Title: Wild Card Weekend Prediction Thread Post by: jtex316 on January 07, 2010, 10:46:43 am Predict the winners and scores for this weekend's Wild Card weekend games. Winner gets absolutely nothing but the ability to make an additional thread and say "Hey, look at me, I made lucky predictions on the "Wild Card" thread last week", which will lead to several "you're lucky", the "even a blind squirrel finds a nut", and "::)" replies, which will inevitably lead to Tommy spitting out X beverage all over Y piece of computer equipment.

Jets over the Bengals - 20-9 Cowboys over the Eagles - 34-27 Patsies over the Ravens - 28-24 Packers over the Cards - 38-21 Title: Re: Wild Card Weekend Prediction Thread Post by: jtex316 on January 07, 2010, 01:40:48 pm So you're ALLLLLLLLLLL taking the Packers, huh?
This is just like last year where the Cards were that team that everyone thought would lose. I see them edging out the Packers. Don't count out that Kurt Warner guy. Title: Re: Wild Card Weekend Prediction Thread Post by: Sunstroke on January 07, 2010, 01:42:13 pm Nope...you and Thundergod both took the Cards. You're both going to lose that matchup, but hey...nobody's getting paid for their vision here. ;) Title: Re: Wild Card Weekend Prediction Thread Post by: jtex316 on January 07, 2010, 01:45:03 pm Nope...you and Thundergod both took the Cards. You're both going to lose that matchup, but hey...nobody's getting paid for their vision here. ;) No he's got Packers 38, Cards 31. I'm the only one believing in the magic of Kurt Warner :) Title: Re: Wild Card Weekend Prediction Thread Post by: Sunstroke on January 07, 2010, 01:50:32 pm My bad...smudge on monitor, thought I read the Cards winning 31-30 there. Oops! OK, so you can uniquely be wrong on that one. Feel better? ;) Title: Re: Wild Card Weekend Prediction Thread Post by: jtex316 on January 07, 2010, 02:17:22 pm My bad...smudge on monitor, thought I read the Cards winning 31-30 there. Oops! OK, so you can uniquely be wrong on that one. Feel better? ;) Yes actually I do. I don't trust the Packers. The Cards can pull it off out of thin air like last year. Title: Re: Wild Card Weekend Prediction Thread Post by: AZ Fins Fan 55 on January 07, 2010, 02:25:41 pm Bengals 23 - Jets 17
Eagles 27 - Cowboys 24 Patriots - 35 - Ravens 20 <Homer Pick> I will be at the game and no I am not picking them just so you are not alone JTex lol. I really think the Cards will win this game. Cardinals 31 - Packers 27 Title: Re: Wild Card Weekend Prediction Thread Post by: Tenshot13 on January 07, 2010, 04:01:05 pm Bangles
Eagles Ravens Packers So you're ALLLLLLLLLLL taking the Packers, huh? This is just like last year where the Cards were that team that everyone thought would lose. I see them edging out the Packers. Don't count out that Kurt Warner guy. No Boldin, Rolle is hurt, and someone else in their secondary too (I heard it on the radio, but was only half paying attention :P). That's why I picked Green Bay. Title: Re: Wild Card Weekend Prediction Thread Post by: fyo on January 07, 2010, 04:12:45 pm Philly over Dallas (it's REALLY hard to beat a good team three times in a season) Yeah, and it's REALLY unlikely that you'll flip heads 10 times in a row, but once you've done the first 9, you're still 50/50 for the last one. Title: Re: Wild Card Weekend Prediction Thread Post by: Dave Gray on January 07, 2010, 04:25:37 pm Yeah, and it's REALLY unlikely that you'll flip heads 10 times in a row, but once you've done the first 9, you're still 50/50 for the last one. I don't just mean statistically. I think that by the time you play a third time, it's likely that your opponent will adjust to beat you. Meanwhile, you don't really adjust to beat a team that you've beaten twice. Title: Re: Wild Card Weekend Prediction Thread Post by: StL FinFan on January 07, 2010, 04:32:12 pm Jets
Cowboys Ravens Packers Title: Re: Wild Card Weekend Prediction Thread Post by: TonyB0D on January 07, 2010, 04:59:30 pm Jets (they win HUGE)
