Title: What do you want in the second round?
Post by: Brian Fein on April 23, 2010, 01:04:04 am
With the Dolphins picking #40 overall, 8th on Friday, what do YOU want to see the Dolphins do with that pick?

Guys like Sergio Kindle, Terrance Cody, and Taylor Mays are still on the board.  And with Jimmy Claussen and Colt McCoy likely to be in this early-second-round mix as well, its possible that one of these guys could fall into our lap.

So, who do you want the Fins to pick up tonight?

I'm gonna get shit for this, but I like Brandon Spikes. Channing Crowder is ineffective and Buffalo just got CJ Spiller.  We need more defense.

^^ No shit, IMO.  Spikes is a good choice at that spot.

I also like Spikes a lot.
I wouldn't be terribly upset if we got a great value at QB, like with McCoy.

I think that nose tackle is still a large area of need, as is safety.  So either of those choices would be nice.

Spikes or May would be nice upgrades. How about Brian Price out of UCLA?

Kiper and Scouts Inc are both mocking Kindle to Miami in round 2. Curse their black hearts... I would really prefer Nate Allen, the safety from USF or Kindle's teammate at Texas, DT Lamarr Houston. I would have no problem with Spikes either.

I do think we need to get a nose in the next two picks though...because while this NT class has some depth, it's not an everlasting gobstopper, so we should get one while we can.

Depending on the value of who is available, I think Safety & NT are the spots to look right now.

I am Crazy, I'd love to see us take Golden Tate,or Arelious Benn,possibly even the OT Bruce Campbell...But after I have another Cup of Coffee.I'd be happy with a more need pick as in an OLB,DT,FS

I would be happy with Nate Allen, Brian Price, Cam Thomas, Golden Tate, Arelious Benn, Bruce Campbell (I know why Al Davis didn't draft him now...he was afraid of his boomstick :D), Terrance Cody, Everson Griffen or Daryl Washington.  Please, no Sergio Kindle and please, no Taylor Mays.

Crap!! Nate Allen just got snagged by Philly 3 picks before Miami could get a shot at him. I am completely unamused by this...

I expect them to keep focusing on D, but with Parcells, you never know

Dan the Man selects... Koa Misi, OLB Utah

An LB.  That was a need position.

Well that's it for the fish this round.

I cannot tell you how glad I am that Parcells & Co. apparently have no intention of drafting Sergio Kindle. Koa Misi is a good player...more solid beef for the D!

I completely agree, so happy we passed on kindle and have always thought misi was underrated.

Misi has awesome measurables for a pass rusher, but the injury history has to worry.

The scouting report from ESPN on Koa Misi

http://insider.espn.go.com/nfl/draft/player?id=25892 (http://insider.espn.go.com/nfl/draft/player?id=25892)

The numeric ratings equate to:
1 = Exceptional
2 = Above average
3 = Average
4 = Below average
5 = Marginal

Overall Football Traits

Production 2
2006: First-team all-conference defensive end helped Santa Rosa Junior College to a division title and a bowl invitation. 2007: (13/11) 67 tackles, 8 TFL, 2.5 sacks, 2 PBU, 2 FR. Played DE for the first two games, moving to tackle when injuries struck. 2008: (13/13) 68 tackles, 8. 5 TFL, 3 sacks, 6 PBU, 3 FF, 1 FR. Second-team all-Mountain West. 2009: (12/12) 71 tackles, 9.5 TFL, 5 sacks, 3 FF. First team All-Mountain West.

Height-Weight-Speed 3
Adequate height, weight and top-end speed.

Durability 2
2009: Misses season opener with back injury.

Intangibles 2
Lined up at defensive tackle, defensive end and outside linebacker while at Utah. Father played football for Hawaii. 2007: Academic All-MWC. 2008: Won Utah's defensive Iron Ute award.

Outside Linebacker Specific Traits

Instincts/Recognition 2

Can be a step slow recognizing screens but shows above-average instincts overall. Keeps head up, locks long arms out and locates the ball quickly. Moving from end to outside linebacker should also help him read keys and locate the ball because won't get engulfed by offensive tackles as much. Showed good awareness and positioning in underneath zone coverage at Senior Bowl.

Strength/Toughness 2
Isn't big enough to consistently hold ground against the run if asked to line up at end in the NFL but plays with good leverage and stouter than size suggests. Above-average upper body strength and appears more than capable of setting the edge at the outside linebacker position.

Range vs. Run 3
Takes sound pursuit angles and shows good lateral mobility when scraping down the line of scrimmage but top-end speed and range appear just adequate on film.

Tackling 3
Flashes the ability to deliver the big hit and wraps up when gets hands on the ball carrier but doesn't show great body control or agility in space. Concerned about open field tackling.

3rd Down Capabilities 3
Physical and has shown the ability reroute tight ends at the line of scrimmage on film. Reason to be optimistic about ability to develop serviceable underneath man-to-man cover skills. While listed at 263 pounds on roster weighed 244 pounds at the Senior Bowl and appeared more fluid there than he did on film. Adequate range in zone coverage but doesn't appear fast enough on film to consistently turn and run with NFL tight ends and backs. Greatest strength is rushing the passer. Doesn't have elite closing speed but quicker than fast. Uses hands to prevent tackle from locking on to frame, gets underneath outside shoulder and then bends back inside. Flashes the ability to get under offensive tackle and drive them back into the quarterback's lap. Gets hands up when sees quarterback start throwing motion and times jumps fairly well. Has ample experience rushing out of a two-point stance.

I had my eye on Terrence Cody, NT out of Alabama.  I wonder why the Fins didn't take him?  He seemed like the obvious choice.  The Ravens ended up taking him later in the 2nd round.

We just drafted John Jerry in the third.  OG, 6'5'' 330+....did 31 reps @225lbs....nice pick up.

so basically we just need to address FS ,TE and more rush LB...if Aaron Hernandez is available in the fourth I say draft him.
