post by: Thundergod on October 18, 2009, 07:30:53 pm True. True.
Title: Re: ALCS & NLCS talk here! Post by: MaineDolFan on October 19, 2009, 02:23:37 pm Back on 8/24/09 I said:
I think that the Yankees are the best team in baseball...and getting better. I don't think anyone could beat them in a seven game series. The only hope for the Yankees to not win the World Series is someone catching lightning in a bottle in the five game ALDS match ups. Take a look at the Yankees top to bottom. Speed? Check. Not overpowering speed, but they do have some. Average? All kinds of check. Power? Check. Defense? Check. Starting pitching? Check. Bullpen? Check. Bench? Check. I don't see many, if any, holes in the Yankees game. Taking a look at the teams that are reasonable playoff teams...no one matches up well with New York. Texas and Tampa Bay don't have the overall offense to keep up with New York. The pitching is a pretty big drop off as well. CC versus Millwood? I'm taking my chances with CC. Boston? I think the last two series have shown that Boston's offense just doesn't have enough jump to it against New York's top guns. The 14-1 game was kind of a fluke. Boston, talent wise, is not up to par this season with New York. If the Yankees are an A+ team, Boston is an A-. Anaheim is riding a lucky pitching wave right now. They would have the best shot in a five game series, zero in a seven game. Looking in the NL - the Phillies might have the starting rotation that matches up well with New York. Huge difference once you get into the bullpen. I don't think the Yankees can be stopped. I also think they'll win about 103 games before it's all said and done. I think it's funny that I hit the 103 wins on the road...which is nothing more than dumb, pure luck. I'll stand by what I said in the spirit of this post, however: The Yankees can't be beat. The only team with a shred of a chance would be the Phillies. And they have a chance...but it's small. Even if the Angels hadn't beaten themselves in the 13th inning the other night they also did nothing to WIN the game. I fully expect the Angels to win two out of three on the west coast and then the Yankees will end it game six. Say what you will about the way game 2 ended and that the "Yankees didn't win, the Angels lost." I don't agree. The Angels were not able to put away the Yankees and that one error opened the door to the loss. Title: Re: ALCS & NLCS talk here! Post by: Sunstroke on October 19, 2009, 03:49:03 pm The Yankees can't be beat... The only team with a shred of a chance would be the Phillies So...they can't be beat, but the Phillies can possibly beat them. Well, you definitely pad your bet that way, I suppose... ::) Title: Re: ALCS & NLCS talk here! Post by: YoFuggedaboutit on October 19, 2009, 08:38:23 pm ALFREDO ACEVES YOU PIECE OF SHIT!!!! TWO OUTS AND YOU CAN'T FUCKING FINISH!!!! I HOPE THEY BENCH YOUR ASS FOR THE REST OF THE POSTSEASON!!!!!!
Title: Re: ALCS & NLCS talk here! Post by: raptorsfan29 on October 19, 2009, 09:11:11 pm i was kind of wondering why Joe Girardi toke out Robertson when he went 2/3 of the inning not allowing a hit or walk.
Title: Re: ALCS & NLCS talk here! Post by: MaineDolFan on October 20, 2009, 09:01:14 am So...they can't be beat, but the Phillies can possibly beat them. Well, you definitely pad your bet that way, I suppose... ::) I know, Stroke, it's a very hard concept to understand. Two teams in a seven game series. Someone wins, someone loses. The Yankees are, basically, too good to lose. As I said in August - and you didn't seem to notice enough to chirp in then - they are too good to lose. However there is one team that presents enough of a match up issue that could provide enough to upset them. The Yankees will beat the Angels in six. They would beat the Dodgers in 5. They'll probably beat the Phillies in six. That said, the Phillies have the line up and pitching that they could steal a game or two. It is, afterall, baseball. Sometimes those things happen. Clear enough on how I am "hedging my bets?" Title: Re: ALCS & NLCS talk here! Post by: Denver_Bronco on October 20, 2009, 09:31:21 am ALFREDO ACEVES YOU PIECE OF SHIT!!!! TWO OUTS AND YOU CAN'T FUCKING FINISH!!!! I HOPE THEY BENCH YOUR ASS FOR THE REST OF THE POSTSEASON!!!!!! Make a move just to make a move. Gotta be involved, Joe. I know that prolific .211 hitter demanded a pitching change. I completely understand why you would take out the MLB leader in strikeouts per 9 innings for a "different look", as you stated in your press conference. Jackass...... ::) Title: Re: ALCS & NLCS talk here! Post by: Sunstroke on October 20, 2009, 10:12:43 am Clear enough on how I am "hedging my bets?" Yes, I recognized your angle the moment it hit the screen... Your "The Yankees can't be beat" was simply hyperbole used to underscore the fact that you are an AL Elitist swine. That was pretty damned simple to figure out... ;) Viva la Senior Circuit... The fatter the pinstripes, the harder they fall! Title: Re: ALCS & NLCS talk here! (http://enrico.blogs.com/.a/6a00d83451af4b69e20120a600380c970b-pi) Edited to add: MLB had this posted on their website at the top of the 9th inning. I guess they forgot that the Phillies still had an at-bat ;) Title: Re: ALCS & NLCS talk here! Post by: YoFuggedaboutit on October 20, 2009, 11:42:44 pm Man, the Yankees really put it to the Angels tonight. They were PISSED about losing out yesterday. If Joe Numbnutz doesn't make so many moves, this series would be over.