Igglez (we all know the cowgirls will collapse against big game mcnabb) Pats Cardz (warner gets knocked out, leinart comes in for game-winning come from behind drive) Title: Re: Wild Card Weekend Prediction Thread Post by: Philly Fin Fan on January 07, 2010, 05:29:25 pm I don't just mean statistically. I think that by the time you play a third time, it's likely that your opponent will adjust to beat you. Meanwhile, you don't really adjust to beat a team that you've beaten twice. The problem is the Eagles don't have long drives, they win on long plays. (And thats been all season long.) And the Cowboys have shut down Desean Jackson in both games, and he's the main "big play threat" on the Eagles. Title: Re: Wild Card Weekend Prediction Thread Post by: fyo on January 07, 2010, 05:52:14 pm I don't just mean statistically. I think that by the time you play a third time, it's likely that your opponent will adjust to beat you. Meanwhile, you don't really adjust to beat a team that you've beaten twice. That's quite an unsubstantiated claim. I don't know that there have been enough cases where teams have met a third time to be able to say either way. If your theory holds water, the probability of team A beating team B a second time should be greater than beating them a third. Personally, I think it's more likely to be the other way around, in that some teams/coaches just seem to have another's "number" (whether do to match-ups or whatever). There's also going to be a home field effect pushing it in "my" direction, since if team A beats team B twice in a season, they are probably going to be hosting that third meeting. Title: Re: Wild Card Weekend Prediction Thread Post by: Dave Gray on January 07, 2010, 05:55:19 pm It's unlikely that teams will meet 3 times in a season to begin with because they have to be from the same division, where one team was swept. It's probably unlikely that a team makes the playoffs, after getting swept by a division rival that also makes the playoffs.
Title: Re: Wild Card Weekend Prediction Thread Post by: Brian Fein on January 07, 2010, 05:59:27 pm Bengals over Jets Dave is completely correct.Philly over Dallas (it's REALLY hard to beat a good team three times in a season) Pats over Ravens Packers over Cards So, I have 2 favorites and 2 dogs. (this is twice in 5 minutes that I've agreed with Dave. I am scared...) Title: Re: Wild Card Weekend Prediction Thread Post by: Philly Fin Fan on January 07, 2010, 06:01:05 pm BTW- most idiotic quote of the playoffs so far comes compliments of the twitter account of the aforementioned Desean Jackson:
Got smashed by them cowboys 2daaaaaay sheeeeesh its all good we gonna sting they ass next week lil buddy "Sting they ass"? Really? Great edu-ma-cation you got at Cal! Title: Re: Wild Card Weekend Prediction Thread Post by: Brian Fein on January 07, 2010, 06:05:45 pm The stat on the third game:
19 times in NFL history has a team met the third time in the playoffs after losing the first two. 12 of those games, the winning team won the third game as well. I heard it on the radio. Title: Re: Wild Card Weekend Prediction Thread Post by: Sunstroke on January 07, 2010, 06:06:15 pm That's quite an unsubstantiated claim. There's also going to be a home field effect pushing it in "my" direction, since if team A beats team B twice in a season, they are probably going to be hosting that third meeting. I'm with fyo on this one...when I see Team A consistently beat Team B, and the wins aren't categorized as "fluke" type wins, then I think it usually means that individual player matchups (and sometimes even coaching matchups) between the two squads are skewed heavily in Team A's favor. Sure, Team B's coaches may find a way to adjust certain sets, play calls (and play call sequences), etc... to minimize those individual player matchup advantages, but those advantages are still there at the base when those two teams face each other. Title: Re: Wild Card Weekend Prediction Thread Post by: AZ Fins Fan 55 on January 07, 2010, 06:29:34 pm Cardz (warner gets knocked out, leinart comes in for game-winning come from behind drive) If Warner goes out for any reason the Cards are sunk. Lineart is the worst excuse for a would be NFL QB I have ever seen. In games where the Cards were winning big they would pull Warner and Matt would come in throw his turnovers and they would have to bring Warner back into the game. His play last week was as horrendous as it has been all season. I think the Lineart experience will come to an abrupt end this off season. Matt Sucks!!!!! Title: Re: Wild Card Weekend Prediction Thread Post by: Pats2006 on January 07, 2010, 06:50:58 pm Jets over Bungles

Anyway, Brian was kind enough to shoot it down ;) (Not saying the Eagles won't win it, but odds don't appear to favor them) Title: Re: Wild Card Weekend Prediction Thread Post by: dolphantom on January 07, 2010, 09:11:50 pm BENGALS ---THE JETS ARE A JOKE. EVEN IF, BY SOME MIRACLE THEY PULL IT OUT, THEY'LL GO NOWHERE IN THE END.
