Let's classy up the place a bit and talk literature.  What's your favorite book and why?  Do you read a lot, a little, or not at all?

I read a lot and my favorite book varies.  I read fantasy, horror, historical fiction and true life books.  One of my favorites, because it combines fantasy and horror is "The Talisman" by Stephen King & Peter Straub.  I can't believe no one ever tried to make a movie out of it, but I am glad because they probably would have destroyed the book.  The only movie that ever did a Stephen King book justice was "Cujo", but I digress. 

Favorite authors including the above mentioned are Frank Herbert (and son Brian), Steven Lawhead,  Orson Scott Card, Arthur C Clarke, and Micheal Crichton.

What is this "book" you speak of?  Is it something I can play on the Xbox?

It is kinda like the internet without hyperlinks and you are forced to read it in a specific order instead of jumping around.

I soooo want a Kindle!

Since it is "book" in singular form, I'll go with the obvious, Stephen King's "The Stand," but if I could expand it to "story," regardless of number of books, I'd keep the same author and go with The Dark Tower.

Isaac Asimov's "Foundation" series is way up there, as is Frank Herbert's "Dune" series and Orson Scott Card's "Ender's Game" series.


I wish someone would give a good attempt at making a movie out of Frank Herbert's Destination Void series, "The Jesus Incident," "The Lazarus Effect" and "The Ascension Factor."  Not sure it could be done, but I'd love to see it anyway.

Many, but "Without Remorse", by Tom Clancy, comes to mind at this late hour.

I do not have a singular book that is my favorite.

"Jumping around" can be accomplished by turning the page and footnotes are hyperlinks without the crap, although the references can be a great deal more cumbersome to follow.

I have a nook and LOVE it. I know that Mrs. Dave has one or the other and really likes it too.

Favorite book all time? There are so many I love to read.  I think that favorites have to be The Great Gatsby and To Kill a Mockingbird.

Favorite book of all time is a One Hundred Years of Solitude. I LOVE the shit out of that book. I also love Jany Eyre.

did you seriously bust out gabriel garcia marquez .. i had to read this book in high school and it was 100 years of boring :( .. at least at the time

grapes of wrath would be my pick .. nothing says favorite than the dust bowl !

I don't read a ton.  ...one book a year, maybe two.

I really enjoy Chuck Palahniuk.  I also read non-fiction sometimes.

But I think that my favorite book is World War Z.  It's not that it's some kind of super meaningful literature, but there's something about that book, the way that it's told, and the bite sized nature of it that makes me love the shit out of it.

Yes. My copy is old and worn out because I've read it a few times.

I enjoy legal thrillers.  I can't place my favorite book of all time, but my two favorite authors are Phillip Margolin and John Grisham. 

Movie rights to Dark Tower just got sold. Looks like Ron Howard will direct the first of three feature films. Some TV stuff also in the works.

I couldn't possibly pick a single favorite, but I recently re-read "Kon-Tiki" and it was even more amazing than when I read it as a teenager. It is the greatest adventure of the 20th century.
