Title: Second greatest choke job ever. Post by: MyGodWearsAHoodie on December 20, 2010, 09:22:31 am Hey Jtex...its 1978 all over again.
I think it is fair to say that the two biggest choke jobs in NFL history are Eagles @ Giants. Title: Re: Second greatest choke job ever. Post by: Landshark on December 20, 2010, 10:43:19 am I watched that 4th quarter and all I can say is HOLY SHIT!!!!!

I predict a punter hits the waiver wire today. Title: Re: Second greatest choke job ever. Post by: CF DolFan on December 20, 2010, 11:09:51 am I haven't looked but I bet Jets fans are reveling in the misery of the Giants and Dolphins right now.
Title: Re: Second greatest choke job ever. Post by: Sunstroke on December 20, 2010, 11:58:21 am That 4th quarter was nothing short of insane... Not just the way the G-men folded like origami on steroids, but for the way that Philly just kept pushing them around. I agree with the person watching for the unemployed punter as well. I swear, I thought Coughlin was going to smack him in the face there on the sideline after he booted that line drive right to DeSean. Title: Re: Second greatest choke job ever. Post by: mecadonzilla on December 20, 2010, 03:56:16 pm Funny, I always thought the greatest choke job ever was by the Pats in Superbowl XLII. Not to start a fight or anything, but when I think of choke, I think of 18-1 first.
Title: Re: Second greatest choke job ever. Post by: MyGodWearsAHoodie on December 20, 2010, 04:23:10 pm Funny, I always thought the greatest choke job ever was by the Pats in Superbowl XLII. Not to start a fight or anything, but when I think of choke, I think of 18-1 first. I guess it depends what you consider a "choke". I don't consider SBIII or SBXLII as chokes. I consider them two biggest upsets, in SB history respectively but not chokes. But neither is the biggest in sports. That was the 1980 Hockey team. The biggest Patriots choke was the AFCCG to the Colts. For me a choke is when one team has an insurmountable lead and then blows it through its own stupidity. An upset is when a better team loses to a weaker team. Monday Night Miracle would also be a choke. If the Bills beat the Patriots this weekend it will be an upset. Patriots never had a significant lead over the Giants that they blew. Or in a sport with a series, like baseball, being up 3-0 and then losing the series 4-3 is a choke. Title: Re: Second greatest choke job ever. Post by: Spider-Dan on December 20, 2010, 09:40:19 pm I am surprised to hear a Patriots fan say that 18-1 was a bigger upset than Patriots over Rams. Is this a case of the tough losses sticking out more than the big wins?

Is this a case of the tough losses sticking out more than the big wins? Rams'01 were a very good team. The Patriots '07 may have been the most dominating team in the history of the NFL. If not it is certainly in the top three -- the only two that may have been more dominating was the '85 Bears and '98 Vikings. Oddly enough of the three teams only one won the SB. The 01 Patriots won their division. The '07 Giants were wild cards. Patriots won 6 more regulars season games than the Giants. Rams only won 3 more regular season games than the Patriots. Patriots over Rams was a huge upset. I would put it in the #3 spot for super bowl upsets. But it doesn't surpass Jets or Giant 07. It certainly was my favorite Super bowl. But I try not let my homerism get in the way of placing it in its proper place in history. Title: Re: Second greatest choke job ever. Meh, I thought the '01 Rams were a better overall team than '98 Vikings. While both '98 MIN and '07 NE put up more points than STL, STL had a far superior run game (#5 overall) to either of those teams (#13 and #11, respectively).I still think the '01 Rams were the best team I've ever personally seen... they just weren't willing to run up the score like NE, which is why they didn't score as many points (and had a much better rushing rank). The Vikings weren't even the best team in the league that year (DEN rattled off 13 straight to start the season). They would have been an underdog to Denver in the SB, and rightfully so. Title: Re: Second greatest choke job ever. Post by: EKnight on December 21, 2010, 01:57:37 pm I predict a punter hits the waiver wire today. Yeah, THAT makes sense. The punter wasn't even on the field for the 3 other TDs the defense gave up. You can't blame the entire loss on him. Who's to say if it went to overtime, D wouldn't have simply run the opening kickoff back anyway? -EKTitle: Re: Second greatest choke job ever. The '89 49ers squad should be in that top-3 somewhere...if not on top of it. Anything else can only be explained as "memory deficiency." Title: Re: Second greatest choke job ever. Post by: Spider-Dan on December 21, 2010, 05:11:46 pm There's also the matter of the only team to finish the season with the #1 ranked offense and the #1 ranked defense.
But let's not split hairs. Title: Re: Second greatest choke job ever. Post by: Thundergod on December 21, 2010, 05:27:47 pm I agree with Hoodie on the '07 Patriots. Super Bowl or not. They play that game 10 times, NE beats 'em 9.
