Title: Hines Ward Voted Dirtest Player (J.Porter #3) Post by: bsfins on November 04, 2009, 03:17:19 pm According to an SI poll of NFL players....Hines Ward was voted the dirtiest player....
I think it's kind of an intresting poll.... http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/football/nfl/11/04/dirty/index.html?xid=CBSsports (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/football/nfl/11/04/dirty/index.html?xid=CBSsports) I'm surprised more O-lineman aren't on the list..... **Hijack*** I found it linked through CBSsportsline, and didn't see it on SI.... Title: Re: Hines Ward Voted Dirtest Player (J.Porter #3) Post by: Brian Fein on November 04, 2009, 04:32:30 pm Its only because Rodney Harrison is out of the league.
I'm kinda surprised, I never really considered Ward to be "dirty" - maybe its just because of that hit/block he put on that Bengals' DB last season... Title: Re: Hines Ward Voted Dirtest Player (J.Porter #3) Post by: Sunstroke on November 04, 2009, 04:53:31 pm The one last season? How about all the other ones he's blindsided in all of the other seasons? He lights fools up on a regular basis. It's why the phrase "keep your head on a swivel" came out. In full form, the phrase is actually "keep your head on a swivel, or Hines will kill you." No argument at all with this list though...and agree with Brian that the only reason anyone NOT named Harrison is at #1 on the list is because Harrison is gone already. Quote Former Patriots safety Rodney Harrison, who retired last summer, received three votes. LEGENDARY. He's not even in the league and he's still racking up votes. Title: Re: Hines Ward Voted Dirtest Player (J.Porter #3) Post by: ethurst22 on November 04, 2009, 09:47:07 pm I don't think that Porter is a dirty player.
If you read Wednesday's Sun Sentinel and when he's asked about it, I feel he's right. He's on there because he is outspoken. If Porter doesn't make a tackle on runs, notice that he stays away from pileups. That's where most of the hanky panky goes on. Hines Ward? I don't agree either. Imagine if Ricky and Ronnie had a receiver that DB's had to worry about on a running play? They would be breaking loose for more 20+ gains a game! Imagine if Ricky and Ronnie had a receiver that DB's had to worry about on a running play? They would be breaking loose for more 20+ gains a game! Hines Ward gets the votes (and the rep) because he's a receiver. There's nothing special about the hits he puts on defenders, but players have been conditioned to weak-ass receivers who bare block, much less throw a decent hit. This is "reflex"-type knowledge for NFL players and they just cannot seem to adjust to a receiver being a blocking threat during "live action". The result is that they're unprepared for the hit, even though they've seen Ward coming. Of course, as with all hits, you don't always see it coming, but it seems like defenders are a lot more pissed when they're blocked unawares by a receiver than by, say, a running back, tight end or lineman. Title: Re: Hines Ward Voted Dirtest Player (J.Porter #3) Post by: bsmooth on November 05, 2009, 04:19:22 pm He is not dirty, he just has a better than average chance at catching guys not looking due to his being downfield. I remember the first time someone got lit up in freshman football and the coach said "keep you head on a swivel or you are going to get drilled"
