If there are 1,696 total players on NFL rosters, then on my list of "Players from other teams that I'd like Miami to sign," T.O. comes in at number 1,697.

You think they won't?  The Pats got Randy Moss to behave.  If they can get T.O. to behave, they just might go all the way next year with that set.

I know Stroke hates him, and he certainly is a risk, but I don't think that T.O. is absolutely off-limits if the situation is right.  He's got skills and he's going to be using them somewhere.

I'll tell you what -- I wouldn't be happy if New England signed him tomorrow.

Therefore, on that hunch alone, I think it's worth looking into.   I think the biggest knock on him would be his damage to Henne's development, but I believe that there's some team that's going to make a diamond out of coal.  ...might as well be us.

Is everyone forgetting the bad blood between him and Parcells?

I'm with you Dave.  I thought the same thing as I read through this thread.  Especially the point you made on New England acquiring him. 

I mean, his "cancer" reputation certainly demands some scrutiny but I'm sure all of it will go out the window when he's torching the Dolphins secondary twice a year. 

Also, imagine what bonafide consistent double coverage on a receiver would do for R&R and Henne.

would age play a factor with Owens, he is one year older than Jason Taylor.

JT takes a hit on every snap.  Most OT's out weigh him by 50lbs as well.  No dobt TO is an asshole of the first order........but he's a stud. And coming from the Tundra of Eastern NY state, he would be estatic to be in Miami. 1 yr contract....load it with incentives. Get a few newbies to learn off him. Can't be any worse then Porter was.

T.O. hasn't been a stud in several years...that part of his game is gone. What remains is the locker room cancer, the distraction and the ability to consistently rank among the leaders in dropped passes.

Please, oh please, let him sign with New England or the Jets.

The analysis of whether TO would be a good addition to the Dolphins needs to be a bit more deep than simply would you be disappointed if he played for the NEP or Jets.

TO is not a long term solution for anybody.  TO is a player that only makes sense to sign to a one or two year deal.  And even if signed to a two year deal figure you might need to cut him after one.  Are the Dolphins in a "win this year mode" or build for the long term with the a plan to challenge the Jets for dominance in the AFCE in a few years when Brady retires or starts to decline.  I say it is the latter for the Dolphins, they ain't winning the SB in 2010.  NEP on the other hand are in and must remain in win it this year mode as long a Tom Brady is the QB.  The Jets with there outstanding defense last year and run game offense, but poor passing offense are litterally a WR away from being a serious contender.

I think the "cancer" factor is overrated.  Players like TO and Moss are only a problem on losing teams.  Could TO cause a team that would have gone 6-10 without him to go 4-12 with him?  Absolutely, but he could also cause a team that would go 11-5 without him to go 13-3.  If he is a cancer, it will because the team is having a bad season, he won't be the reason why the team has a bad season.

QB development.  Could TO's behavior interfer with Chad Henne or Mark Sanchez development as a QB?  Maybe.  Would anything he going to rattle Tom Brady?  NO! 

WR development.  While Edelmen is clearly the heir apparent to Welker, the NEP don't have a long term #1 WR developing to replace Moss.  Bringing in TO to the Dolphins would interfer with Ginn's development as the Dolphins #1 WR. 

TO makes the NEP a better team.  Questionable for the Jets.  Does nothing to help MIA. 

I disagree with this completely. Was SF a losing team before T.O. arrived? Nope...they were 12-4 when he arrived and 12-4 at the peak of his cancer. Was Philly a losing team when T.O. arrived? Nope...they were 12-4 prior to his arrival as well. Was Dallas a losing team? No again...

T.O. has been a cancer on 3 of the four teams he's been on, and all three of those were winning teams when he arrived, and were winning teams when T.O.'s neurochemical time bomb blew up in the clubhouse. One could argue that the only reason he wasn't a cancer on the fourth team, Buffalo, is because he was fighting for his contract life (one year deal) and also understood that no one pays attention to Buffalo anyway.

If Miami passes I won't even give it a second thought......unless he signs with NE or the Jets and winds up burning us for 50-60 yds a game twice a season.  :P

I think he's really motivated to go out on a high note , a long talk with papa Parcells and what they expect along with a incentive ladden contract might just work.

I want him to go to the Jets, just so he can drop 2-3 passes against Miami when we face them...and maybe to blow up the chemistry they have brewing there.

I can't beleve the absolute carziness in this thread. Anyone who would want TO to join the Dolphins obviously hasn't been following his career.

^^^ I wondered the same thing, but figured everyone is entitled to their opinion.  As someone who rabidly cheers for a team that T.O. played for, I'm telling ya that you do NOT want that personality in a locker room, especially one with a large amount of young (and potentially impressionable) players.

T.O. would actually be a good fit on the Vikings. T.O. can try to be a media hog as much as he wants to, but their QB is a legend when it comes to having the spotlight shine on him.

Both Favre and T.O. probably have 1 or 2 years left tops, and the team is built to win right now, not sometime down the road, so it would be a fun offensive team to watch.

Also - for some reason I think that the Minnesota Vikings helmet logo makes it look like the players run faster for some reason. It's very aero-dynamic.

Hey I'm with ya. 100%.  But I'd hate to see him burn us. Our defensive ends were not exactly on fire last season ya know? 

Thats actually a good thought. I'd be all for it actually as long as he doesn't wind up else where in the AFC East. I'd rather have him here and suck , then on the Jets and the Pats where they actually have QB's that can throw unlike Buffalo and the Cowgirls.

I'd drop a dollar that by "early" into next season, our pair of second year corners (Davis & Smith) will be considered one of this team's biggest strengths.

We really need young blue chip beef in the front seven that can put quick and consistent pressure on the passer, because everyone knows that a defensive back's best friend is a dominant pass rush, as it chops time off the opposing QBs pocket clock, which means the D-back has to cover the receiver for shorter periods of time. That allows D-backs to do more things in coverage...take more chances, jump routes, anticipate over the top, etc... because they know that "whatever" is gonna happen, it's gonna happen fast. It takes away the opposing receiver's ability to use multiple moves to develop openings in coverage downfield as well.

If I were to say I had a favorite kind of NFL team to cheer for, it would probably be a squad with a blazing fast attacking ballhawking defense that is smallish on the edges, but beefy up front in the middle...and a west coast passing game on offense. Short outs, short slants, rope-a-dope until BOOM...deep shot downfield.

Sounds like a few 49ers squads I've cheered for in the past anyway... ;D

You ask why Pats not Phins? Pats can keep TO happy. Dolphins can't.

The Bills kept him pretty well muzzled.  I think the Dolphins could too.  With all the talk about the Phins needing a number one receiver,  I thought maybe he would be a short term answer until they can develop one.

Pats, if you think he would poison the Dolphins locker room, then you would want him to sign with them, right? ;)

I think his prima donna ass is tired of the snow and the cold. I think Miami Could offer him ALOT more then NE. South beach life style , open air driving , not some southie bar full of drunks who can't complete a sentence without saying wicked and women ......well, lets just say that Miami has some of the most beautiful in the world.  The Pats had a great run  but are on the way down and Miami is on the way up.

Rapidly diminishing skills and a douchebag personality are not what this team needs to take it to the next level.  When he was in Dallas, he kept knifing his teammates and coaching staff in the back and then going to the media and saying, "I don't know why nobody likes me!"