COWBOYS --- I LIKE EM AT HOME. PHILLY IS OVERRATED. ROMO IS DUE. RAVENS --- SMELLING BLOOD NOW THAT WELKER IS GONE. PACKERS --- NO GOOD REASON , OTHER THAN ARIZONA IS TOO UNPREDICTABLE THIS YEAR. Title: Re: Wild Card Weekend Prediction Thread Post by: BigDaddyFin on January 09, 2010, 03:45:21 am Bengals, Baltimore, Dallas, Arizona
Title: Re: Wild Card Weekend Prediction Thread Post by: YoFuggedaboutit on January 09, 2010, 09:42:26 am Bengals 27 Jets 17- Mark "Dirty" Sanchez may be a great NFL QB one day, but not this day. The Bengals defense will key on Thomas Jones and force Sanches to throw and the results will not be pretty. The Bengals rested their starters last week, and got spanked. I'm sure the Jets running up the score like they did will be fresh in the Bengals minds.
Eagles 28 Cowboys 24- I know I'm going against the tide here, especially with the Cowboys having better matchups. It's a well known fact that the Cowboys have a reputation for choking in the playoffs, and this game will be no exception. If the Cowboys lose, Wade Phillips should be let go. Ravens 21 Pats 17- With Wes Welker gone, the Ravens defensive backs can double team Randy Moss while the front seven pins their ears back and goes after Tom Brady. Ray Rice and Willis McGahee will pound New England's defense. Green Bay 41 Arizona 38- In this classic barn burner, Green Bay comes out on top. Their defense is a little bit better, plus Arizona is minus Anquan Boldin. Title: Re: Wild Card Weekend Prediction Thread Post by: MyGodWearsAHoodie on January 09, 2010, 10:08:43 am Cinci -- Santa gave the Jet two gifts, but he is done.
NE - Edelman gets the game ball. Eagles - Romo goes to Mexico without Jessica this year. AZ - Not sure why. Title: Re: Wild Card Weekend Prediction Thread Post by: bsfins on January 09, 2010, 11:36:04 am Jets-Bengals - The Bengals Offense Stinks up the joint,The Same Bengal team that Beat the Lions 23-13,Squeaked by Cleveland 23-20,and 16-7 and Lost to the Raiders..Only scored 23 points against the LIONS..The team that made Brady Quinn look like a real boy!
Eagles -Cowboys - I'm not sure what Romo shows up,It will be a close game...within 7 points Ravens - Patriots -I really don't know,I feel Like Billy boy will have a few things up his sleeve for the Ravens... Packers - Cardinals - I like Green Bay's Defense better,Cardinals Defense one Game looks great, then the next week not so much....If Rodgers can stay off the turf, less then 6 times..I think GB will win this one.... Wow,I Guess I don't have alot of faith in the Home Teams.... :P :-\ Title: Re: Wild Card Weekend Prediction Thread Post by: Rick on January 09, 2010, 12:16:35 pm Cincy- 16 Jets- 9 ... Title: Re: Wild Card Weekend Prediction Thread Post by: BigDaddyFin on January 10, 2010, 11:28:29 pm 3-1. I figured Cincy was a lock at home but I forgot the Marvin Lewis factor.
Division Round: San Diego Indianapolis Arizona Dallas. I'm picking double upset on the NFC side. I think Dallas is just hot enough to go to Minnesota and win. Warner over New Orleans in another high scoring affair. It's just a hunch I've got. Title: Re: Wild Card Weekend Prediction Thread Post by: jtex316 on January 11, 2010, 08:37:26 am I was 3-1 because the Patriots sucked.

Title: Re: Wild Card Weekend Prediction Thread Post by: fyo on January 11, 2010, 02:41:26 pm The Jets got lucky; they faced the Bungals.
Title: Re: Wild Card Weekend Prediction Thread Post by: jtex316 on January 11, 2010, 03:06:38 pm Speak for yourself - I called a wild shootout in favor of the Cardinals! I said 39-38 Cards - both teams exceeded shoot-out expectations going 51-45!
The surprise game has to the Patriots, guys. Could the Ravens have beaten them? Of course. But they got absolutely killed in the 1st quarter. NO one saw that coming in that fashion. Title: Re: Wild Card Weekend Prediction Thread Post by: dolphantom on January 12, 2010, 08:06:33 pm Speak for yourself - I called a wild shootout in favor of the Cardinals! . well, that's why i said "most of us" , and not "all of us" , because the majority ,(not all) were on the fence about this game. ;) u made a good call though. The surprise game has to the Patriots, guys. not to me. i knew the ravens would come out swinging with brady gimping, and welker out. and they did not disappoint. the ravens smelled blood and went for the jugular just like i said. |
