Title: Maybe some of us were wrong?
Post by: ethurst22 on November 22, 2009, 05:22:49 pm
He seemed washed up...

Slower...

Uninterested...

The Chiefs have won 2 games with him in the lineup and he's not running 5 yard pass patterns, he's blowing past defensive backs.

His name?

Chris Chambers.

Hindsight is 20/20 but for some reason, Chambers is a rejuvenated person in K.C.

KC had first shot to sign him and they did but I wonder what Pioli saw? Chambers is working with a young quarterback. Maybe its Dwayne Bowe on the other side but I think Bowe is suspended.

What do you guys think of Chambers resurgence?

1 game and you call that a resurgence?

^^^

Agreed.

The guy was a fraud.  We are better off without him.

We got Henne for him.  What a steal.

1 Game? he's been active for 2 games and has been a factor in the passing game. Have you looked at his stats? Here they are...

Year     Team             G          Rec   Yds   Y/G    Avg    Lng    YAC    1stD   TD
2009   Kansas City   2       6   130   65.0   21.7    54    5.8    4            2

I'm not saying the Dolphins should have picked up his contract but it seems like a change of scenery has done Chambers good so far.

He looked really good today to me. I agree ethurst.

Mostly, but...we never should have dropped him.  He'd definitely be the best receiver on our team today like he was when he was cut.  I tried to pick him up for fantasy football yesterday, but I couldn't cut Ronnie for some reason.

We traded him for Chad Henne.  I'm OK with the trade.

However, I do agree that he looks better now, but maybe its because he's on a talent-less team.  Medium-sized fish in a tiny pond.

^^^ San Diego's current squad has less talent than the 1-15 Miami team that dealt him away?

I'm almost sure you didn't really mean to say that...

He's not in San Diego.

He is now what he was then.  A solid receiver who's not a #1 on most teams (but sure as hell would be here).  I'm glad he's doing well in KC.  He should have a few good games coming up as Bowe is out suspended, I think.

He wasn't cut by Miami, he was traded.

^^^ Brainfart, my bad.

Still...the question might still be valid. KC sucks, but "so did the 1-15 Dolphins."

You're right.  I'm just saying I would have kept him, Henne or no.

No, what I was saying is that KC now has less talent than SD does now.  That's why he was unsuccessful in SD, relegated to the #4 WR on the depth chart, and is blowing up in KC.

I've always liked the guy a lot, even when he did have his disappointing seasons here, which he did, though I'll admit I could've gone either way on us picking him up again or not.  I would've liked to see him in a 'Phins uniform again, for sure, but I think we need to keep developing what we've got at the same time.

That being said, I still like him a lot and hope he continues to do well in KC.  I was sad to see him kinda peter out in San Diego and will always pull for him unless he ends up on one of the other divisional (AFC East) teams.

No doubt...opportunity is definitely a huge part of the stat equation. He was having a hard time sniffing the field in SD, and with Bowe gone, it's either throw it to Chambers or throw it to the beer vendor in section 106.  The receiver (TE actually) that I think will shape up to be pretty solid in KC is Sean Ryan. Such great hands in traffic...he's just screaming to become a quality redzone target.

Maybe it wasn't him in miami but, our talentless quarter backs?

Chambers performed poorly in San Diego in 2007, 2008 and 2009. Do they have a talentless quarterback?

Chambers rarely catches even 50% of the passes thrown his way (41% this year -- 52% in his most recent "good" year, 2008). That compares to "good" receivers who are consistently north of 60%. Try comparing that to a quarterback. There's a HUGE difference between completing 50% and 60% of your passes. Or 70%.

For every spectacular catch he makes, he runs a poor route or messes up the timing with his quarterback. He's done this with EVERY SINGLE QUARTERBACK he's had in the NFL. At some point, you've gotta conclude that Chambers is the problem.

Sure, Chambers had some good years in Miami, but his best years were his early years. 2001 and 2003 were his best, IMHO.
