I couldn't be happier.

The team filled a huge need, which instantly makes the entire offense better.  It helps the other WR's it opens the field, and gives Henne someone to throw to.

I am a bit cautious, and hope it doesn't turn out to be another David Boston.

I am very happy, as well.

I think that the price is pretty high, but I think that we needed to make a move to solidify a position of need that's been haunting us for a decade.  It could flop, but so could any deal that's made.

I also hope that we keep Ginn for another year.  I think that he may flourish, with a guy like Marshall taking off pressure (from both opposing corners, and from local media.)

i've had a chubby for marshall for a few years now.  just watching him work his magic in the open field brings back memories of the way TO could get YACs in his prime.....very nice!!!  just hope he keeps his head clear and stays healthy.

I think a 2nd for the year was too much. He can be a serious headcase and we are not sure which Marshall we are going to get.

I voted for "Ecstatic," only because there wasn't a "Happier than a baby in a barrel full of nipples" option in the poll.


It wasn't a second for the year, it was two seconds for five years...and those five years are ages 26-30, so we could arguably end up getting his "best" 5 years.

Like I just said in the other thread, considering the success ratio this regime has had with second round picks, it was a great deal.

Ecstatic for me....we needed a big time receiver and we got one.

BTW, how is he the highest paid receiver in NFL history, according to NFL.com?  Didn't Marvin Harrison get like 60 something million from the Colts in 2004?

Or he could become even more prone to tantrums and underachieve. I hope he works out, but I am a little cautious as to the hype until he takes the field for a season and we get to see what our picks bought us.

Marvin's deal was 60 million for 7 years (i think - something like that).  Marshall got 47 for 4 years.  When you divide it out average annual salary, Marshall is the highest paid ever.

Marshall's bad days are behind him. He's out of an organization that hated him, he's back in Florida and he doesn't have Neckbeard throwing at him.

Brandon is home. I seriously doubt Sparano and Parcells would have taken the risk on the guy if they didn't think he is level-headed.

I don't doubt his skill, I doubt his ability to stay motivated with a large bank account in the Miami night life.

I am leaning towards this being 80% successful though.

He is a big target that is fast and can break tackles. He is exactly what the fins needed, a big time play maker who can keep the defense honest. We havent had a major playing making receiver in over 15 years.

Our running game I believe is so much better than our stats show but when you have defenses stacking the box every play it  of course takes away from their game. Just having Marshall on the field means defenses have to think twice.

I feel like a kid who just got the most kick-ass kite ever for Christmas and mom is telling me it is a little too cold to go outside and play with it right now and she is trying to convince me not to get too excited right now but to wait until summer and it will be awesome.

Maybe that analogy was a little better in my head.  ::)

Still, money isn't an issue in an uncapped year. 

The real hard pill for me to swallow is the second next year...I'd be alot more optimistic,if next years pick were somehow conditional.If he plays in less than 9 games this year,get's in any sort of legal trouble (suspended) it's only a 4th.A just in case,some sort of protection. When the season starts and he's catching passes,that feeling might change.

I'm extremely happy (maybe not ecstatic, but up there) with this trade.

The "baggage" worries me exactly NOT AT ALL. His friend got shot and killed -- with the bullet intended for him. Yeah, I can understand him being depressed and wanting out of Denver. And if anyone ever needed a reminder of how your behavior can affect yourself and others... well, I think he's got the point.

As for the cost:

1) Draft picks: I'm fine with it. Sure, we could use those slots to draft solid players... probably... but the odds of getting one of the best players at their respective position is very low. The odds of blowing at least one of the picks on a marginal-at-best player? Pretty good.

2) Money: Deals can be structured any number of ways to make it look good for the player and, especially, the agent. What we got was a 5 year deal at $50 million with about 50% guaranteed. Compare that to the top 10 (in terms of salary) wide receivers in the league:

$10 million a year is on the high side, while the guaranteed percentage is low. In comparison, for example, Fitzgerald got $10 million a year with 80% guaranteed. Calvin Johnson got $9.3 million a year with 51% guaranteed.
