Title: Fantasy Football Prep and Strategies
Post by: Dave Gray on August 16, 2010, 04:04:59 pm
I'm pretty grossly unprepared this year for my fantasy leagues.  My first draft is Saturday and I haven't even looked at a player sheet.

What are your strategies and how do you prepare for the FF season?

I try a few different things, but it usually comes down to looking for value and doing my best to ignore superstars for their name only (that becomes difficult).  There are certain positions (like TE or D) where I'll either be super aggressive or I'll wait until very late, depending on how the draft is going.

I used to prepare months in advance, make my own cheat sheets, etc.  It was a bad obsession.

The past 2-3 seasons, I've done the old night before maybe-i-should-look-at-a-depth-chart-or-something preparation.  My fantasy team's record is indicative of this.

I find that my fantasy success is directly proportional to the amount of preparation I do.

However, I have done zero preparation for my first draft, also this Saturday, and likely won't do any until Friday night.  Look for my team to be 5-9 again this season.

I look at some cheat sheets but I also go with my gut feeling.  Sometimes I think a player is ranked to high.  I haven't done that great in FF lately, so maybe I should prep less.

I usually am very laptop heavy, tracking all of the other teams and such.  This year I'm considering going really low-tech...just worrying about my needs and crossing names off of an overall list.