Angels fans can take those Thunderstix and stick them in the Rally Monkey's stink dot for all I care. Title: Re: ALCS & NLCS talk here! Post by: SCFinfan on October 20, 2009, 11:55:23 pm I couldn't believe the whooping the Yanks put on Los Angelitos tonight. Wow.
Please... please... please... get that last win. Do not let this be a lesser 2004. My heart would tear in 2. Title: Re: ALCS & NLCS talk here! Post by: EDGECRUSHER on October 22, 2009, 04:39:06 am How godawful has this umpiring been this postseason? It's almost as if they are tanking on purpose so they can get instant replay. It has been in the Yankees favor almost everytime, but it's still pretty hard to watch.
A-Rod is a beast, this is really the only way he can shut people up. He has to hold the Yankees postseason HR record and he has to win MVP, or at least share it with CC. Title: Re: ALCS & NLCS talk here! Post by: SportsChick on October 22, 2009, 10:37:45 am Go Angels. Please for all things good on this earth.
Title: Re: ALCS & NLCS talk here! Post by: Sunstroke on October 22, 2009, 10:43:55 am Go Angels. Please for all things good on this earth. Angels are toast... It now falls into the Phillies hands to defeat this Great Evil that threatens our world. Title: Re: ALCS & NLCS talk here! Post by: MaineDolFan on October 22, 2009, 11:16:57 am Angels ARE toast. They will put up a fight tonight. Ends in NY in 6.
That said...New York could be SCREWED if this thing goes 7. Joe's decision to pitch CC on 3 days rest could end up biting him in the ass if this goes 7 games. He won't be able to go until game 3 of the WS and possiby only pitch twice. The Phillies, on the other hand, are able to line up their pitching exactly the way they want it. If Angels - NYY goes seven games I REALLY like Phillies chances of winning this thing. Title: Re: ALCS & NLCS talk here! Post by: Brian Fein on October 22, 2009, 12:44:21 pm I am a Phillies fan for the next 2-3 weeks.
I feel dirty saying that.... Title: Re: ALCS & NLCS talk here! Post by: Sunstroke on October 22, 2009, 12:47:36 pm You're sacrificing yourself for the greater good, Brian...nothing is more clean than that. Title: Re: ALCS & NLCS talk here! Post by: MaineDolFan on October 22, 2009, 01:16:31 pm Having to choose between rooting for Philly or New York is like asking if you want your doctor to do a prostate exam with his fist or a plugged in curling iron. No matter what you choose you won't feel like yourself ever again.
Title: Re: ALCS & NLCS talk here! Post by: Sunstroke on October 22, 2009, 01:37:23 pm Having to choose between rooting for Philly or New York is like asking if you want your doctor to do a prostate exam with his fist or a plugged in curling iron. Nah...it's more like choosing to give a pass to a jaywalker, while prosecuting a serial rapist that has a pentagram tattooed on his forehead. Having to choose between Boston and New York would match the fist/curling iron scenario fairly well though. Title: Re: ALCS & NLCS talk here! Title: Re: ALCS & NLCS talk here! Post by: BigDaddyFin on October 22, 2009, 06:51:46 pm barring a pretty substantial collapse by NY it will be the Yankees against the Phillies in the world series. I really wanted to see LA vs. LAAOCCAUSWHPE but that's alright. It'll be just as entertaining.
Title: Re: ALCS & NLCS talk here! Post by: Thundergod on October 23, 2009, 07:28:21 am Not sure whether to throw up or start chanting "the power of christ compels you!" in Latin. LOL! GO PHILLY!!!! WOOOOO!!! Yuck the Fankees! Title: Re: ALCS & NLCS talk here! Post by: MaineDolFan on October 23, 2009, 08:39:06 am Maine? Are you okay? Has the Swine Flu gotten you? No, but Sunstroke's self righteousness has. Viva American League! The crown, one way or the other, needs to come back to the real brand of baseball that people really want to see. Not the JV league that managed to win it in a fluke last year. ;) GO ANGELS! GO YANKEES! GO BLACK ICE ON THE ROAD IN PHILLY! Title: Re: ALCS & NLCS talk here! Post by: MaineDolFan on October 23, 2009, 08:41:28 am Not sure whether to throw up or start chanting "the power of christ compels you!" in Latin. It's your fault. As I shop for an AJ Burnett jersey this afternoon, while wearing my New York Yankees hat that outlines all 26 years that they've won the title...and I hold my Yankees are #1 foam finger under my arm so I can buy a A Rod bobblehead to put on my desk next to my Yankees lamp...just remember one thing: THIS IS ALL YOUR FAULT. Title: Re: ALCS & NLCS talk here! Post by: Sunstroke on October 23, 2009, 09:03:27 am Can't blame that on me...didn't you get the package I sent you with the Jimmy Rollins BP jersey? Post by: MaineDolFan on October 23, 2009, 09:45:09 am I won't need to worry about the Yankees either way...
The Angels are going to storm back and win game six...and then the Yankees will have to toss CC on short rest again...and this bad boy is ova! Go Angels! Title: Re: ALCS & NLCS talk here! Post by: SportsChick on October 23, 2009, 10:01:08 am I've got my rally monkey and thunderstix ready
