Title: Ochocinco at it again Post by: StL FinFan on January 28, 2010, 04:03:43 pm ::)
Quote APNewsBreak: Ochocinco wants to kick in Pro Bowl AP By JOE KAY, AP Sports Writer Joe Kay, Ap Sports Writer – 34 mins ago CINCINNATI – Chad Ochocinco wants to show a Pro Bowl audience that he can kick it as well as catch it. The Bengals receiver did some kickoffs Thursday during practice for the Pro Bowl in Miami, hoping to convince the coaches that he's capable of going toe-to-toe in the all-star game. Ochocinco told The Associated Press in a phone interview after practice that he's planning to kick field goals during practice on Friday. He's hoping to persuade AFC coaches that he could be more than a just receiver during the game on Sunday. Ochocinco kicked an extra point and had a kickoff during a preseason game for the Bengals this season. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100128/ap_on_sp_fo_ne/fbn_pro_bowl_ochocinco_kicks Dear Attention Whore: There are guys who's job it is to kick the ball. You are not allowed to take their Pro Bowl experience away from them. BTW - You suck. Since no one takes the game seriously anyway, I'd love to see this. If I knew this was going to happen, I might actually watch the game. You may call him an "attention whore", I call him a guy who knows how to get his name out there (without it being in the news for killing someone or beating someone up). Its called marketing yourself. Title: Re: Ochocinco at it again Post by: Phishfan on January 28, 2010, 04:16:06 pm Let him kick, catch, or coach. Hardly anyone cares either way. Let him have some fun.
Title: Re: Ochocinco at it again Post by: Brian Fein on January 28, 2010, 04:32:18 pm I would like to see Linebackers play QB, Safeties playing o-line. I wanna see everyone playing wherever. it will add to the fun.
Title: Re: Ochocinco at it again Post by: MyGodWearsAHoodie on January 28, 2010, 05:04:33 pm I am with Brian.
And let the kicker play WR. Particularly if he played WR in high school or college but was a good enough kicker to be an NFL kicker but not a good enough WR to be an NFL WR. So he can get his one NFL reception. I consider Favre to be an attention whore. Ocho is just good clean fun. Title: Re: Ochocinco at it again Post by: Thundergod on January 28, 2010, 10:52:30 pm I'm with StL. And yes, Chad Johnson is an attention whore too, sugar-coat it however you like.
Title: Re: Ochocinco at it again Post by: Dave Gray on January 28, 2010, 11:09:20 pm I have no problem with Chad drawing attention to himself, so long as it's like this, in a positive way. However, I don't think that he should be doing anything other than playing WR in the Pro Bowl, just because it's disrespectful to the kickers who've done so well during the season.
Title: Re: Ochocinco at it again Post by: MaineDolFan on January 29, 2010, 01:12:13 pm FYI -
The guy did kick an extra point last year in pre season. He kicks a lot in practice, or so the story said. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4412952 Title: Re: Ochocinco at it again Post by: StL FinFan on January 29, 2010, 01:52:14 pm ^ I remember that he did that. I just don't think the Pro Bowl is the arena to do it. Like Dave said, it's disrespectful to the kickers who were picked to play in the game. Unless they are going to let any player play any position that he wants to, I am against this.
Title: Re: Ochocinco at it again Post by: Sunstroke on January 29, 2010, 02:18:32 pm I'm usually all for Ochocinco's showboating...I think it adds a little spice to the game, but this isn't the right thing to be doing. Let the kickers who actually are kickers enjoy their pro bowl experience, just as Ochocinco has enjoyed it. I really don't want to start seeing WR's kicking the ball, or linebackers playing QB, etc... Me thinks the outrage over Ocho wanting to kick in the pro-bowl would not be as intense by some on this board if Nate Kaeding was still the AFC kicker. Title: Re: Ochocinco at it again Post by: Sunstroke on January 29, 2010, 02:31:13 pm Possibly by some, but my position isn't related at all to the NFL affiliation of the kickers involved. Title: Re: Ochocinco at it again Post by: StL FinFan on January 29, 2010, 03:15:48 pm Possibly by some, but my position isn't related at all to the NFL affiliation of the kickers involved. Word. I would feel the same whomever the AFC kicker was. Title: Re: Ochocinco at it again Post by: MyGodWearsAHoodie on January 29, 2010, 03:41:59 pm So it is safe to assume there would be the same level of outrage if Ronnie Brown had been selected to the probowl as a Runningback and suggested he be able to line up at QB once or twice to run the wildcat, because that would take away from the AFC QBs pro-bowl experience. ::)

The majority of teams in the NFL use some form of the Wildcat, snapping the ball directly to RBs and WRs every game. How many NFL teams can you count that use WRs to handle occasional kicking duties? Exactly...zero. The Wildcat is a strategy used to help offense. Ochocinco wanting to kick the ball is a strategy used to help Ochocinco get more face time. ::) Title: Re: Ochocinco at it again Post by: MyGodWearsAHoodie on January 29, 2010, 03:54:03 pm How many NFL teams can you count that use WRs to handle occasional kicking duties? Exactly...zero. You mean other than Miami? Welker kicked a FG and an PAT for you guys when he was a WR for the Dolphins. Ocho did do a kickoff during the preseason for Cinci. I know the QB for NE punted last year. Randy Moss has played on defense. NE has had Vrebal play tightend before he got traded. Players sometimes play different positions. Based on the level of interest from NFL players this year, I don't think playing in the game is the enjoyment part of the Pro Bowl experience. ;) Title: Re: Ochocinco at it again Post by: David Fulcher on January 30, 2010, 02:52:08 pm You mean other than Miami? Welker kicked a FG and an PAT for you guys when he was a WR for the Dolphins. Hoodie, I recall what you're saying, but I don't know that this is the best point, either, because our *real* kicker at the time (I'm wanting to say it was Mare still, but it might have been someone else before Feely by then) was injured or banged up. So, apparently Welker was the next best man for the job since obviously most teams don't carry two kickers into a regular season game unless it's a situation where they have one for kickoffs only and the other one for FG's/XP's. In comparison, if Shane Graham were injured for the Bengals during the course of a game, perhaps they would consider making Chad their kicker for the duration of the game (though at the rate that Wildcard game with the Jets went, maybe they should have considered it even without injury. :D ), but I doubt they'd do it just to humor Chad. I just don't get why people are so upset over this. Its a meaningless game. Its not like he said "I want to compete for the kicking job next summer". As I said before, I'd probably be more likely to actually watch some of the game if I knew this was happening. |
