Title: I really wanted to.....by the age...... Post by: bsfins on February 23, 2010, 12:05:59 pm I was walking out of the court house a little while ago,the whole way out these 2 women were whining the whole way out of the courthouse....They were kind of going back and forth about how their "life plans had gotten really screwed up....It didn't really hit me till I was riding home in my truck, thinking of how most of my hopes and dreams like that were crushed pretty fast,to the point of just waking up in the morning has become a nice achievable dream...
So let's hear them.... Retire by 40? Compete in the Olympics? Get married? (LMAO! sorry... :-[ ) Can we keep them in the realm of somewhat sanity....Let's avoid the marry Christie Brinkley, direct Heavy meta, our love child is the next Einstein, after the divorce, Pitch the Cubs to winning the World Series.... ;) :D Title: Re: I really wanted to.....by the age...... Post by: Sunstroke on February 23, 2010, 12:53:30 pm I'm sure this may be considered out of the realm of reality by most, but when I was a teenager, I actually wrote a Pulitzer prize acceptance speech that began... "The first time I won this award...," so that should sum up my "failed expectations" fairly well. ;) Title: Re: I really wanted to.....by the age...... Post by: JVides on February 23, 2010, 01:10:20 pm 25.....Air Force pilot flying F-16 Fighting Falcons 35....(my current age) - millionaire (eh, not even remotely close) 40....Grace the cover of Forbes magazine (not bloody likely, given the career choice of tax firm accountant) Title: Re: I really wanted to.....by the age...... Post by: Buddhagirl on February 23, 2010, 01:42:49 pm I've never had a life plan. I roll with the punches. Perhaps that's why I'm not nearly as miserable as most.
Title: Re: I really wanted to.....by the age...... Post by: bsmooth on February 23, 2010, 03:56:30 pm The biggest dream I had was to become a fighter pilot. That dream was crushed in junior high when I had to get glasses.
I have yet to find anything that even remotely came close to the hopes I had when I was a kid and dreamed of sailing through the skies at supersonic speeds. Perhaps that's why I'm not nearly as miserable as most. I see a life plan as setting a goal you want to achieve. If I went through life without a plan, I'd likely still not have a college degree, and definitely not a Master's degree. I am impressed that you can flow to where the current takes you, so to speak, but that would make me miserable, I think, because I'd never feel like I was exercising control over my life. Well, I have loose goals (I want to run Boston), but never have said I want xyz by the time I'm blah blah age, etc.I figure things out as I go. Perhaps that's why it's taken me so long to finish school. (8 classes away.) Where do I see myself in say the next 5 years? I have no idea. Grad school? Living abroad? Married? Not married? Who knows? I don't like the idea of planning out those things. I'd hate to turn down opportunity because it doesn't fit my plan. Title: Re: I really wanted to.....by the age...... Post by: Phishfan on February 23, 2010, 07:03:48 pm I am with Buddha completely. When I was young (I mean too young to really grasp a life plan) I had things I wanted to accomplish. As I matured and aged I realized that "planning" your life was impractical. I have been more of a free spirit once I started college. My initial plan was to be a high school or college level coach but once I realized my personal differences with many school systems I changed gears completely and realized I didn't want to be what I thought I wanted to be and that I would take life as it comes.
Title: Re: I really wanted to.....by the age...... Post by: JVides on February 24, 2010, 10:33:09 am ^^^I admire that, and get it to an extent, but I hope that you make some "by the time I..." goals, or you'll never retire! I think those that are happiest only plan out the necessities (retirement, long-term stability, etc...) and go with the flow on everything else. I'd like to say I fall into that goal, but I never know where to find that midpoint.

I'd like to say I fall into that goal, but I never know where to find that midpoint. The necessities are there loosely.I have every intention of retiring at a specific time and am very much into stability. (I'm a huge saver.) The rest of it will all just fall into place. It's worked out well so far. :) Title: Re: I really wanted to.....by the age...... Post by: Defense54 on February 24, 2010, 06:57:05 pm In the 1980's I really wanted to be a successful muscian. From 81-87' thats all I thought about and did. By 91' reality set in , by 99' I didn't even play in a band anymore. I still own several vintage guitars and attend a Tuesday night blues jam here or there but for the most part I just play bymyself. (left myself wide open there........) Had some good times though in the 80's . Actually opened for Twisted Sister and Anvil in Brooklyn NYC in 82'. Met Metaliica and Guns and roses when they were Bar bands. If you told me in 1986 I was going to be a cop in 2000 I would have laughed in your face and asked for some of what you were smoking.

1) write a complete song (done) 2) paint a complete picture 3) write a complete story I will have to pick up 2 and 3 at some point. |
