Title: Sparano has no endorsement but gives one to Henning Post by: hordman on December 20, 2010, 03:01:16 pm http://miamiherald.typepad.com/dolphins_in_depth/ (http://miamiherald.typepad.com/dolphins_in_depth/)
Just got this off of Armando's blog.....LOL Tony Sparano has not seen Dolphins owner Stephen Ross is some time and consequently has not received any assurances he will continue to be the Dolphins head coach in 2011. But, in case you're wondering, he is endorsing offensive coordinator Dan Henning as his guy. Sparano was asked during today's press conference if he has met with Ross recently. “I haven’t visited with him, no, and that’s not my problem right now,” Sparano said. “My problem is to get ready for the Detroit Lions. That’s what I’m charged with.” You haven't seen Ross in awhile?? Really???? that speaks volumes to me. I'm not saying all coaches are on a daily basis with their boss/owner, but you think that you would see them once or twice a week in passing. ross not showing up in the locker room is huge as well. anyone know if he was there after yesterday's game? Poor Tony............Dead Man Walking. Title: Re: Sparano has no endorsement but gives one to Henning Post by: MyGodWearsAHoodie on December 20, 2010, 03:09:12 pm Sounds like a man focused on what he can affect.
If he is spending his time trying to suck up to Ross or get a read on Ross's coaching plans he ought be fired before the season is over. You focus on doing your job and hope it works out. Talking to the owner about next year is the worst plan. And having the owner tell the media they are sticking with a particular coach usually means he will be fired in the next two weeks. I really doubt Bill Belichick has gone to ask Kraft if he will have a job next year and Kraft hasn't held a press conference to announce that BB will be the coach in '11. Granted BB doesn't have any reason to worry. But Sparano NEEDS to act the same way. Title: Re: Sparano has no endorsement but gives one to Henning Post by: Sunstroke on December 20, 2010, 03:13:27 pm It tells me that some people still don't understand an NFL HC's daily schedule (or an NFL owner's, for that matter)...not to mention the inherent subjectivity of the term "a while." This is a nothing story...but makes great fluff if a person is just looking to rag on a coach. ;) Title: Re: Sparano has no endorsement but gives one to Henning Post by: Pappy13 on December 20, 2010, 03:28:18 pm It tells me that some people still don't understand an NFL HC's daily schedule (or an NFL owner's, for that matter) I wasn't talking about the fact that Sparano hasn't talked to the owner, I couldn't care less about that and in fact I'm not surprised about that at all since I think the owner has already started making his list for his next coach so there's no reason to talk to Sparano, I was talking about the fact that he's still endorsing Henning. Now perhaps he's just saying that because he doesn't want to throw Henning under the bus, but he didn't have to be so glowing about it, did he? He could have just said that everyone needed to do a better job like he normally does, which is the truth. He didn't. He said that Henning has been tremendous. Do you believe that? Does anyone? Does Sparano? The scary thing is that Sparano may actually feel that way, that Henning has done a tremendous job and that he'd bring him back next year. Please don't tell me you agree with that?Title: Re: Sparano has no endorsement but gives one to Henning Post by: MyGodWearsAHoodie on December 20, 2010, 03:35:24 pm Now perhaps he's just saying that because he doesn't want to throw Henning under the bus, but he didn't have to be so glowing about it, did he? That usually what you say with two weeks left in the season when you are planning on firing him at the end of the season. Nothing is more of a kiss of death than the endorsement. Nothing is more of a kiss of death than the endorsement. Fair enough. It still makes me ill and you know damn well that if it were the Patriots it would make you ill too. When I was growing up, if you sucked either people came out and said it or they just said nothing. Whomever came up with the idea that we need to praise people before we usher them out the door needs to stand up and take a bow so I can kick him square in the ass.Title: Re: Sparano has no endorsement but gives one to Henning Post by: MyGodWearsAHoodie on December 20, 2010, 03:51:20 pm Fair enough. When BB endorses an incompetent assistant a rival team takes him off our hands and makes the idiot a head coach. Works like a charm. Set the Jets back three years and did some serious damage to Denver, a team that NE struggles with more than any other team in the league. (kinda like your Houston just not quite as bad) Title: Re: Sparano has no endorsement but gives one to Henning Post by: Pappy13 on December 20, 2010, 04:00:33 pm Not at all. (kinda like your Houston just not quite as bad) That's easy to say when your 12-2 and your team has had the success that it's had lately. When the Dolphins were winning every year, a 8-8 season was nothing to worry about, it was simply an aberration. They would get rid of those people that were the problem and everything would be fine. Well it's different now and personally I don't believe your assessment would be so rosy if it were the Patriots who were mired in mediocrity for the past 25 years. It's easy to be gracious when you're the prom queen. It's not quite so easy when you're the one they snicker at when you wear your team's jersey. Title: Re: Sparano has no endorsement but gives one to Henning Post by: badger6 on December 20, 2010, 04:11:54 pm So he's endorsing Henning ? I wonder if he is endorsing Henne ? That would answer a lot.........

I rooted for them for about 25 years while they sucked and the Dolphins & Bills ruled the AFCE. Henning has said he is retiring and Sparano is saying nice things about him. Unless Sparano goes so overboard that Henning pulls a Favre you will get what you want. Seems like every AFCE team wants to fire that has an OC, wants him fired. Jets OC and Bills OC are just as unpopular. Pats don't actually have one. That would answer a lot......... He benched Henne earlier this season for a QB being held together with duct tape. Title: Re: Sparano has no endorsement but gives one to Henning Post by: Pappy13 on December 20, 2010, 04:18:28 pm I rooted for them for about 25 years while they sucked and the Dolphins & Bills ruled the AFCE. So you know what I'm talking about. That's fine Hoodie, you can continue to kick us while we're down, just don't pretend that we should like it.Title: Re: Sparano has no endorsement but gives one to Henning Post by: badger6 on December 20, 2010, 04:38:42 pm He benched Henne earlier this season for a QB being held together with duct tape. I mean currently, as of today. Title: Re: Sparano has no endorsement but gives one to Henning Post by: MikeO on December 20, 2010, 05:53:16 pm Then Sparano will go down with the sinking ship. If he doesn't want to or at least acknowledge that Henning is a problem, then Sparano is cluless or loyal to a fault.
And consider he already fired Pasqualoni and our ST coach, you can throw out the "loyalty" part....and its clear Sparano is just clueless! Time for Tony to go!! He can go be an o-line coach in KC with Weiss, Romeo, and the other Parcells rejects who couldn't make it on their own. Title: Re: Sparano has no endorsement but gives one to Henning Post by: 808phan on December 24, 2010, 07:34:08 am If Sparano doesn't realize that Henning's predictable and conservative playcalling is a problem, then by all means, he's a problem too. The offensive scheme of this team is what's lacking dynamics.
Pack your bags, Tony. Take Dan Henning with you. Title: Re: Sparano has no endorsement but gives one to Henning Post by: Diehard_Dolfan on December 24, 2010, 07:50:11 am He said that Henning has been tremendous. Do you believe that? Does anyone? Please don't tell me you agree with that? yeah that's just scary! To say he's done a "tremendous" job is at best looking clueless... I agree he should have stayed par the course saying that everyone needed to do a better job. Title: Re: Sparano has no endorsement but gives one to Henning Post by: MikeO on December 26, 2010, 06:11:14 pm I can't believe anyone on this board is still on the "KEEP SPARANO" bandwagon after today?
People in that group have to face the reality that SOME of us faced weeks ago. Sparano must be FIRED!! |
