The story on CBS Sportsline says he didn't even make the return flight with the team yesterday.

He has considerably more years than is required not to go to the waiver wire.

If you watched his press conference after the game, it is pretty clear what team his agent is calling first.

All the more reason on what team I am guessing will be his next home.

^^^ Yeah, but do the 49ers really need him? I think we've pretty much got the Super Bowl locked up already.

If the Pats do resign him, this could go down as the greatest trade steal of all times.  Vikings get Moss for three games, Patriots get a third round pick.

Thanks, Vikings, for giving the Patriots a free 3rd round pick for nothing.

Idiots. ::)

Why wouldn't they sign him.  He was traded b/c he wanted to be traded and was unhappy in his limited role as a decoy.  If he is willing to come back and happily play decoy, why not take him back?

I think that there should some sort of rule that says that if a team trades a player away and receive a draft pick in exchange...and then the player gets cut/waived and ends up back on his original team, they should have to give back the draft pick that team originally received for the player.

And if Moss does wind up with the Pats, you will likely see such a rule in the future.  Much like the Chargers as a play off team picking before many non-playoff teams changed the draft order.

From what I'm reading on several sites, after the trading deadline, all players have to go thru the waiver process. A few of the sites have actually referenced Chris Chambers from last year as an example

This is unbelievable. There has got to be much more than this. Brad Childress / Rick Spielman are two incompetents trying to run a team.

He is on waivers for 24 hours.  Buffalo is first in line.  The team that picks him up would have to pay him for 9 games.

^^ NFL Network says very clearly that Minnesota is on the hook for his whole season's contract if he is claimed but he would be a FA at the end of the season.

If he clears waivers, he's free to sign anywhere on their own dime.

I know it is a pipe dream but I think Miami should put a claim on hiim just to keep the Pats from being able to take him. Would be kind of nice to Have Moss on one side and Marshall on the other.

Quote from espn.com:

Moss is available on the waiver wire until Tuesday afternoon. A team can claim him and pick up the final year of a contract that pays him $6.4 million a year. If no one claims him, the Vikings owe him the remaining $3.888 million of his deal and he's available for around $450,000 with Moss picking the team he would like to join.

Is that really a good enough reason to take a guy; to keep another team from taking him?

Title: Re: Randy Moss cut by the Vikings

Is that really a good enough reason to take a guy; to keep another team from taking him?

Particularly if the guy wants to go to said team and has a history of forcing himself out of places he doesn't want to be.

Dolphins get Moss off of waivers. Randy is not used much in the offense and knows that the only reason why the Dolphins claimed him was to prevent him from returning to Tom Brady.

This would not end well for the Dolphins.

Completely disagree.  If one team can be that stupid, they should have to pay the price.  And if one team can be that smart, they should be rewarded.

As Bill Simmons said:

Note to Pats: Sign Moss just so "Pats trade Randy Moss to Minnesota for a 3rd round pick and Randy Moss" can run on ESPN's ticker.

I looked at the Vikings web site once I heard this news and they still have him on the roster and the depth chart and there's not one peep about Moss being cut in the news section.

I started thinking this story might be false, and that the guy from NFL.com that "scooped" the story might have egg on his face by the end of today...

Coincidentally he's the same guy that gave wrong information about the waiver process.  Its in the video in that link.

Randy had not been cut.  That has been confirmed.

Childress told the Vikings players that he has been cut.  That has been confirmed.

Who is running the show in MInn, is unclear.

Randy the per-game breakdown:

Patriots (3 games): 3 receptions, 46.3 yards, 1 TD, one ridiculous post-game rant

Vikings (4 games): 4.3 receptions, 43.5 yards, .5 TD, one ridiculous post-game rant

On a per-game basis, he actually averaged more ridiculous rants with the Patriots.

This is in no way anything but hearsay, but a friend in Minnesota told me the organization is angry with Childress for making the announcement and he may be the one who is going to be leaving.  Stay tuned for more of "As the Vikings Turn".

I can't imagine we'd want a washed up, decent human being as our next wide receiver.  Why would we want a washed up, selfish, crybaby, Jerk?  Besides, we already have one receiver to whom we won't throw a deep ball.  Why do we need another one?

The truth has emerged.....the real reason why Randy Moss was cut from the Vikings....

HE INSULTED THE CATERER.

http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=ms-mossbehavior110210

Thats right.  First he get traded to Minn b/c he insulted Tom Brady's hair cut and then he gets cut from Minn for insulting the lunch menu.

what an a-hole.  I feel bad for the caterer.

I tend to think this is just a smear job.  Like the supposed fight with Brady that Brady say never happened.  The quote, "Said the witness: “It was brutal. The truth is, he deserved to be cut after that."  Just doesn't sound believable.  Almost reads like an Onion piece.

I am not saying Randy is a self-centered Ahole, he absolutely is.  But I am not buying this story.

Not buying that anything like what was described happened, would believe that Randy said something negative about the food and then the story was greatly embellished.

Just like I truly believe that at some point during the season Randy joked with his friend about his hair cut and Tom joked with his friend about needing to shave.  But don't believe that Randy and Tom ever had a fight over hair and beards that led to Patriots trading a HOF WR.

The caterer has confirmed that the events happened as described. His quotes are almost verbatim what the "unidentified player source" said.

Turns out Randy did do what was reported.

But get a load of this....they were in fact serving the absolute lowest quality of beef available.  So it is actually not surprising that a millionaire athlete would be use to a higher quality cut of meat.
