Title: Should the Dolphins target Antonio Pierce?

Do you guys need a MLB to replace Joey Porter? We just got rid of ours for some reason.

I don't think we should target ANYONE in Free agency....I agreed with Hoodie's post, and thought it said it best....The Longer we stay away from the one player away mentality the better...

ESPECIALLY this year,We have to decide if we want to make a one year run at the superbowl..I'm of the feeling of NO. Most of the Free agents you bring in now,A.) uncapped year you're gonna have to WAY over pay....B.) There's going to be some type of salary cap, after this year....So are you willing to possibly have to rebuild in a shortened 2011 season, or 2012? Are they gonna be worth it a couple of years down the road...Go get young talent in the draft,(going to a point Philly made earlier this year ) Parcells and company have made mistakes, and I think their biggest mistakes have been in free agency....

Hopefully, I can post once, and refer back to this post for the next 5 Should we look at_________Player threads

Porter...middle linebacker? Um...no.

Yes we do need a middle linebacker to replace Channing Crowder...and to support whoever replaces Joey Porter at the outside linebacker position...and that MLB's name is Rolando McCLain. He'll become a Dolphin when Miami hits the draft clock in April.

When all is said and done, I think this team will have room for one solid free agency pickup at linebacker and I think they will act on it.  So that I am clear, I am thinking along the lines of drafting one as well.

Pierce would definately be worth taking a serious look at.

If we can get him relatively cheap, then I'm all for it.  We're obviously not going to be able to draft enough guys to fill every single hole on the defense and offense.  Then draft another ILB to play behind him or Ayodele for one more year.

As shitty as we were defensively last year we really only have a couple of holes to fill, unfortunately they're right up the middle at NT, both ILB spots and safety.

Wow, I hope you're right...

I think expectations are too high on Crowder.  He was brought in to be Zach's eventual replacement, which he never lived up to.  I think he would be better in a role where he is the 2nd MLB in a 3-4 and not the head guy.  If we draft Rolando McClain (I sure as shit hope we do), I think Crowder would fit in nicely as the secondary guy.  I think Ayodele is the one that needs to go.  He has passed the dreaded "30 years old" barrier, while I believe Crowder is only 26, and you get similar production out of the two.

I think the fact that you get similar production from Ayodele and Crowder speaks volumes for Ayodele, since he IS older.  At his age, Crowder should be outperforming Ayodele by leaps and bounds.

I hope we get McClean.  Wow, that would be awesome...

If (when) Miami gets McClain in the draft, I predict he leads "all" rookies in tackles his first season and is one of the top-3 players considered for D-ROY.

Taking into account Crowder played in at least 3 fewer games this season, I would say Crowder's production was a little better than Ayodeles.  But I will give you that the stat lines aren't all that different.  However, one stat that isn't accounted for is how many times Ayodele was beat in pass coverage.  I can't tell you how many times I saw Ayodele get beat for a big reception, but I can tell you it was a hell of alot more than any other linebacker.

This could be misleading if Ayodele was the only LB being asked to cover anyone.

Our run game was also significantly worse when Crowder was out. I think Crowder is solid for the most part but everyone is expecting Thomas. That he is not.

Bill Sheridan was just hired as  LB coach and the scapegoat for the Giants defensive woes. Pierce was one of the giants most vocal about his schemes. In other words Pierce won't be here.

We cannot expect future Dolphins linebackers to be on the same level as Zach and JT.  We were lucky to have them.

No. Leave Pierce alone! Build through the draft!
