Title: Taunting Calls
Post by: Philly Fin Fan on November 22, 2010, 03:57:40 pm
Someone had something in the brandon Marshall thread, which i wanted to reply to, but felt it deserved its own thread...

Phish felt that the
I thought everyone's reactions to the last game were a bit overblown (including the taunting penalty given by the ref).

I was texting with Brian about taunting calls yesterday. Its amazing what some refs call and what they let slide. And this has been going on for years. I forget what game I was watching, but a guy made a sack, and afterwards it looked at though he was saluting the QB laying on the ground. Why isn't that taunting?

When JT used to get a sack, and did his little motion where he "drew" a heart with his hands and then "punched it", why isn't that considered taunting?

MY guess is that its for the same reason why highstepping or running backwards or dancing in the end zone isn't taunting.  They let a lot of stuff go when a guy makes a play.

I guess it's only taunting if they do it in the face of the other team?

I think the high stepping is supposed to be a penalty now.

I don't like judgement panalties. Unless a player is in another players face with their celebration, I think it should be fine.

I agree.  Ripping off your helmet after a big play shouldn't be penalized either, unless you do something stupid like smack someone with it.

Doing some sort of celebration dance or gesture on your own or with teammates = ok

Doing it in the face of an opposing team member= not ok
