Title: Austin Collie KO
Post by: fyo on November 07, 2010, 05:45:28 pm
Anyone see it? Really bad hit. Not that the defender necessarily went for the helmet-hit, but Collie was teed up by one defender and hit in the side of the helmet by the helmet of another defender.

No real movement on the field, no "wave" on the way out on the board. There was eye movement, but man, that was bad. Really worried for the guy. Would hate to be his family.

And... FUCK Asante Samuel. He was pissed of and dancing around like mad, angry that they got a 15-yard penalty on it. All this no more than a couple of yards from a completely prone Collie. What a classless piece of shit. Fuck you, Samuel.

And fuck the thousands of classless piece of shit Eagles fans.

Probably the most disgusting thing I've seen on TV from fans and players.

Why am I not surprised the Eagles are involved?

I don't think that hit was worthy of a penalty. ...just bad luck.  I hope he is okay.

I don't know the exact wording of the rule, but it's "wussified" enough that the helmet-to-helmet alone is almost certainly enough to be against the letter of the rule.

That's not really my issue with this case, however. My personal feeling is that when you have multiple defenders hitting a player from different sides, you should be held to a higher standard than "single" hits. It's dangerous as hell. (And it isn't without precedent in the rules... cut block, for example, one guy blocking low, one blocking high).

I didn't watch the entire game, but was watching when this happened. I also noticed that there was no thumbs up or wave given. Has anyone heard an update yet? Very scary moment when something like that happens.

Later in the game the commentators said that Bill Polian said Collie was sitting up in the locker room.

I think that the helmet to helmet portion of that hit (presumably what caused the injury) was because Collie was hit and knocked "off-course" of where the 2nd defender was aiming.  He led with his shoulder, it looked like to me.

I absolutely agree that there should be penalties for using the helmet as a weapon, but they are there for a reason -- for accidents like this.  Collie just took an awkward, hard (but legal) hit, in my opinion.
