Really? I honestly didn't see that coming. Makes perfect sense though.

Singletary maybe although I'd much rather see Jack Del Rio or Lovie Smith get the boot at the end of the year.

I don't think that this is a good fire.  Even though I think that the Tebow pick is one of the worst ever, you needed to give McDaniels a chance to execute his plan.

Also, I don't understand firing a guy without having any idea of where to go next.  They are a lost franchise now.

He did execute his plan.

His plan was to run the franchise QB and WR out of town, followed by a 5-17 run and an illegal taping scandal, complete with coverup.

There can be only one response to that:

G T F O

1.75 seasons.

Can you think of a coach that has done more damage in less time?

yeah, trading cutler, marshall, and hillis REALLY got bowlen and the fans pissed.

And it's not really even about the record (although that certainly doesn't help).  Look at Buffalo: they have half as many wins as they did at this point last year, but no one believes that it's Chan Gailey or Buddy Nix's fault.

It's the way McDaniels went about it.  Imagine if, say, Jason Garrett had gotten hired in Green Bay, then proceeded to run Aaron Rodgers and Clay Matthews out of town, followed by a blowout loss to Detroit at home in the midst of a horrible season.

Spygate II was the straw that broke the camel's back.  Interestingly, the Broncos may be able to go after McDaniels' salary, if they want to claim that he was fired with cause.

Not to mention that they got rid of Shanahan because his team kept faltering down the stretch, then they hire this guy and the same stuff keeps happening.  They needed to beat KC to make the playoffs last season, and McDaniels benches Brandon Marshall AND Eddie Royal.

I'm guessing Bowlen said enough is enough.

I'd welcome McDaniels as OC of the Miami Dolphins ;)

I'm with you. Can we start a petition or something?

He is a good OC.  He is not the first nor the last good coordinator that was unable to make the transition from being effective at leading a unit of the team to leading an entire team.

Not sure Brandon Marshall would be all that keen on that.  I'd have to think twice before doing that to him.

I could be wrong, but I thought McDaniels and Marshall got along,. Marshall wanted a change of scenery due to the way death of that Broncos player (can't remember his name) affected him. McDaniels was able to make a mediocre QB like Orton look good sometimes, so I'd love to see what he could do with Henne.

I may be wrong, but IIRC Marshall wanted a change of scenery due to the way McDaniels responded to that players death and his feeling that it was disrespectful.

I'm also pretty sure that Marshall was unhappy with the way that McDaniels ran Cutler (who was Marshall's good buddy; he still has a painting of their first TD, as I recall) out of town.

One of the guy's I know mentioned the Hillis trade was...Hillis plus 2 picks ( I looked up its a 6th in 11,and a conditional pick in 12) for Brady Quinn, then Drafted Tim Tebow...

Sorry off the top of my head I can't remember, didn't they trade up to get Tebow?

I don't think it's fair to condemn McDaniels on the basis of his Denver stint. He did a lot to put himself at a disadvantage; the Broncos had what almost has to be the least experienced coaching staff (I'm assuming he picked them himself). That posed a problem when they fired him and had to elevate someone to HC... Only a single guy had head coaching experience at ANY level (and he was a lowly assistant, so not an obvious choice). In the end, they had to go with a guy who doesn't even have coordinator experience...
